Kansas: Portland 1975 (Soundboard) FLAC

masque2 copy
I take no credit whatever for this one except that I made the cover and am passing it on.
1975-12-12 - Portland, OR (Soundboard FLAC)
OU: Did you ever wonder just how often a die-hard Kansas fan (you know, the one that travels oceans just to see them perform in their hometown) happens to stumble upon a previously undocumented pristine soundboard recording from the early days of the band? A date that isn't even listed in the most elaborate of Kansas tour dates archives? Speaking for myself, I can count the occasions on two fingers... The last time it happened was the Villanova Field House show. No, wait... that was an FM, this is straight from the mixing desk. And it's even from the year prior to it: 1975, the early stages of the Masque tour! To my knowledge it never aired.
01 - Song For America (10:50)
02 - Icarus (6:03)
03 - Down The Road (3:57)
04 - Belexes (4:15)
05 - Drum Solo (3:18)
06 - Guitar Solo (3:06)
07 - Child Of Innocence (4:42)
08 - Bringing It Back (11:29)
Playlist length: 47 minutes 40 seconds

Led Zeppelin: Tokyo 1972 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

by request - Empress Valley EVSD 319/320
zeppelin_my_brother_f
Budokan Hall, Tokyo, Japan
Oct. 02, 1972
Led Zeppelin Is My Brother
Original Silvers>EAC>WAV>Flac(8)

Set list:-
CD1 (75.11): Introduction by Goro Itoi, Rock and Roll, Over The Hills And Far Away, Black Dog, Misty Mountain Hop, Since I've Been Loving You, Dancing Days, Bron-yr-Aur Stomp, The Song Remains The Same, The Rain Song.
CD2 (52.22): Dazed And Confused, Stairway To Heaven, Hole Lotta Love (includes Everybody Needs Somebody to Love, Boogie Woogie, My Baby Left Me, Killing Floor, I Can't Quit You), Heartbreaker, Immigrant Song, Communication Breakdown.

The first release by Empress Valley for a Japan 1972 Tour concert. They have used the really excellent stereo audience recording, on reel to reel tapes, that was originally released by the Patriot label many years ago as the 2CD Budokan Oct 2, 1972. Subsequently released by Tarantura as No Use Greco, and also by other labels. Described by Patriot as: "Complete show from true open-reel master. No cut and final sound quality". The sound was excellent, and untampered with. Empress Valley have done a very good job remastering the original reel to reel tapes (illustrated on the back of the most attractive glossy colour slipcase), and have filled the very few gaps in the main source with another audience recording from this concert. If you want a sound closer to the master then the Patriot release will be to your liking, but if you like a more powerful and punchy sound then this release will be right up your street. There are useful liner notes from Aquarius 11, and a facsimile of the original concert ticket, both front and back, a nice touch. This release is very well packaged and presented, which adds up to a most desirable release for this concert. A pity they screwed up the track listings for each CD on the back cover, Dazed And Confused is on disc 1, not 2. The Japan 1972 Tour concerts are often regarded disparagingly by armchair critics and pundits, but yet again the lucky Japanese audiences were treated to a complete change of set list, and brand new songs being premiered. The playing was generally of a very high standard, and the concerts were not burdened with overindulgent solos. So full marks to Empress Valley for a great sound and really nice packaging. Review: Vienna Magic (Wardour-076)
Ever since Queen’s first visit to Vienna in 1978, relatively late in their career for such an important city, they visited the Austrian capital on every tour until their last. On the Magic tour Queen played two sold out shows on July 21st and July 22nd. These were the only indoor shows on the tour and are among the best documented, both visually and aurally.
Both of these shows were taped by the same individual sitting in the a similar location. Because of these factors he produced some of the best sounding tapes from the era. They don’t have the “flatness” inherent to outdoor recordings but are very punch and lively. Queen’s Magictour was designed as a big spectacle in the biggest arenas around Europe. The setlist and performance was aimed towards that.
Hearing what was meant of the big arena in a smaller indoor venue offers a different perspective and interesting contrast to the more well known shows. The intimacy of performance is what stands out in these recordings.
Wardour pitch corrected both shows so that they run at the correct speed. The label is great at producing the exhaustive editions for Queen shows by offering both audio and video discs in one package. Vienna Magic is one of the better sounding and produced efforts for Queen’s final tour and stands as definitive along with One Sweet Moment (Wardour-032) and Thank You All (Wardour-052).
Stadthalle, Vienna, Austria - July 21st, 1986
Disc 1 (56:20): One Vision, Tie Your Mother Down, In The Lap Of The Gods…Revisited, Seven Seas Of Rhye, Tear It Up, A Kind Of Magic, Under Pressure, Another One Bites The Dust, Mustapha (intro), Who Wants To Live Forever, I Want To Break Free, impromptu, guitar solo, Now I’m Here
Disc 2 (48:18): Love Of My Life, Is This The World We Created?, (You’re So Square) Baby I Don’t Care, Hello Mary Lou, Tutti Frutti, Bohemian Rhapsody, Hammer To Fall, Crazy Little Thing Called Love, Radio Ga Ga, We Will Rock You, Friends Will Be Friends, We Are The Champions, God Save The Queen

