Notes: As the Monkees ill-fated 1997 UK reunion tour wound to a close, they were really firing on all cylinders as a band by the time they arrived in Bournemouth. I've read that these shows were absolutely panned by the British press - why, I have no idea.
I think everyone of these shows is absolutely entertaining and they stand as a vindication of the Monkees' genuine talent as a rock 'n roll band. As Micky Dolenz has said, it's as though Leonard Nimoy actually became a vulcan!
The sound quality is amongst the best of the 1997 UK tapes, though, still not stellar. A solid 'B+'.

OU Comments: In my opinion, Simon seems to be somewhat down in the dumps, not his normal energetic self here, but regardless, this is a fantastic recording focusing mostly on the 'Medazzaland' album, with a few hits sprinkled into the setlist. There are 4 additional bouns tracks which were recorded at Privacy Studios in London, but I've opted not to include them here as I'm not sure that they were ever commercially released. I don't believe they were, but better safe than sorry.

I met these men when they were on tour that year in Springfield, MO. The hotel I was managing exchanged ad airtime for rooms to put the band up for the night. They were quite tired at 3:30 AM but quite nice and easy to talk to also

David and Reeves perform in front of a small audience in a studio and chat some with the audience. This recording is complete except the first few seconds of the track 1 introduction. Quality is crisp and clear.
Track 4 has a bit of explanation from David how a riff he got from Jimmy Page many years earlier helped him put both those songs together (yes, even David Bowie learned something from LZ's guitarist).
This was the day before the 1st of 2 shows at the Orpheum Theater in Boston, (with his full band) and there is mention of the webcast of one of those. It was my 1st ever attempt to see a webcasted concert, and I never got to see more than an occasional broken apart note. live concert webcasting was still a very primitive art in 1997 (apparently) but I later heard the shows were very good ones. Boston has always appreciated David Bowie, even playing a "secret gig" at Avalon (1996?) which I've never heard. This is the 1st time this recording has been posted (September 2009).
Since it's a short set, I also included Conan O'Brien TV appearance of April 11, 1997, which fits with this because one of many subjects of mention in this radio show was track 10 (IAOA). The Conan appearance is complete, lineage is the same except from TV (cable) instead of FM radio.

Original notes by the tree's administrator: This fantastic show (with an especially interesting setlist) is from two different sources: the Hard Luck Stories recording and a complete audience recording. The entirety of the Hard Luck Stories version, which is incomplete, was spliced with the audience recording as seamlessly as possible, and the sound quality is very good. Very much recommended. Great versions of Razor Love (played twice!), Don't Be Denied, Hard Luck Stories, Throw Your Hatred Down (also played twice) and much more.
Special thanks to Mr. Clean for fixing these shows as much as possible and merging them together flawlessly. Also, thanks to Kerry M., Mark D. and Leo E. for sending me these shows in the first place.
