Chicago: Paris 1973 (FM) FLAC

chicago1973vi
Palais des Sports, Porte de Versailles
Paris, France
Sept. 16, 1973
Paris Radio Broadcast

TheCommish notes: Here's a nice FM show of Chicago back in '73. Thanks to fellow DIME member michaelmee for sharing this one back in March 2006.
In michaelmee's torrent, "Something In This City Changes People" and "Hollywood" were included in the same track. For this torrent, I decoded the original FLAC via TLH, split the track using CD Wave, and then re-coded the two new WAV files to FLAC via TLH (SB-aligned). I then renamed the FLAC files so that they match the setlist below.
But aside from renaming the FLAC files, I did not make any alterations to the original FLAC files (except for former track 03, which is now tracks 03 and 04).
This one was requested by mimaal2. Enjoy!

OU: I received this in a trade with a fellow music collector last summer. The sound on this is great, even for 1970. Unfortunately "Anywhere Like Heaven" is cut. There are only a few seconds of the song included here. That is how I received it. Also, the tracks don't completely line up with the artwork, but they are all present. Enjoy.

Qween: London 1979 (Ex- Aud) FLAC

Complete Kampuchea Concert (front)
Complete Kampuchea Concert
Live in London, UK, at Hammersmith Odeon, December 26, 1979
Label: Gypsy Eye 137/138
Material from this show has also been released on the bootleg "Crazy Tour". It is, however, incomplete and the sound quality is inferior to this one.
Audio Source: Audience recording
Sound quality: EX - EX+ for an audience recording.

True lossless files (ripped in burst mode, but that does not affect quality unless there were ripping errors - I have spotted nothing sounding like that in the files). The tracks are expertly mastered, with nicely balanced frequency/amplitude ranges. Quite audible crowd presence that enhances the live feeling without interfering with the clear sound of music.