The only other silver release of this show was on Live In Vienna, Austria, July 21, 1986 on SRS records, a Russian company claiming to be based in Spain. The sound quality on that release was very good to excellent but was marred by clicks between the tracks since they use a faulty cdr. Wardour is superior in every way with more clarity and a perfect transfer of the tape.
The tape cuts in during the “God works in mysterious ways” taped introduction before the firey “One Vision,” one of Queen’s best set openers which reaches an emotional peak with Freddie’s intonation of “Look what they’ve done to my dreeeeeeeeeeeeeeem!”
“Are you ready to play?” Freddie asks before they start the first medley with “In The Lap Of The Gods…Revisited.” The final song of the medley “A Kind Of Magic” elicits audible excitement in the audience.
“Another One Bites The Dust” is introduced as a “boogie” and sounds in this recording as if it is going to smash the stage into splinters when it hits the climax with the prolonged funk guitar workout by the end. Afterwards, instead of speaking about the Queen breakup rumors, Freddie sings a bit of “Mustapha” as an introduction to “Who Wants To Live Forever?”
Before “Love Of My Life” Brian May tells the audience “I remember people can sing pretty well in Vienna” while they serenade him. “That’s enough, thank you very much. It’s my birthday morgen.” The entire acoustic set, including the classics, is very well recorded and provides an unusually intimate moment in such a massive show. The show ends with a fun version of “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” In the first encore “Radio Ga Ga” Freddie forgets the lyrics in the first verse (the same place as in Cologne) and mumbles his way through.

Black Sabbath: Chicago 1981 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

with Ronnie James Dio
tourbook_mob_rules_us_1981_big
live on December 21st 1981 at the Chicago International Amphitheater

OU: This was the first show with Dio I had seen. Alvin Lee and Ten Years Later was the backup band. I arrived late and in the middle of Alvin Lee. Enjoy this and don't forget to play loud on your best stereo system. I forgot to split the track between Iron Man and The Mob Rules...:(
This about 74 minutes long. I Mastered it on two Gold TY disks. It was to close for comfort.
Microphones: Sony ECM 33F
Tape Deck: Sony TC-D5M
Cassettes: TDK SAX-90
Recorded with Dolby B but I choose to leave it off on this playback
Master Tape > Sony TC-D5M (ORIGINAL UNIT!!)
Run Through the Naim 52 Pre-amplifier
To the Philips CDR-101 (Marantz CDR-600) [tracked on the fly] ZERO GAIN SETTING!
Using CDR Yaiyo Yuden 74-ZY Gold (The best!)
Playback in PC with Plextor UltraPlex40max SCSI CD-ROM
EAC in paranoid mode to slow the read speed.
FLAC > To You Guys, Enjoy RB

Set List:
Neon Knights
N.I.B.
Children of the Sea
Country Girl
Black Sabbath
War Pigs
Slipping Away (drum solo)

Pretty good transfer- a little hiss, but otherwise very good. The last few seconds of 'Parisienne Walkways' is missing, this fades due to a tape flip. Note segue from end of Sisters of Mercy into 'Emerald' (or did Lynott rip himself off??).

