BBC "Top Gear" with John Peel - January/May 1968

OU: Another find from the old Boot Box. The Beefheart Boot "Out Here, Over There" is well documented online and contains two complete Peel Sessions and 7 additional tracks which have been left off this torrent as they have been released on the "Grow Fins" box.
The Peel Sessions have, according to my research, never been included in an official release; the original tapes were taped over by the BBC long ago. Regarding the extra tracks, 2 are from Cannes 1968, four are from Kidderminster 1968, and one is listed (on the back cover of the CD) as being from Amougies 1969--this incipient version of "Sun Zoom Spark" is subject to debate as to its origins and source--I'm leaving it off the torrent for the sake of concision and cohesion.
Sound varies, especially on tracks 4 & 5 which seem to have been compiled from alternate sources. Overall I'd give it a B+, very listenable, especially for the devoted fan--as which of us are not?

PERFORMANCE: Absolutely excellent
OU COMMENTS: This is the SODD release of both sources of the July 13th show (+ the couple of songs from July 10th). I also have the Dandelion box (titled "The Complete LA Friday Tapes"), but I'm unable to rip it because of one scratch on one of the discs.
When comparing those 2 releases.....I prefer Dandelion. I'm not a fan of SODD's EQing. They make the drums sound like plastic buckets.
But from what I understand; others like SODD's EQing - and maybe they'll find this upload useful, if so.
All tracks comes from July 13th 1975, apart from 6 tracks on disc 3 and 4.
Thanks to Mike Millard for his recording (disc 1 and 2)

Bath Music Festival 1970 (G+ VG Aud) FLAC

You've heard worse, you've heard better but you probably haven't heard it all until today!

The Bath Festival of Blues and Progressive Music was a music festival held at the Bath and West Showground in Shepton Mallet on the 27-28th June 1970. It featured a lineup of the top American west coast and British bands of the day, including Donovan, Mothers of Invention, Santana, The Flock, Led Zeppelin (headlining act), Hot Tuna, Country Joe McDonald, Colosseum, Jefferson Airplane (set aborted), The Byrds (acoustic set), Moody Blues (unable to play), Dr. John (acoustic set), Frank Zappa, Canned Heat, It's a Beautiful Day, Steppenwolf, Johnny Winter, John Mayall, Pink Floyd, Fairport Convention, and Keef Hartley. This lineup eclipsed the more famous Isle Of Wight festival held in August of the same year, but as it attracted less press coverage at the time and was a smaller affair, it has generally received less attention in the years since. The show started at midday on the 27th (a Saturday) and finished at about 6:30 am on Monday morning.

To promote the release of the Echoes - The Best of Pink Floyd back in 2001, Capital Records ran a treasure hunt online.
On a very small number of selected sites (Brain Damage included) there was a unique link to a special "playing card" - a two sided, interactive Flash file.
In all, there were six of these to collect (download) and once you had all six, you could apply for a set of the printed versions. Of these, there were only 500 sets made.
Each card - printed and electronic - was designed by Storm Thorgerson, and featured images from the band's long career, and in the case of the ones you could download, sound bites and pieces of music play when you moved your mouse over certain parts of the card.
Also here we have high res scans (600dpi) of my cards that were sent to me by Hollywood and Vine. There is no way of knowing if these are actually limited to 500 as they are not numbered.
I have included some of the other bits that went with it - like the screen-saver and timeline thingy but am unable to find the buddy icons. (i'm sure I have them somewhere).

The recent posting of new sources 1 & 2 caused me to check and both are slightly better sounding, source 1 being the best, although again they were also mono sources with possibly a little "fake stereo enhancement" somewhere in the lineage and both with the right channel being the best quality, so I did the remastering above to combine the best of all the sources and am very pleased with result.
Now you can hear Can at their true majestic best, with Damo in especially good form, and now in significantly improved sound quality...Hope you like it too !!

Phil Collins Plays Motown: Montreux Jazz Festival 2010 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

OU: This is a rework of the audio added 15-07-10. I've done the following tweaks to improve sound:
- Channels are ballanced by increasing audio in right channel.
- Audience noise is considerably reduced, particularly shouts and claps during songs.
- Added a slight bit of high end to give a slightly sharper sound.
OU Notes on the result: I went through a literal hell to reduce the audience noise on this one - the shouts were not so bad, but the clapping ment A LOT of repetitive small edits (but I guess I have a stubborn nature, once I started, I wanted to go through with it). As others have mentioned, someone in the audience very close to the recorder is quite enthusiastic and shouts and woops a lot, and while the sound is improved a lot in my oppinion, there's only so much you can do. Normally, I try to go for discretion, so that the changes I make as far as possible not are noticable, but that was not really an option here - in order to make this pleasant to listen to, I had to cut down audience shouts a lot, and that means you might notice where I've taken action.
I didn't do much changes to the audio in general, as I think it was a fairly good source (apart from the audience intervention). Apparantly recorder was placed left of center of the stage, which means left channel has a higher recording level of the music. I even this out by increasing volume of right channel - however, as audience sounds was even in both channels, this means audience is now a bit higher in right channel (in case you wondered why). I didn't add compression to the music tracks, because the original master has a pretty good dynamic response, however I did add compression to the parts where Phil talks, because those were barely audible as it were. Also, I've added a fade between My Girl and the Quincy Jones/Claude Nobs talk, because it's virtually impossible to make out what is being said in this part, and hence I preferred to have it optionable whether you want to include this track.

OU: Pink Floyd at Chantilly Castle...that was a hell of a show! Outstanding venue and setting, fresh and sunny evening, nice audience. Everything you may have wanted from a show. Actually this came after the awful experience of Monza in 1989 when I barely saw the band playing (the venue was shitty, you could not see anything...the only good news was that my future wife was there too although we did not meet on that occasion!). This time it was great. I was somewhere in the center some 60 meters behing the soundboard. And my Aiwa microphone could fully capture the outdoor sound. This is probably one of the recordings I'm proud the most (maybe following the path of the early Mike Millard? :-).
