REO Speedwagon: Long Beach 1974 (FM) FLAC

Portada-3
November 11, 1974
Don Kirshner's Rock Concert (SBD Audio only)
Long Beach Auditorium, Long Beach, California, U.S.A.
First known broadcast December 6, 1974

Mike Murphy - lead vocals, guitar
Gary Richrath - lead guitar
Neal Doughty - keyboards
Alan Gratzer - drums
Gregg Philbin - bass

Taper: Unknown
Taping Gear: Unknown
Lineage: Sony PR-150 trade reel @ 3 3/4 IPS> Akai GX-220D playback> TASCAM CDRW-700> Trade CD-R> (wav) EAC (secure mode)> (flac) Trader's Little Helper level 6 (align on sector boundaries)
Quality: vg- (PLEASE READ DESCRIPTION BELOW)
Length: 21:21 minutes

01. Down By The Dam
02. Son Of A Poor Man
03. Lost In A Dream
04. Do Your Best

Here's REO Speedwagon, when they were still a decent hard rock band, before they
got into all the sappy power ballads. It's a shame that nearly all of the Don Kirshner video footage is rotting away at a film library. Very little of it has ever been officially released. Understand that TV sound back when this show was broadcast was hardly high fidelity, but it was at least respectable, and worth having. The biggest shortfall in sound was the high end. As a fellow DIMER so aptly pointed out, TV sound only went to around +/- 5,000 Hz then, where most things considered high fidelity were three times that. The drums sound like Alan Gratzer is beating cardboard boxes, but everything else is pretty respectable. I always loved "Down By The Dam" and "Lost In A Dream".

The recording has some FM interference, not the kind with loud static, but sometimes the music doesn't come through as clearly as other times. This is apparently the full broadcast, tape was flipped after track 9 ended. It is a stereo recording.
This is not a "definitive edition" source of this FM broadcast, but it is very listenable, and the tape was played through for the 1st time since its recording to digitize it in August of 2010 for posting.

OU: The recording has some FM interference, not the kind with loud static, but sometimes the music doesn't come through as clearly as other times. This is apparently the full broadcast, tape was flipped after track 6 ended. It is a stereo recording.
REO Speedwagon does not have alot of official live recordings, just one recorded in the 1970's from a few different shows, and another recorded many years after this show.
this is the only 1990 REO show listed in etree, and the only one I know of too. This is not the definitive edition source of this FM broadcast, but it is listenable, and the tape was played through for the 1st time since its recording to digitize it in August of 2010 for posting.

REO Speedwagon: Chicago 1979 (FM) FLAC

3736512047_d906a87675_o
December 28, 1979
Chicago, Illinois
International Ampitheatre

master tapes(ampex extra low noise/high output 90min)>technics rs-t36r>r9(line in)>2gb memory card>pc>audition>cd wav>tlh(flac 8)>you

OU: vida audition, the three sides from the two tapes were spliced togther. the volume was amplified by 2.5 db overall. a very slight touch of low end was added. the tracks were cut using cd wav. nothing else has been done
here's a master fm tape from the archives of john e lee. it is unknown what type of equipment was used to record the live broadcast on wlup the loop, chicago's rock station. the 2nd tape of this file was not in the best shape and getting a good transfer took several attempts. this is a great sounding show with a very minimal of hiss.
there is a slight portion of the show missing. it cuts at the end of track 10 on disc one. no music is missing from track 10 on track 11, it cuts in at the start of the song. with that being said, would grade this 8-9/10.
the band is clearly in high spirts, putting on a hometown show at the international ampitheatre. reo went out there and killed till the crowd yelled for more, closing out the evening with a few tasty covers before finishing off with one of their own.

disc 1
01)house announcer
02)intro
03)say you love me or say goodnight
04)like you do
05)heavy on your love
06)drop it(an old disguise)
07)only the strong survive
08)easy money
09)roll with the changes
10)time for me to fly (cuts out)
11)back on the road again (cuts in)

disc 2
01)the unidentified flying turkey trot (includes guitar solo)
02)157 riverside avenue
03)keep pushin
04)ridin the storm out
05)audience (dj comments too)
06)little queenie *
07) rock n roll music
08)golden country
09)closing (introductions)
10) dj out comments

the dj comments have been left, but they've been cut into their own individual tracks.
*originally by chuck berry
enjoy.