Reviews by Collectors music reviews: The Khmer Rouge regime in Cambodia from 1975 to 1979 represents one of the most extreme case of social engineering and genocide in the twentieth century. The communist rule initiated a program by which all were forced to work in labor camps for twelve hours a day and the wholesale execution of professionals, intellectuals, and non-ethnic Cambodians. During this time the extent of genocide in the killing fields was hard to know since they forbid outside intervention. Vietnam captured Phnom Penh on January 7th, 1979, the Khmer Rouge were forced out of power and it is estimated between 1.4 million and 2.2 million were killed over the four years.
It is in this context that Secretary General of the U.N. Kurt Waldheim asked Paul McCartney for a concert to raise funds. He agreed and three shows were scheduled at the end of Wings’ Back To The Egg tour. Queen were touring the UK on the Crazy tour which was a payback tour for ignoring their homeland on the Jazz tour, and also for their number two single “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” Queen were scheduled to play six shows at the end of the tour in London, each in a different venue: Lyceum Ballroom, Rainbow Theatre, Purley Tiffany’s, Tottenham Mayfair, Lewisham Odeon, and Alexandra Palace (seven months before it caught fire).
The band agreed to tack one more show onto the schedule for the event, playing in the Hammersmith Odeon on Boxing Day. They were the only act to play on a bill alone and did not participate in the Rochestra ending with McCartney on December 29th. Each of the four shows were both filmed and professionally recorded. The film Concert For Kampuchea released in August 1980 with two Queen tracks, “Now I’m Here” and “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” In April an LP was released Concerts for the People of Kampuchea which has only one Queen song, “Now I’m Here.” More footage was used for the German TV special but unfortunately the entire show hasn’t surfaced from these sources and have been out of print for twenty-five years.
Crazy Tour In London was released on LP in 1980. This is missing ”Keep Yourself Alive,” the guitar solo, and the “Brighton Rock” reprise. “Silent Night,” played during the guitar solo, is placed at the beginning of the show. This show can also be found on the vinyl Crazy Duck in 1984 which utilizes the television soundtrack. In 1999 Crazy Tour In London was pressed onto silver disc from a vinyl copy and was released complete with cardboard sleeve duplicating the original artwork. Since it was copied from vinyl, this has the same defects as the original vinyl. Complete Kampuchea Concert was released by Gypsy Eye in 2000. They use the same audience recording but a copy that sounds closer to the master tape. It is much more clearer and all of the songs are in their proper sequence. There are small cuts after ”Save Me” and ”Brighton Rock” (at least), but there are no cuts in the music and
this is virtually the complete show.
Given the level of playing, Freddie’s impeccable voice, and the meaning behind the show, Queen’s final concert of the 70’s stands as not only the greatest of their career but among the best ever. Whatever doubts the band may have had after Jazz were dispelled by the success of the latest single “Crazy Little Thing Called Love,” and this confidence would be carried into their next album The Game. To have such a sublime performance in an excellent sounding tape is a tremendous blessing to collectors.
The set list is based upon the previous tour. The tape picks up with the opening electronic tone rising in pitch and with the thunder cracks the band hits the stage with a the cover tune “Jailhouse Rock,” their old encore which was added to the opening salvo after the first week. “How are you rock and rollers? Are you having a good Christmas? You feel crazy? Okay let’s do some more” Freddie greets the audience before “Let Me Entertain You.” This is a song destined to be a great opener but curiously was only played in the second in it’s short life span.
After “Somebody To Love” Freddie prattles on saying, “I know this feels like a Cecil B. DeMille production of the Ten Commandments tonight but don’t worry about the cameramen. Right now we’d like to do a song…my god it’s quiet in here. Is it always like this at Hammersmith? Are you supposed to be a sophisticated crowd?” The audience responds and cheers loudly before going into “If You Can’t Beat Them.” The early medley was changed from the previous tour. “Mustapha” made small cameos but on the Crazy tour is sung complete for the first time and “Bicycle Race” is dropped, never to appear live again.
“For those of you who don’t know, this night brings us to the end of the tour. I don’t care. We’re gonna be here all the time, don’t worry about it” Freddie says before their latest single “Save Me.” Two songs, “Don’t Stop Me Now” and “Spread Your Wings” make their last live appearance and the latter is among the best versions ever of the song. Brian May speaks about the point of the show afterwards saying, “As you may know this is a special night for charity for the people of Kampuchea.” The acoustic set is limited to only two songs. “Keep Yourself Alive” is expanded to include not only a drum solo, but May’s guitar solo including “Silent Night” for the Christmas season. They don’t return to the song but instead end with the closing verse of “Brighton Rock” in a nice surprise.
“Crazy Little Thing Called Love” was their hit single and is received so ecstatically that the audience continue singing the chorus even after the song is over. The band play along and accompany the singing mob before moving right into “Bohemian Rhapsody.” “Sheer Heart Attack” is the first encore and the audience applaud loudly when Freddie throws over the amplifier stack and the show ends with “We Will Rock You” (sung from the shoulders of Superman) and “We Are The Champions.” Complete Kampuchea Concert is one of the most important releases on the Gypsy Eye label since it is the only silver release of this great showin the proper sequence. It is a show that contains a sizzling performance in a excellent recording and is highly recommended.

Bruce Springsteen: Passaic 1978 (Master Soundboard Reels) FLAC

Douceur de Vivre
Capitol Theatre
Passaic, NJ
September 20, 1978
JEMS Archive

2011 transfer: 1/2-track, 15 IPS master soundboard reels > azimuth-adjusted playback on professional reel to reel > 24/96 capture > Wavelab 5.0 edit and mastering > FLAC
24/96 HI-RES EDITION

04 Darkness on the Edge of Town
05 Independence Day
06 The Promised Land
07 Prove It All Night
08 It's My Life

10 Jungleland
11 Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town
12 Fire

17 Incident on 57th Street
18 Rosalita
19 Born to Run
20 Tenth Avenue Freeze-out (small patch at start from video soundtrack)
21 Detroit Medley
22 Twish and Shout (small patch at end from video soundtrack)

