Wooden Frog: BBC 1969 (FLAC)

ex-Traffic!
WOODEN FROG-front
BBC, February 1969
Remastered by PR

The only recordings in existence of the short-time venture of the members of Traffic, January-March 1969, while Steve Winwood was with Blind Faith. The original tapes sounded next to horrible and I worked on them many times in the last decade. The result were much better than anticipated.

1. Waiting On You
2. Crying To Be Heard
3. World In Changes
4. Leaving Blues
5. Waiting On You

Dave Mason - guitar, vocals,
Chris Wood - sax,
Jim Capaldi - drums, vocals,
Wynder K. Frog (Mick Weaver) - organ

Traffic: Boston 1970 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

TRAFFICtp70188
1970-Nov-10 The Boston Tea Party Boston MA (T-68)
OU: This release is sourced from a reel-to-reel tape recorded at 7 1/2 ips. that I got in trade in 1972. It's one of the first shows I got when I started trading. It's an audience recording.

Mics and Recorder unknown > unknown > Reel to Reel 7 1/2 ips > Playback Deck: Akai GX-747 > Nikko 32 Band EQ > Akai DR16 Digital Hard Disk Recorder > HHB CDR-800 Compact Disc Recorder > CDR > WAV >CD Wave Editor > FLAC

6. Heaven Is In Your Mind
7. Forty Thousand Headmen
8. (tuning)
9. Glad / Freedom Rider
10. Who Knows What Tomorrow May Bring
11. Means To An End
12. Dear Mr. Fantasy

OU: I removed or minimized crackels and static throughout. There were fades and gaps between almost every song so I removed the gaps. I removed a repeated segment and made a speed correction.
I did the editing, mastering (tweaking) and analog to digital transfer for this version of this show. Don't add files. Don't change or remove any of these files. Please keep the text and md5 files unaltered, together with the FLAC's.
Don't rename directories or file names if you share this. Don't alter the sound of this recording. The T releases are not to be used as a source for anyones so called remastering projects. If you really want to do something find a better quality recording of the show and work from that. Don't just take what I have worked on and screw with it. For Trade or Give Away only - Do not Sell - Do not encode as MP3 - MD or any other format which degrades the quality of the recording.

Chris Wood: electric piano, sax & flute
Jim Capaldi: drums & vocals
Steve Winwood: guitar, organ & vocals
Dave Mason: guitar & vocals

OU: It should be noted that some of these tracks were originally broadcast off speed, so on one or 2 tracks the BBC announcer sounds too slow but the song itself has been speed corrected to the proper pitch (track 4 is the most noticeable).
Also, it is likely that people out there might have improvements to this compilation, so if anyone has better quality, more songs or more specific info please upload them as an upgrade...
Finally, there is not much time between the tracks, so you may want to add pauses if you prefer to listen to it that way (since it fades between most tracks).
To my knowledge these are all unique versions that have never been officially released. When I compiled this I checked carefully to make sure than no songs were just the record being introduced by BBC announcers or just alternate mixes.
This is not the same as any of the BBC bootlegs, which have had studio outtakes mixed together with the BBC tracks. Also, all of this has been carefully remastered, so if you compare them I think you will hear the differences.
ENJOY! grner1

Recorded by Ken & Judy Lee on a Sony 124 cassette deck with Sony dynamic mics on a TDK normal bias tape. Microphones were set up in the balcony with a 10-20 foot spread.) Original tape was baked in "Susie Q", shell replaced and transferred on a Tascam 122mk3 via a Lucid ADA1000 Analog to Digital

A phenomenal recording and performance by Traffic, from a classic period. This was put on TTD but pulled because because a small defect on track two. I fixed it by cutting about 1/90th of a second off the end.

Tracks look like CDDA with probability 99-100%. Successfully encoded to 'flac' with sector alignments. Files tested ok (files decodable without error). Checksum file saved to disk. No errors occured. - dave@qb

Traffic: London 1974 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

5
Rainbow Theatre, London, England, May 17th 1974.
2nd generation cassette > behringer ultra curve pro deq 2496 equalizer > tascam cdrw750 > plex tool professional XL > wav > flac.

Really interesting show for various reasons, excellent audience from my 2nd generation tape. This show has not circulated so much in this quality, mostly circulated from 3rd or 4th generation tapes.....

Here is the comment from Winwoodfans.com:
Entire concert on 2 tapes. Very good audience recording. Recommended. Includes unreleased instrumentals "Intro" and "Vulcan"; they were recorded live by the band themselves for the rhythm tracks amongst other new material which would ultimately appear on the When the Eagle Flies album. "Vulcan" is of particular importance as it was one of the late Chris Wood's last compositions for Traffic.

Jimi Hendrix & Traffic: A Session (Studio) .shn

jh-session-f
jh-session-b
A purely instrumental affair, alternately dated as 1968 or 1970, this studio material is among the most intriguing unreleased pieces of either performer. The lineup is listed as Jimi Hendrix (guitar), Steve Winwood (piano), Chris Wood (flute), Rick Grech (bass), and Jim Capaldi (drums), but the actual lineup of these recordings is uncertain. Only Hendrix is identifiable with certainty. The overall sound resembles Traffic, and the piano and flute parts seem particularly recognizable as Steve and Chris, respectively.
The music on this cd consists of jams that, in contrast to Traffic's usual melodic sensibilities, range from minor key to almost atonal structure. Some of the magic of the "Voodoo Chile" session is also evident on this recording. The jams sound basically spontaneous, organized around particular keys with shifting tempos, and lack a distinct song structure. None of them sound like they were even intended to have vocal parts. For the most part, the piano and drums drive the rhythms while the guitar and flute solo. The extraordinary aspect of the recording is the complementary interplay between Jimi and Chris. While Jimi builds upon driving vamps that eventually erupt into molten solos, Chris counterbalances with his usual delicate, mellowing flute. The result of this collaboration is at least interesting, and sometimes magical. Unlike other Hendrix jam sessions, Jimi seems to have a lot of respect for Traffic and doesn't fully dominate the proceedings, which makes the session perhaps unique to both entities.
This bootleg CD consists of three jams of excellent quality studio recordings. The insert states that the session "was recorded at an unknown place in the late 60's". Credits are Jimi Hendrix (guitar), Chris Wood (flute and saxophone), Jim Capaldi (drums), and Steve Winwood (organ). In the book Jimi Hendrix: Electric Gypsy (1995), by Harry Shapiro and Caesar Glebbeek, the well researched discography section lists the CD as released in late 1990, and recorded in 1968 or 1969.
