Dave Brubeck Trio: Boston 1974 (Early Dan Lampinski) FLAC

with Gerry Mulligan & Paul Desmond
Dave Brubeck Trio Boston 1974-02-08-fr
Symphony Hall
Boston, MA
8 February 1974
Master audience recording taped by Dan Lampinski

01 Line For Lyons
02 Lullaby De Mexico
03 Blues For Newport
04 These Foolish Things (spliced)
05 Someday My Prince Will Come
06 Open The Gates (Out Of The Way Of The People)
07 All The Things You Are (spliced)
08 Take Five
09 E: O When The Saints Go Marching In Jam

Dave Brubeck - piano
Paul Desmond - alto sax
Gerry Mulligan - bariton sax
Jack Six - bass
Allan Dawson - drums

The last track turns into O When The Saints Go Marching In, but it indeed is a jam session, on which Brubeck's sons step in, I guess.
So, the additional line-up for the last track:
Peter Madcath Ruth - harmonica
Perry Robinson - clarinet
Chris Brubeck - trombone
and possibly Dan Brubeck - drums, possibly replacing Dawson.

The performance well represents the quality of their performances at that time; Brubeck is obviously having a good night and a lot of energy! He would tour with several groups at the same time. As I understand it, he was billed as The Brubeck Trio, or alternatively The Brubeck Trio with Mulligan and Desmond, or Two Generations of Brubeck.
O When The Saints here is by Two Generations of Brubeck.

Warning/Disclaimer: This recording should not be confused with the series labelled "The Dan Lampinski Tapes Volume XX". This recording represents part of Dan's earliest efforts to capture the live concert experience for posterity, hence the series name "Dan Lampinski - The Early Years Volume XX". Given the very consistent high quality of Dan's later work, it would have been easy to blow off these recordings and consign them to the dustbin of history, but there are quite a few captures in the series that are well worth circulating, if not for their rarity, but for the obsessive collector types (we know who we are) that want every single second of any recordings of their favourite musicians. So please, just accept these recordings for what they are, another part of the tapestry we weave when we collect and share such things.
Since Dan never traded copies of his recordings, they are all essentially uncirculated. Some copies were made for friends, but these releases are the first time most of these recordings have ever seen the light of day, and are direct from his master cassettes. No EQ'ing has been done to any of the transfers. Feel free to EQ, matrix, patch, etc and re-post if you like, just give Dan credit for the original recording.

Excerpt of a review from the Providence Journal: The emotional center of the afternoon was the guest appearance of iconic pianist Dave Brubeck with Wynton Marsalis’ group. Marsalis brought Brubeck (who was given a hero’s welcome when he arrived at the Fort) to the stage, introducing him as “more than a legend.” Brubeck and the group then did a swinging version of Brubeck’s “Blues for Newport,” followed by a tender duet between the two stars on “These Foolish Things.” Then Brubeck
rolled back a few decades with a powerful, fleet reading of his Chopin-based “Thank You,” then finishing his appearance with “Take The A Train.”
