Pink Floyd: Royal Festival Hall Rehearsals 1969 (DVD Audio Rip) FLAC

34341
Royal Festival Hall, London, England
14 April 1969

Royal Festival Hall Rehearsals
HRV DVD 008 Rev. A - DVD Audio rip
Lineage: Original 16mm Film > Submaster > DVDR(0) > DVDR(x) > DVD video files > DVD Audio Extractor > wav@16/48 > *flac@16/48
* Tracked with CD Wave, encoded to flac 8 with Flac Frontend, tagged and verified
16/44.1 flacs included in separate folder, downsampled with Adobe Audition 3.0.1, pre-post filltering set to high

To achieve a better flow for the benefit of the enjoyment of the rehearsals and the discussions between I deleted a few spots of silent footage which you can admire on the original DVD if you like but would be out of place on this audio rip:
- 15 secs of silence (screen credits) at the start
- 1 min 10 secs silent footage from stalls between Drum Instrumental and Organ Music
- 13 secs of silence at the end

Resulting track list:
1. Afternoon (Biding My Time) / Discussion / "Wild Tape" (4:20)
2. The Beginning (Green Is The Colour) / Beset By Creatures Of The Deep / Discussion (2:29)
3. Discussion / Nightmare (Cymbaline) / Discussion (3:33)
4. Drum Instrumental (Ummagumma) (0:37)
5. Organ Music Take 1 - A Saucerful Of Secrets (End Part) / Organ Music (3:20)
6. More Organ / Instrumental (5:50)
7. Chucking Out Time (Anthony Stern getting busted) (3:08)
(All songs are fragmentary)
Total time: 23:21

Apart from this unusual and fascinating chance at hearing the Floyd rehearse at this early point of their career, the discussions (well, discussions... it's mostly Roger making observations) between rehearsals and at the end (where Anthony Stern is asked to leave) alone are worth the price of admission in my opinion.

Original notes from HRV DVD 008 Rev. A (with thanks to RonToon and the Harvested team):
This is about 20 mins of b/w footage shot at the Royal Festival Hall by Anthony Stern (it sez so right there on the opening slate). It seems that Stern was called earlier that day by the band to shoot this amazing and unique performance. Unfortunately, he didn't go through all the proper channels, and only got permission from the RFH to shoot the rehearsals and only in certain areas of the venue. This becomes apparent when the venue's security "busts" him and orders him to turn over all of his equipment. This all takes place while the camera is still rolling, but with audio only! You can hear the escalating dialogue between Anthony and security/management as he pleads his case. Too bad he didn't go through the proper channels and pay for the rights to film the actual show, as he was evidently prepared to do, but at least we have this incredible rehearsal footage to marvel at. That's the story as Stern has pretty much confirmed.
It seems that the last bit (Rick playing the final part of ASoS of the huge house pipe organ) was outta synch, but I was able to fix that properly. Other songs include Biding My Time (with Rick briefly on trombone), Green is the Color, Cymbaline, and ASoS... all incomplete but still wonderful to watch!
This Rev.A is a substantial upgrade from the original release. The picture is much less washed out and the contrast is a lot better (the blacks ar darker) w/o any video enhancement.
This time around I can take an educated stab at the gen:
The original 16mm film was transferred at a professional studio. I'm not sure what tape stock it was transferred to, but there is a good chance that a DVD was made at the same time. I can only assume that a clone of that DVD was passed on (if it was done properly, it should be the same, but I can't know that for sure). I then received a perfect clone of that DVD which I converted to an NTSC MPEG-2 stream (CBR 8) and a
PCM stream. My previous release came from an unknown PAL VHS source.
Enjoy!

PINK FLOYD Dark Side Of The Sky
CO 25117 Chapter One
(P) 1990 Made in Italy

OU: HUNT THIS ONE DOWN WITH ALL YOUR MIGHT!!!
What a phenomenal performance, an absolute musical Picasso. This rendition of "Dark Side of the Moon" is completely different and just so refreshing because of its uniqueness. There are a few complaints however; a few lines missing from Time, The Great Gig in the Sky" is not likeable, and Us & Them is cut too short for my taste.
But otherwise a very superb performance. "Atom heart mother" sounds like the studio version and "If" is not too shabby. This Roio MUST be had!

The CDR's were very poorly burned & took attempts in 7 different drives before a clean EAC rip was obtained.

