OU Comments: This was my fourth trip to beautiful Infinity Hall in Norfolk, CT this year. It is really a great place to show. Acoustics are fantastic, and with less than 300 seats, there isn't a bad one in the house. I'm not overly familiar with Kansas. I know some of their more famous songs, and I saw them live twice in 2000 when they opened for Yes. I was impressed with their musicianship. I thought they put on a great show. The recording came out great. All in all, it was a great evening of music. -- MP August 2011

Led Zeppelin: Los Angeles 1973 (Soundboard) FLAC

I previously posted the Wendy version - here is the EVSD
Bonzo's Birthday Party (Definitive Edition) - inside
Bonzo's Birthday Party
The Forum, Inglewood, Los Angeles, CA, USA
May 31, 1973
Soundboard
Empress Valley Supreme Disc EVSD 171/172

bootledz.com says:
"Celebration first released this incomplete soundboard on a single disc. Watchtower was the first to release more tape, on 2 cds.
WT, EV, and Neverland's cds four and five have all of the songs on Celebration and includes much of Rock & Roll, all of Celebration Day and Rain Song, Dazed & Confused, and Stairway To Heaven. Since I've Been Loving You is uncut.
The 2cd versions have a cut in Rain Song. EV filled in the missing time (19 seconds), using a soundboard from a different night instead of using one of the audience tapes (already in their catalog) from the original show. Stairway is cut in the beginning and WT left it unedited.
All titles seem to share the same generation of tape. Celebration has the higher frequencies emphasized (sounding a little flat) while Watchtower and EV have emphasis on the lower end. WT has more of the sound playing through the right channel while EV has them switched to the left channel."

argenteumastrum.com says:

Comments: Japanese bootleg. Deluxe gatefold sleeve with an original vinyl artwork and liner notes in Japanese and English on insert. Gold CDs. Empress Valley uses different soundboard from an unknown 1973 location to fill the gaps in the original tape except for Rock And Roll, which has its original cuts without any filling.

Audioslave: Montreux 2005 (FM) FLAC

by request
morello montreux
Montreux Jazz Festival
Miles Davis Hall, Montreux
July 5, 2005

OU COMMENT: just came back from my trip to the montreux jazz festival, from the fantastic concert that audioslave gave last night, and YIPPEE!! my favorite live radio station, DRS 3 of Switzerland, already broadcasts this gem!
man, i've seen a lot of good live bands, but this was one hell of a rock show! the band was really surprised to find themselves playing on a normal tuesday night in front a crowd that rocked as there would be no tomorrow! whenever morello finished a solo, the listeners gave standing ovations like they were at a jazz concert (well, it's called Jazz Festival after all...) and cornell was accompanied by the giant audience choir during the accoustic Black Hole Sun. i think the band liked their playing there ;-)

INFOS:
Quality: Excellent, some minor diginoises.
Source: DRS 3 broadcast, july 6, 2005.
Lineage: Cable Radio > wave > flac
Editing: edited and normalized with wavelab. a major radio talkover before Black Hole Sun was cut out, some minor station tags were not edited to preserve a maximum of sound material.

Completeness: not complete, at least two or three songs are missing at the end, especially Killing In The Name Of. there's also missing the nice little story when cornell entered the stage before the Black Hole Sun encore and gave away his mic to a fan in the front row as a gift.
Running Time: 85 min. (should fit onto a 90 minutes CD-R).
md5 checksums included. no artwork but i include a pic of tom morello which i took with my handy.
Recorded, edited and seeded by zingapoor

Setlist: had no time to identify all songs, just gave a quick listen to the whole show. help me out!

The first few seconds of the recording sound as though the tape had some wrinkles in it. It improves greatly thereafter.

