Joy Division: Live and Studio 1978-80 (FLAC)

This boot "Closer to the Unknown" is basically a reissue of Remains. It's got one additional song (Dead Souls track 24) which is said to be from "Pennine Sound Studios, Oldham 3/80", but it's in fact the regular studio version from Cargo October / November 1979
The disc has the words "NON OMNIS MORIAR", which apparently means "Not all of me shall die" in Latin.

Joy Division: Various Source 1979 (VG- Aud) FLAC

OU: Here's another liberated bootleg from Japan. If ever there was one Joy Division I wish I could have attended, it might well be their phenomenal performance at the first Futurama Sci-Fi Festival, held over 2 days in September 1979. This is partly due to the fact that the surviving 'Duncan' recording, while still listenable (certainly in this low-generation copy), is not impeccable due to the poor acoustics of the venue (the recording has a rather hollow/cavernous echo). Anyway, this is as good as it gets, so enjoy. It's certainly a vast improvement over the original vinyl bootleg (which had fades between the tracks). Dead Souls also is cut on the first half of the track
This concert took place exactly one week before the band's unforgettable performance on BBC 2's "Something Else"... Everybody who was ever fortunate enough to see that, knows that this was a band firing on all cylinders at that particular point in time.
As a bonus you get one of several circulating recordings of the concert performed 6 weeks earlier at the Imperial Hotel in Blackpool, around the time Unknown Pleasures was released to an unsuspecting world. Obviously, the band chose to play only three tracks from that LP, along with two brand-new tracks bookending the gig, the forthcoming single and two further gems from their already impressive back-log.

OU: Not much to say. Featured today is a previously-unknown (partial) recording of Joy Division's 28 Sept. 1979 gig at the Factory, Hulme, recorded from the mixing desk and presented in lossless FLAC for your pleasure.
This is the legendary gig where Hooky thumped an audience member with his bass and stormed off the stage - unfortunately, this moment is not captured on this recording.
This gig features the original set of lyrics Ian Curtis wrote for "Colony" and as a whole, is stellar sounding. Note that for whatever reason the mixing itself changes from wide stereo to mostly mono (but with effects spread across the stereo soundstage) about halfway through the tape, perhaps the mixing desk guy was having problems with the mix? Who knows but it isn't really noticeable except in headphones, and even then doesn't detract from the gig whatsoever.
Presented warts and all (several slight dropouts here and there, likely due to tape age and/or poor quality tape used in 1979 in the mixing desk), enjoy!
Please note that track 1, the soundcheck track, is not a mixing desk recording, but the gig itself is. Don't let Track 1 fool you....