OU Comment: Carefully Obscured Sun Echoes Dark Moon Days. The sound quality on this jewel more than makes up for the idiotic title.
Only 500 copies made. IMO the best of all the '73 recordings.
Additional: My friend purchased this from Ebay in 2002 on CDR, I EAC ripped it in March 2010 > Flac for the express
purposes of sharing it on Yeeshkul,Info txt & Art from PF-DB,com, EAC Log, MD5 & CD scans by me. Although the CD's are CDR's the printing on the reverse seems to very professional as they aren't regular printable CDR's,yet the Front & Rear art look like inkjet prints As the choice to put this into flac rather than original shn was mine I have also included the Wav's in the MD5 (no md5 held by PF-DB)

A Few Extra

ikarajat_elokuvat_11
Hey Good Morning Friends!
I tossed in an extra boot today and I wanted to let you know of my plans to close out the month tomorrow with an extra boot and there will be five boots posted over the weekend.

This remains a fun endeavor thanks to your kind responses and interactions. I am approaching 3500 boots to date (not even counting the hundreds that were removed!).

You guys and gals (presumably/hopefully) continue to encourage me often at just the right time.

The Best to You!
Dave

Elvis Presley: Studio Outtakes (FLAC

EP-Front

Flac Images + Cue & Log

Superb Sound
“24 Carat Gold is Elvis Presley at his best. And we all know how good that is. 24 Carat Gold is a wonderful document of the period where Elvis had returned from the Army and was getting back into the swing of things, supplemented with some late sixties movie outtakes. It's a two CD set, the first contains complete and near-perfect takes, mainly from the Nashville recording sessions, the second consists of several outtakes of some of the same songs. Right at the beginning, with the two snare drum hits that start up Fame And Fortune, it becomes clear that this CD set is a special one. The sound quality is absolutely stunning, and although take 5 is quite similar to the released version, it's like hearing Fame And Fortune for the very first time. Next is take 2 of Gently, with Elvis almost singing bass during the verses, desperately looking for that low note. Needless to say, eventually, he gets it. The breathtaking sound quality and track selection make this an essential double CD.”

Review: This is a near perfect soundboard recording that is good enough quality to be an official release. The show is amazing and deserves a place in even the smallest Dylan collection. If one should pick it apart for the minor irregularities, it would be that while the cover aesthetics are nice, some may find the purple on purple type a bit difficult to read. Also, as the original recording was obviously analog, there is slight tape hiss evident in the high-end. To some ears, this hiss is an undesirable noise. These are the same folks who argue the benefits of digital recording over analog. This problem was eliminated five years earlier on the Swingin' Pig release: 'Now Ain't the Time for Your Tears

NOTE: There appears to be trouble with this one. I will look into it over the weekend. Hold tight.

Grand Ol' Opry: Armed Forces Radio Transcription Discs (FLAC)

Radio_-_Keep_It_Free
Grand Ol' Opry Armed Forces Radio Transcriptions
Original Aluminum Platter / Shellac > DAT > CDR > EAC > WAV > TRACKING > FLAC

OU: A friend who's Father works for WSM suprised me with a rare batch of Transcripts
of radio shows recorded and pressed to Disc and sent abroad to Armed Forces radio for rebroadcast to the soldiers at war.
These were drawn from the original aluminum stampers and shellac discs. The quality is not by any means stellar. The raveges of time are obvious in certain places. What you do get are rare performances of the hits of the day by artists of the day. All are from center stage of the Rhyman Auditorium, The Grand Ol' Opry.... live from Music City, Nashville Tennessee.
I have been researching these all day and find no indication that they ever were released comercially at any time.
My guess would be that these recordings by virtue of song release date are all circa the Viet Nam era. That's about as close as it can be guessed, other than it was a Saturday night....
Here we go, step back in time to being a lonely soldier on foreign soil serving his country, and tuning in the radio to hear a little bit of home.
...pure hillbilly heaven....

OU: Missed the start of Saori Jo, as I was still drinking in the bar, which is a shame as she was very good on the 30 minutes I watched. Ian, Martin, Doane, David and John all guested on her set, and I didn't think to record it until near the end, so only have 17 minutes. The first track, which cuts in, has Ian on flute, and Doane on Drums. I have included the incomplete Saori Jo set.
Jethro Tull were in good form, with IA's voice reasonable on the night. The band members looked like they were enjoying themselves too. The setlist is evolving during the course of this tour probably due Ian's varying abilities: no two nights appear to be the same. Songs From The Wood has been dropped from the setlist already on this tour, as (seemingly) Ian had some difficulty with the vocals, although it was on the list in Aberdeen. Judge for yourselves.
A full house, and an appreciative crowd, although there was one drunk idiot at the back, who was eventually told to "shut the f*"K up.." by another audience member. Mercifully he did.
The acoustics at the (circa 1858) Music Hall are designed for classical concerts, so noise from the back carries to the front unfortunately, and is picked up by the MD recorder. A lot of reverb.
Getting the recording level right proved tricky also, and some clipping has occured. On recent tours Doane's drumkit has been located behind a perspex screen; not so at the Music hall!
The band didn't take the customary pee-break, and played a continuous set. This meant a lot of movement between songs, with people shifting along the rows of seats to visit the cludgie. I had to allow several to pass in front of me.
This caused the microphone to rotate in the socket, only noticable at at Ian's intro to Fat Man.
I have the song introduction included at the beginning of the track rather than the end of the previous track. I also missed around 10 seconds at the start of Dun Ringhill - I had switched the recorder off after the support act!
Artwork included. This will be a 2 disc set, so disc 2 starts with Bug.
Enjoy and share freely. Cheers,