JEMS could not be more thrilled to release this significant upgrade of the second show at the Capitol Theatre, one night removed from the historic radio broadcast that would go on to become one of, if not the most bootlegged recordings in Springsteen history, Piece De Resistance. In homage to that bootleg classic, we've titled the upgraded second night Douceur de Vivre, which translates to "the sweetness of life."
And how sweet this set is, with a looser vibe than that of its predecessor and a few key set-list changes, including "It's My Life," the first "Santa Claus" since December 1975 and the rare-but-always-welcome coupling of "Incident on 57th Street" directly into "Rosalita."
We're fortunate to have many excellent recordings from Springsteen's greatest tour, among them the five radio broadcasts (now including the upgraded Atlanta pre-FM JEMS released last year) and numerous other soundboard tapes such as those from Portland (June 24) and Charleston, WV (August 4). What makes Douceur de Vivre so special is that it, like the radio broadcast the night before, was professionally recorded on reel to reel by a mobile recording truck outside the theatre.
What we get is a live-as-it-happened recording of incredible clarity: If you ever wanted to learn the individual parts each band member is playing, this is the tape for you. Which isn't to say that it is a multi-track, mixdown recording; this is a raw, mixed-on-the-fly, wide stereo recording done on 1/2 track at 15 inches per second. Compared to the cassette sources circulating of other raw board tapes from this tour, the quality here should be a revelation.
The transfer was handled as JEMS did for last year's upgrade of The Ties That Bind so I'll quote those notes: "There was baking involved, as the tapes had degraded in the [33 years that had passed]. This time, the reel-to-reel tape deck was best of breed, what the pros use, in a proper studio, calibrated and adjusted in every way for optimal playback and capture at 24/96 using the best possible sound card, cabling, etc."
There are two missing pieces on the new reels, at the start of "Tenth Avenue Freeze-out" and the end of "Twist and Shout." We've patched those from the video soundtrack. On the bright side, "Thunder Road," "Jungleland" and "Incident on 57th Street" are all complete here unlike the circulating board tape.
The release of Douceur de Vivre is sure to coincide with the announcement of new 2012 tour dates, and once those dates begin, collector focus move to new recordings, so we wanted to get this out ahead of time. Now if only there were an upgraded video source to go with this audio…
Please respect our wishes and DO NOT post this on DIME. Please respect our wishes and DO NOT REMASTER OR POST ANY NEW versions of this recording. - Wayne Darlington

Renaissance: Hempstead 1975 (VG- Aud) FLAC

The Lostbrook Tape Series - Volume 110
RENAISSANCE 1975-11-21-ins-fr
For our final Renaissance release of the series, we present my first Renaissance capture. Since this was my third overall attempt at recording, I made a few rookie mistakes. I only brought one 90-minute tape with me and consequently missed the
final eight minutes of "Ashes Are Burning." I also wanted to keep my hands free and hadn't yet discovered that I needed to hold the recorder as high as possible. There are a few muffled moments when I kept the recorder flat on my lap and may have
accidentally covered the mic with my coat. At one point, I even put the recorder on the floor. When I listen to this tape and hear the seat creak, it says to me, "You idiot! You idiot!" All things considered, it's a decent capture of a 1975 Renaissance concert with a beautiful, complete "Scheherazade."

A this and that production. recorded, digitized and posted by glasnostrd19. Do not sell this recording. Share freely, losslessly and gaplessly.

OU comments: this is from the tour of "the great escape" (4th blur album) blur has a live album recorded on Nov. 8, 1995 at Budokan in Japan, which featured alot of the same songs heard in this show.
that was blur's only official live recording until they released live at Hyde Park (U.K.) from July 2nd and 3rd 2009 reunion shows. none of this concert is officially available.
there are some signs of aging (dropouts) in the tape which is rather annoying since this reel was almost never played, but it was all recorded on one side of a reel so there are no interruptions for tape flips or anything else.
this is the whole show including radio announcer intro and outro. I think there may have been a couple of horn players in here too, but not sure who. Avalon was pretty big for a club, but pretty small for a blur venue considering how popular this band was already at this time. there are a few blemishes and blurs (appropriate, I suppose here) in this recording but most of it remains pretty enjoyable. I'd probably give it a "VG FM sound rating. this all comes from an uninterrupted master recording, started just before the stage intro and not turned off until after the final encore and radio announcer commentary. (no commercial breaks in the broadcast either)

online reviews:
- While The Establishment Burns - Sharper, more detailed sound for Dublin than anything out previously; a much more straightforward performance with Dylan completely focused on each tune immediately upon completing the one before. The "Rolling Stone" from Edinburgh may be the highlight of the set, 8 minutes of rock and roll heaven. Dylan's phrasing is sublime and his furious vocals are something to behold.