Steel Tips & Richard Hell and The Voidoids live at CBGB's 1982? (FM) FLAC

CBGB_01_rev-1
Unknown Date (Steel Tips had an EP in 1981 and the second Richard Hell song is from his 1982 album "Destiny Street).
FM Broadcast
A Nevinsrip Collection Spectacular from Big Bad Bill's Big Box O' Rarities!
Bill's original cassette>Sony TC-RX410 Cassette Deck>Alesis 9500 Masterlink (no EQ)>AIFF
File conversion done with xACT setting of 6

OU: Mr Nevinsip himself has granted me the honor of hosting this upload. If you haven't heard the story of how Bill and I met, well, its a good one. Sorry you missed it.
Anyway, I hadn't heard of Steel Tips until this tape showed up, but here's what the Trouser Press said back in the day about them:
"Universally ignored and/or abhorred during their existence, Steel Tips were one of the few punk bands in the late '70s to wallow in and lionize actual street-level violence, as opposed to costumes and makeup. At a time when sado shock was an easily marketable commodity, this New York group trafficked in genuine physical assault, attacking their jaded tuff punk audiences."

There's only two Steel Tips tracks here;
1. 96 Tears
2. Eastern Hagen, PA (I'm guessing at this)

Then the radio show shifts to some tunes from Richard Hell and the Voidoids live:
3. Walking On Water
4. Staring In Her Eyes
5. Blank Generation
6. DJ Closing Segment

Quality is excellent.

OU Notes: JEMS master recording. The Boomtown Rats shared the stage with Graham Parker & The Rumour this night. Graham's sax player joins them on stage for a few numbers. Bob is his typically chatty, witty and sarcastic self between numbers. They play an early version of I Don't Like Mondays here which was released as a single right about this time but wouldn't show up formally on an album until later in the year.

Video Lineage: Broadcast master (recorded live by the station as it happened... probably on 1" tape) > DVCAM (NTSC) > AVI (Vegas capture) > MPEG-2 (CBR 5)

Audio Lineage: "Venetia" (Ultimate Sound US 62/63) CD > PCM Wave file

HRV's "Pink Floyd A Venezia" was one of my first video projects and I've learned a lot since then. I recently decided to start the project from scratch using the same video source which I thought I could improve on. And I believe I did. The audio on the original release was mono so the audio is the big upgrade here. MOB gave a ringing endorsement for the "Venetia" CD and has the following to say about it...
"The audio files you downloaded for Venice are from a bootleg called "Venetia" (Ultimate Sound US 62/63). All I can say is that it's the best audio version I heard of the Venice concert. It's superb stereo and even better than the FM master I used for my version. Maybe it's pre-FM, or very clean FM, or hifi stereo TV capture, I don't know, but it's he best to use for synching with your video."
So here you have it. The AMLOR tour was not my favorite but I'm sure that many people will enjoy this upgrade.
Cheers!

Pink Floyd: Boston 1973 (Joe Maloney's Recording Remastered) FLAC

out-booklet (2)
(Maloney > KRW_CO > TomP Remaster)
BOSTON MUSIC HALL
BOSTON, MA
1973-03-14
Analog Master > WAV > FLAC
Contrast clause:
transfer from the original Maloney Master in 2007:
Changes made (Nero 8)
- Converted to true mono, using better sounding right channel (disk 1) and left channel (disk 2)
- Fixed the tape flip at 10:27 on Track03 seamlessly joined original Track04 (at 10.27 if you're interested)
- Fixed the rough transition between tracks 04 & 05
- Fixed the applause cut between tracks 13 & 14
- Fixed more than 2000 volume fluctuations
- Very slight EQ, +1dB bass & +2dB treble, much less than you can do with amp tone controls
- Added flac tags for digital streamer replay, note altering files in any way will destroy these
- Minor re-tracking

Quality: Worth an "historic" A+ as (IMHO) possibly the best sounding recording from 1973
OU Notes: The PRRP from the 2005 rip remaster was recently posted on Dime and I was surprised it sounded inferior compared to the raw new 2007 rip. PRRP omitted removed the Dime info credit plus crucially the fact that the recording is mono so the only audio information they were remastering.
A with many old recordings on this tape deck, the left and right channels extracted on a stereo deck sound slightly different, so I've restored it back to true mono using the better sounding of the channels (right on CD1 and left on CD2) and then fixed the constantly varying volume level plus a few other fixes.
TomP August 2011