Pink Floyd: Live in London 1980 (MoLM Release) shn

M-U-S-T Have
wall1
Man of Leisure Music (MoLM) on WRPI 91.5 FM
Broadcast Thursday, August 5th, 2004
from 8pm to 10pm

Live broadcast of the lowest generation version ever made available of the finest audience recording of the Wall ever recorded.

Pink Floyd: The Wall, Live in London
Venue: Performed at Earl's Court
Date: Wednesday, August 6th, 1980 at 8:00pm

This was the 15th 0f 31 Wall concerts, and the third night of six Earls Court Wall performances that ran from August 4th through August 9th, 1980.
The five final Wall concerts were also performed at Earls Court, running from June 13th through June 17th, 1981.

TITLE: The Show Must Go On
Label: Distributed by Man of Leisure Music (MoLM) www.manofleisuremusic.com, from 1st
generation clones of the Master CDRs, first broadcast live on WRPI 91.5 FM 05Aug04.
SQ: A/A+ 1st quality audience recording

Source Information: It is with a huge amount of gratitude to the taper, who reached out to MoLM and shared this true gem, in a trade for other rare PF roios. The source audio CDs that were broadcast are 1st gen clones of the master discs. The broadcast was recorded back onto a PC and converted to SHN using mkwACT.
The original analog recording was made with a Technics single point stereo microphone covered with a black sock and a Sony stereo cassette recorder onto a TDK 120 tape. Somehow, the taper was able to get hisgear into the arena with a knapsack!

Comments from the taper: "I was seated to the left of the stage, half way back, and used a Technics Single Point Stereo Microphone with the Sony TC153SD Cassette deck, which was quite a hefty machine in those days. I used the same equipment to record the last Wall show (17Jun81), where I sat right at the back, so that recording was a bit more distant than the August 1980 show."

So if my understanding is correct: This was a bootleg-remastered by the taper himself-and actually played over the air.

OU: It's A Beautiful Day recorded over 3 nights opening for the Yardbirds (Cecil Taylor was also on the bill). I've spent a lot of my trading life putting together complete nights and or stands at the Fillmore West. It was an incredible time for music and one of the few times you can find such a wide range of bands on the same bill (where else could you find Black Sabbath opening for Love)! Anybody have the Yardbirds sets from this stand? Seems to not exist...
This is a nice 3 night stand, all are excellent soundboard quality with only slight tape hiss.

Nine Inch Nails: Demo Version of Pretty Hate Machine 1988 (Studio) FLAC

R-532512-1128383244
Purest Feeling is a bootleg of the original demo version of Nine Inch Nails' debut album, Pretty Hate Machine, that was recorded at the Right Track Studio in November 1988 by Trent Reznor, whilst he was still working as a cleaner there. It was released as a CD in 1994 by Hawk Records.
The sound is brighter (and in some cases happier) than that of the final versions on Pretty Hate Machine; several songs feature more drumming and guitar work throughout, as well as a heavier use of samples from films. "Kinda I Want To" is reminiscent of early house music. "Twist" is an early version of "Ringfinger", featuring different lyrics and less use of sample loops. The entire album has segues leading each track into the next.
Purest Feeling also features the full lyrics cut from the final versions of songs later released on Pretty Hate Machine; Reznor chose to print the full lyrics in the Pretty Hate Machine booklet to retain some of the original meanings of his songs.

OU: Now About This Tape This is Not Taken from the highland CD Version of this show i recieved this in a trade in the early 80s from a trader in philadelphia i got this as the date of the 2nd (afternoon show) the trader i got it from stated it was from the 2nd now over the years. it has gone under the 3rd (has with the highland release) ive looked on the net for ticket stubs and have found two from the 2nd (early & late) and one from the 3rd now gabriel does say good afternoon after watcher so i take it highland have it wrong its from the 2nd not the 3rd now the twist a few years ago a trader told me he went to the shows in upper derby and told me that he remembers one was on the saturday & one was on the sunday and the one he went to on the saturday he is sure was the afternoon show, which does make this the 2nd. But i have also been told that this is incorrect has the early show on saturday was cancelled & resheduled for the sunday afternoon with the tickets for the saturday afternoon show valid for the sunday afternoon so if anyone can comfirm the correct date it would be much appreciated
Now to the goods
All i have done in wave editor is split the tracks & fade in fade out at beginning & end of cds

OU: I drove 3 hours to see this show and was not dissapointed! They can still rock. The Cleveland audience was great. I was on the floor (GA standing) about 2 feet in front of the soundboard. The recording came out very well mainly due to the fact that it was a small club abd people around me were fairly quiet. I would suggest that you crank up this show when you listen to it ... you will feel like you are right there in the audience :-) This show is ONLY to be traded freely - never bought or sold. And lastly, ENJOY!!! (thanks Warciple!)