- A Nightly Ritual - The Liverpool electric set is stunning stuff, dominated by Dylan's bold vocals and Robbie Robertson's razor-edge guitar fills. Sheffield is an absolutely gorgeous recording, so full and richly toned it will leave you stunned. Dylan's performance goes from ridiculously phenomenal to sublime; he nails every tune and his harp playing is brilliant. A brilliant performance in astounding sound quality.

Duran Duran: Los Angeles 1982 (VG Aud) FLAC

b23f1dbad07cce500686f7f38d7
Greek Theater, Los Angeles, California, 27th July, 1982
Lineage: CD-R obtained in trade years ago, verified lossless via Spectro.

Sound: Very good audience.
Comments: There are a few people near the recording device who talk a bit too much. Unfortunately you can hear everything they say. Other than that, the overall audio quality of the music/vocals is quite good.

Release notes: 14 years after the first release of this show, Audionics delivers a slightly more complete version of Elvis Presley's San Francisco November 28th, 1976 show, as taken from the mixing desk. Elvis first played San Francisco on October 26th, 1957, two shows on one day, near the very end of his final fifties tour. He would not return to the legendary "City by the Bay" until almost exactly 13 years later, on November 13th, 1970, at the legendary Cow Palace.
Presley made his final two appearances in the same building on November 28 and 29, 1976. Unlike most tour shows earlier in the year, Elvis was in fine form, and the shows were well received by the San Francisco crowd.
For the SAN FRANCISCO BAY BLUES reissue, Audionics worked directly with a first generation, DAT copy of the original soundboard tape and made some improvements to the audio. It was a painstaking process of repairing and enhancing the original binaural recording, and then the sound was mixed down to genuine stereo.
Originally, the left channel consisted of all vocals and nearly all the instruments, while the right channel featured only piano (Tony Brown) and rhythm guitar (John Wilkinson). To give the listener an idea of how this sounded, four digitally-restored, binaural bonus tracks are included. Unfortunately, the original tape ends during "Hound Dog" (previously unreleased), missing the show's closing tracks "Hawaiian Wedding Song", "Blue Christmas", "That's All Right" and "Can't Help Falling In Love".
SAN FRANCISCO BAY BLUES is presented in a neat-looking digipack filled with photographs taken during the November 28th Cow Palace concert. Here's your chance to listen to SAN FRANCISCO BAY BLUES - for the first time as complete as originally recorded.

OU Notes: First show of the new tour. One hell of a show with a nice mix of new songs, the usuals and a few surprises. I recorded from Ed's side of the stage. Section 104 row EE. It's the last row of the section, but that didn't stop people from congregating in the walkway behind me. It's a solid recording overall with only a little crowd noise at a few spots.
TAPERS BEWARE: I was expecting them to come on at 9:00, and they hit the stage a few minutes early with the house lights still on and without warning. I was already rolling, so nothing was missed. Enjoy!

Elvis Presley: Shreveport 1975 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

cd
Shreveport '75
Label: Touchdown Productions
Type: Live Audience Recording
Location: Shreveport, Louisiana
Date: 7 June 1977 AS
Release Date: 2011

Promotional note from Touchdown Productions: Promotion note: TOUCHDOWN Productions proudly presents their next release, which will be the afternoon show from Shreveport, Louisiana on June 7, 1975. The King delivered a very good show with lots of highlights. The sound is of very good quality for this kind of recordings.

Comment from elvisoncd.com: A very good show from a very good tour. Elvis delivered a fine performance and he really enjoyed his time on stage. The crowd went crazy and a little move from his finger made the walls tremble. However, the show wasn`t recorded in its entirety here: American Trilogy and Let Me Be There are missing after How Great Thou Art. The little cut there indicates this fact. A complete tape does exist. (Ciscoking)

Charlie Parker: Kansas City 1951 (Vinyl Rip) FLAC

together With Woody Herman And The 3rd Herd
Unt
Mega-rare restored vinyl "Bird With The Herd 1951" - Municipal Arena, Kansas City, Missouri 1951-07-22 - speed-corrected and rejoined - A classic, one-time pairing!