02 - Obscured By Clouds > When You're In (14.13)

04 - Echoes (22.15)

Disc two (66.03)

Keith Jarrett/Jan Garbarek Quartet: Hannover 1974 (FM) FLAC

front
Hannover, Germany Funkhaus Studio 1
1974-04-17
NDR Jazz Workshop, FM transmission

Keith Jarrett: piano
Jan Garbarek: sax
Palle Danielson: bass
Jon Christensen: drums

At the beginning on CD1, track 1 the radio announcer speaks about 2 special recordings ("2 besondere Aufnahmen"), but here is only 1 recording (April 17th 1974). Maybe the 2nd show is transmitted later, directly after this. Track listing is "as the radio announcer told us". In the www I found also April 18th as the date for this concert, but you will hear the announcer speaking "17th April".

Comment(knopflerlive.com): Great show, great quality (probabyl from MiniDisc or DAT digital recorder). Very good versions of Planet of the New Orleans, I Think I Love You Too Much (a bit different than that played in Knewborth '90 - new bridge added), Setting Me Up (great solos!) and Tunnel of Love
Comment Jean-Sébastien Brasme: From the bootleg "Strait To The Point", this concert is from the first venue of the 'On Every Street Tour'. The sound is great for an audience recording it includes some rares songs :
-Setting Me Up,
-Why Worry,
-I Think I Love You Too Much (great solo)
+ a different version of Heavy Fuel.
Last track on CD2 "Tunnel of Love" is from 27.08.1991 (same venue).

Comments(fom Geetarz): "IMHO this one have the best version of Planet of New Orleans and, I like the very sweet end of the show with people singing along Why Worry." (JYB).

ENLIGHT NOTE: One of my first purchased bootleg CD from underneath the shopcounter!
spontaneously felt in love with this show.
-STUnNING version of "Planet of New Orleans"!!
-Great guitar licks and solo during "I think I love you too much"
-very nice version of "Setting me up"
-sweet audience sing a long during "Your latest trick" and "Why worry"

Funny momment when Mark speaks to the audience before the song "on every street": ..."This one is the title track from the new album....... you wanna hear the the old stuff Dub??...( audince responce:..."yeah..")..well this was a mixure...yes or no..we gonna do both....we'll do both....well everything must change my friend..everything must change....( mark bit of laughter)...MINE HERO I HOPE THAT DUBLIN CHANGE TOO MUCH.." (audience laughter)

This the fourth (26th August 1991) show of the "on every street 1991-1992 world tour"

Big Audio Dynamite are...
Mick Jones - Lead Vox, Lead Guitar
Don Letts - Keyboards, Samples, Effects, Additional Percussion, Vocals, Toasting
Leo 'Ez-Kill' Williams - Bass, Ocassional Vocals
Greg Roberts - Drums, Percussion, Vocals
Dan Donovan - Sadly, Not Present
Andrew 'Davo' Davitt - Guitar, Keyboards, Vocals

A Brief History of B.A.D....
After unceremoniously leaving The Clash in 1983, Mick Jones went on to form Big Audio Dynamite in 1985 after a brief
stint in General Public in 1984. The band were perhaps nearly 20 years ahead of their time. It was a more optimistic form of Thatcherism angst set to a dance beat. The work that Mick began on The Clash's magnum opus "Sandanista!" became the seeds for B.A.D. The band played an amalgamation of punk, early hip-hop, dub-step, dance-hall, and synthesizer dance music. Early on, this was set to the backdrop of Ennio Morricone's "Spaghetti Western" soundtracks, including liberal doses of Clint Eastwood and Eli Wallach film samples as well. Truly, a very novel concept at the time, as Sony soon found out when the label was unprepared for the fallout caused by the band using said samples without legal clearances. Like fellow post-punk rebels, Public Image Limited, Big Audio Dynamite enjoyed moderate success in the U.K. and college radio and clubs in the U.S. as the term "Post Modern" began to become hip. Unfortunately the band in it's several incarnations never saw the global success of The Clash. Still, B.A.D. did outlive The Clash and did enjoy a brief Jones/Strummer reunion during the recording of "No. 10 Upping Street" in 1987. Furthermore, it's nearly impossible to discount the influence Big Audio Dynamite had on bands such as The Beastie Boys, Muse, LCD Soundsystem and Damon Albarn's Gorillaz. The latter of which, Mick Jones played with extensively during 2010's Plastic Beach Tour.