Ever have one of those gigs where nothing goes right?
I did this night!.......was late getting to the venue so missed the first song from Joe Perry....Set the Zoom to record at level 80 thinking the sound wasnt that loud...how wrong i was...the music has recorded fine but the vocals are suffering from clipping here and there......
As I was seated at the end of the row in Block C around 6 rows from the front of the stage I thought when Bad Company come on I will have a great position to record....Imagine my surprise when a member of the venue security team came and stood right beside me.....for the whole gig!!!!
I managed to press play and stuck the Zoom in my pocket not wanting to take a chance on checking the recording levels in case he noticed....again this recording too suffers fron "Clipping" on the vocals!
Have tried to clean this up using Magix EQ and Limiter....It's OK but could've been so much better - I just hope somebody else managed to record it!
I am going to put these shows on for all to listen too.....If anybody can clean them up....Please do!

This is a great show but not a great recording. Following is Gerald Sparaco's excellent review from bootreview:

The tape for Zeppelin's only show in Memphis on their spring, 1970 tour is a good, almost complete mono audience recording. The taper hits the pause button between all of the songs to save tape but this also eliminates Plant's between song talking. It is a shame since according to him they have been wanting to play in Memphis since "before we were born" and it would have been great to hear his reaction to playing in the birthplace of rock and roll. The tape first surfaced with two tracks on the well-known Maui Wowie (ML-006/7) hoax on the Missing Link label along with the September 19th afternoon tape from New York being passed off as a Hawaii tape. The first releases of the complete concert were on two releases from the mid nineties Memphis (NEP-001/2) on Neptune and Memphis 1970 on Zoso. Most recent release was on Memphis Underground on Magnificent Disc (MD-7001 A/B). The short lived label tried to improve the tape through excessive remastering but managed to ruin it with the crunchy metallic sound smudging the music and creating an unbearable mess. Empress Valley, on the simply titled Memphis Tennessee 1970, also improved the sound quality but without the effects of past labels and have produced a very nice version.
The only defect found on this release is the left channel disappearing during "White Summer". It reappears again six minutes into the track, but its presence is a strange. Overall this is one of the best concerts played on this spring tour. Empress Valley kept the taper's introduction about going to the Zeppelin concert and this is followed by a DJ speaking about giving away an autographed copy of their albums before the band hit the stage. "We're Gonna Groove" is the opener and t he band hit a slower, funky groove in the middle of the song. "I Can't Quit You" was played as a second song on the opening dates but had been dropped by this time and they follow with "Dazed & Confused". "Heartbreaker" includes the spacey introduction. "White Summer" is more than twelve minutes long and is a masterpiece. It includes versions of "Bron-Y-Aur" as well as the strumming that can be heard in the Bron-Y-Aur cottage demos as well as t he descending riff from "Kashmir" at 11:20 into the piece. Jones' organ solo before "Thank You" is a bit different in Memphis. He plays the ice-skating rink music before getting into a bit of a Dieterich Buxtehude style sonata before leading the band into "Thank You". The tape shows some signs of deterioration during that track.
"How Many More Times" is very long in this show and contains their only known version of "Memphis Tennessee" in celebration of playing there. "Mess O' Blues", which was also played in Florida on this tour, will be a regular inclusion in the 1971 "Whole Lotta Love" medleys. The song is halted several times for Plant to calm the audience down and begging them to not stand on the chairs in order to save Grant from being shot! A surreal version of "Whole Lotta Love" is the encore and the tape ends with the taper recording his closing comments about the greatest concert he has ever seen. As good and clear as this tape is, it really makes one wish a better and more complete recording were to surface someday to truly enjoy it. The artwork is very simple yet effective with several photos from the actual tour. It is printed on regular dull paper instead of the glossy paper usually utilized by this label giving this a common and austere look but also very attractive. This release, along with Just The Crowd And... and Young Person's Guide, are from a more budget conscious Empress Valley. The label had a similar conscious several years ago by releasing some titles with the "Lifetime Achievement" sticker at a reduced price and have occasionally issued titles that are priced to own. Given the affordability of this release and the scarcity of good releases of this tape Memphis Tennessee 1970 is recommended. (GS)
Enjoy!