During the very early 1970's, the record chain Sam Goody distributed many jazz bootleg releases under their own Alamac label. For this, and for getting someone at a printing plant to make unlicensed extra copies of commercial releases, Steely Dan among them), Sam Goody was busted and nearly closed. The bust didn't help much as they went out of business a couple of years later. (A footnote: someone bought the rights to the name, and did reopen the chain sometime later, but that was a different operation).
Alamac Records product was a plain-white record label with bad printing, with no company name or address on it. The record jackets were plain text on the back, with a single-color front cover (green, brown, etc). The cover could just be text also, or it might have a photo of the artist. The material consisted mostly of privately-made air checks and of radio transcriptions. It's believed the material in this torrent is an air check.
According the the great jazz-research site jazzdisco.org, this is the only release of this material and no known commercial labels have reissued this show. According to Philwoods.com, the record label Alamac is counted as a bootleg.

Personnel:
Roy Caton, Don Fagerquist, Johnny Macombe, Doug Mettome (tp) Jerry Dorn, Urbie Green, Fred Lewis (tb) Charlie Parker (as) Woody Herman (as, cl, cond) Dick Hafer, Bill Perkins, Kenny Pinson (ts) Sam Staff (bars) Dave McKenna (p) Lawrence "Red" Wooten (b) Sonny Igoe (d)

Setlist (run time 30 mins):
You Go To My Head
Leo The Lion, I
Cuban Holiday
The Nearness Of You
Lemon Drop
The Goof And I
Laura
Four Brothers
Leo The Lion, II

Notes from the record back cover:
A historic summit meeting of jazz took place on a scorching summer afternoon in Kansas City when Charlie Parker jined Woody Herman's Third Herd in a series of blazing solos against the background of some of the best Herman repertoire of that period.
Herman's great band serves really as a backdrop for the unique Parker talent and only brief spots by the leader on clarinet, and by Urbie Green on Laura, and Bill Perkins and Dick Hafer on Leo The Lion indicate the many fine talented musicians Herman had in this particular edition of the many Herds he fronted over the years.

Dave Matthews: Two FM Shows 2001 (FLAC)

solo
Dave-Matthews_009
WHFS 99.1
Catonsville, MD
March 12, 2001

The lineage is from FM to hard drive. A medium-sized set from Dave, with a lot of conversation. He plays:
The Space Between
What You Are
Every Day
Grace Is Gone

+++
KMTT broadcast, Tacoma WA
March 19, 2001

01 talk
02 Angel
03 talk
04 Every Day
05 talk
06 The Space Between
07 talk
08 Grace Is Gone
09 talk
10 B-52's Impression To I Did It
11 talk
12 Bartender
13 What You Are

Dave did several radio visits on this day, and here's one of the longer visits. The lineage is from FM to D-8. Very good sound. Dave plays the baritone acoustic guitar, along with the regular guitar. For one thing, the baritone acoustic guitar is an expensive rarity.

Pink Floyd: Hampshire 1969 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

266
University of Southampton, Hampshire, England
May 9th 1969

Sound Quality: VG+
Source: Audience
Generation: Master Reel > DAT (48Khz) > WAVE (48Khz)

The owner of the master reels (Lord Snooty) kindly ran off a 48Khz DAT of this and the Leeds 1970 recordings for the specific purpose of sharing the closest source to the master tapes as possible. The DAT was played back on a Tascam A60 MKII DAT deck and digitally fed into ProTools to create these 48Khz/16 bit wave files. For the "purists" out there, these files are currently being presented as raw, untouched audio files, warts and all. MOB will be working on a remastered audio CD version (44.1Khz) calculating speed correction, balancing levels, eliminating digital pops, applying subtle and tasteful EQ (but NO noise reduction) for HARVESTED. We will share this in the near future, as soon as MOB's done, so PLEASE DO NOT REMASTER AND REPOST! And PLEASE DO NOT POST THIS ON DIME as I'd like to do so as soon as we get enough seeders here 1st.

1. Astronomy Domine
2. Careful With That Axe, Eugene
3. Interstellar Overdrive
4. The Beginning / Beset By Creatures Of The Deep
5. A Saucerful Of Secrets

Enjoy! And thanks again to Lord Snooty!!! RonToon