The performance...
The band played a handful of shows scheduled around 2011's Lollapalooza Festival in Chicago including this Southern California stop. Mick's voice is in fine form. Don, Greg and Andrew help round out the vocals. The band played an extremely tight hour and a half set of songs almost exclusively from the first four albums. The band's political take on apartheid "A Party" appears here among a crowd that doesn't understand its significance. Classics "Medicine Show", "Just Play Music!", "C'mon Every Beatbox", "The Bottom Line" and "E=MC2". B.A.D. II's "Rush" does make an appearance at the end of the set. The "Should I Stay Or Should I Go" infused hit "The Glode" and the Jones/Strummer penned "Beyond The Pale" sadly do not. The new track "Rob Peter Pay Paul" is played. It's a great melodic number slightly reminescent of "V. Thirteen" and is hopefully a preview to new material being recorded. No Clash songs
were played. This isn't really what this reunion is about is it? All the band members appeared to have a great time playing to an enthusiastic near capacity crowd. There were many smiles to be found. Don Letts stated afterward that he felt it was one of their best shows. I wonder if he say this to the fans after every show? Hmmm.

Of note...
Original keyboardist and musical director Dan Donovan was conspicuously absent. The details of his departure are still unclear. Many think his erattic behavior at some of the recent shows may be the cause while others state that he may just have been very unhappy with details regarding the reunion. After all, in 1990 Mick did (re)boot the band. Still, like The Specials re-formation without Jerry Dammers, "the show must go on, so to speak." I must add that one time B.A.D. II guitar tech, Andrew 'Davo' Davitt did an amazing job taking over. His Les Paul playing added a great deal of depth to the overall sound. To Dan I say, anyone once married to Patsy Kensit is probably due some much needed therapy. God speed!

The recording...
The Good: Solid pull from six feet from the rail. Perhaps a bit too close as their is a fair amount of reverb from not squaring with the stacks. Mick's Telecaster leads are the highlight as I was direct line of sight to his Marshall stack. Vocals are prominent and clear throughout, thanks to contributions from the entire band.
The Bad: A bit more reverb than I normally care for. Leo's bass lines are a bit boomy as his syle of playing and the room dictate. I sharpened this a tad in EQ without eradicating the power. Still, these are reggae style lines not rock.
The Ugly: A few world famous intoxicated O.C. douchebags make their presence known. Thankfully, most weren't up front and surprisingly most of their shouting and other crap is not directly "on-mic". One tall, stumbling Armenian dude (complete with designer sunglasses affixed to the crown of his head) slurs some poop between a few numbers. Also, one clapper to my right insisted on cupping his hands.
Well done! I minimized him in post so you won't have to take off your headphones between numbers.

In spite of some mildly adverse conditions, I'm going out on a limb and giving this an EX- / VG+. Shoot me or sue me if you feel otherwise.
Please support the band by going to one of their fantastic live shows...
http://www.myspace.com/bigaudiodynamite
Also, please check out support band "The Chain Gang Of 1974". They were very good. This time I did tape them.
http://www.thechaingangof1974.com/
Thanks go out to all the members of the band who stuck around after the show to meet the 30 or so die-hards who waited after the show. They chatted, signed autographs and took pictures in dark Anaheim Stadium parking lot. Truly a class act.

For fans of...
The Clash, General Public, Ennio Morricone, Clint Eastwood, Bob Marley And The Wailers, Mikey Dread, Carbon/Silicon, Gorillaz, London SS, The Specials, Joe Strummer And The Mescaleros, Blur, The English Beat, The Good, The Bad And The Queen, Gnarls Barkly, Dreadzone, The Beastie Boys, Public Image Limited. Oh yeah and Prince (why the hell not).