The Rolling Stones: Outtakes & Alternates (1960's - 1978) FLAC

10303095-10303098-large
Professional Master Series -- Outtakes & Alternates (1960's - 1978) by JFLabs
Lineage: Various Silvers & Vinyl Studio Outtakes --> Flac to Wave --> Mastered for CD Audio --> Wave to Flac (Trader's Little Helper) --> Uploaded to you

OU: Greetings fellow music lovers,
First, JFLabs is a fictitous name i'll be using to denote bootlegs that have been mastered by myself & assistant. I used to work as an audio mastering engineer in the music industry for almost 20 years. Now my health is not so good & i'm disabled & retired. This gives me the time to work on projects like this one...as long as my health is decent. I wish to remain anonymous for any possible legal issues regarding bootlegs...ya never know in today's world:-( I treat each track as if they were final mixes placed on my desk to be mastered. I only deal with high quality recorded & mixed tracks...stuff I'm gonna listen to myself after they are mastered. On to this series of tracks.
First, I chose only tracks that were recorded & mixed somewhat pretty good (except for the 2 Bonus songs...i couldn't resist adding them even though they have their share of hiccups & the quality of recording is not up to par). I did some edits (removed clicks, crackle, hiss, corrected speed/pitch, fades...etc.), then went about the mastering procces. I tried hard to stay away from compressing the mids & was real careful not to limit them to death so as to keep the dynamics/transients intact. They are limited to around 12.3db--15db, which is a good comprimise between loudness & dynamics. Don't expect them to sound like officially released tracks...although i do prefer some of these over their official counterpart. Some tracks were just not recorded good enough (wild horses, sweet virginia, all down the down_acoustic...etc.), but still sound pretty good. The songs are in no particular order, i figure you can make your own cd's with the tracks you like best. Check out the samples in the mp3(320kbps) sample file. My deepest gratitude goes out to all who have shared/uploaded these gems...you know who you are!

There are a few level fluctuations as well as a little over modulation. Heads were aligned for optimum playback. I never used noise reduction. As with all Digital releases, this is for free trade or blank media trade only. Not to be bought or sold. Keep the spirit of trading alive and well. Nothing has been edited out or EQ'd.

Lineage:Various c90 cassettes>cdrw>steinberg clean version 3>cdr>flac (level 8 encode)

OU: Found various Marillion demo tapes lying around and thought i would transfer them to cd. The first 3 tracks are from a session with the original vocalist Doug Irvine. Sound quality was quite poor due to the age of the tape and with quite a lot of tape hiss.
Track 4 was the first time Fish sang on a recording by the band. Legend has it that he saw an advert for a vocalist which he answered and they sent him an instrumental version of The Web.
Onto this tape he overdubbed the lyrics he had just written and the sent it back to the band.
The rest is history (as they say)
Tracks 5-7 are demos by the band and are all different versions of the songs.
Tracks 8-9 are rehersal songs with I Know What I Like developing into an argument within the band.
Tracks 10-11 are BBC Friday Rock Show sessions, another track was broadcasted (3 Boats Down From The Candy)
but sound quality was very poor so i left it off this collection.
Track 12 was an EMI studio session and i have checked with the versions officially released on the Script
double album and this isn't there so i have included it here (this version has a different intro).
I was hoping to include Grendel (EMI studio session) but it sounds very similar to the one on the Script album so i left it off.
All tracks have been cleaned using the Steinberg Clean Vers.3 computer programme and it has improved the quality no end.
Some tape hiss is still present but no where near as bad as before i cleaned them. Hopefully it won't spoil your enjoyment as some of the tracks are quite historical.
as always don't encode to mp3 and do not sell.

Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe hinged box with two individual paper cases holding CDs. The inner sleevs are reproductions of the typical yellow BBC Transcription Series vinyl sleeves. Some very few box-sets were sold with TMOQ-style sleeves because not enough yellow BBC sleeves were made. This title has been released with two different covers. The "Maxell is Pleased to Present" version has black artwork from a famous promo only radio LP, while the "Floating Pig Blimp" version has famous William Stout white artwork which has been used on many of previous LP and CD release. Also reissued as a standard jewel case with the same catalogue #. What we in the collectors' circle were mostly frustrated with the official "BBC Sessions" release in 1997 was its incompleteness. To our joy, however, Empress Valley has released a 4 CD set covering chronologically all of the BBC radio sessions that the band had in its history. The title says, the materials included in it are very complete, covering every tune played and every interview or chat, if any, recorded at the respective sessions. In addition, the quality of the audios allegedly made from Pre-FM Master Reels is also of excellent quality, almost equal to that of the versions in the official release, except for the band's session for "Rhythm And Blues" recorded on 16 March '69 which is said to be rather made from an Aircheck Master. Even the audio of the "Rhythm And Blues" session as featured in the new title is a slight upgrade over that of the past title "Sunshine Woman" on Flagge label. As especially noticeable from the deeper echoes of Robert's voice in many songs of April 1, 1971 concert, the audio mix in the title is clearly different from the versions in the official release, which serves as an evidence that the title was not made by simply copying the official versions.
