OU: When I think of memorable concerts, Dan Fogelberg’s 1979 solo performance at St. John’s University (LBTS VOL 21) is high on my list. When Dan appeared five years later with a full band in the cavern known as Madison Square Garden, I didn’t think there was any possibility that he could approach the magic of that special performance. I was wrong. From my fifth row seat, I witnessed Dan Fogelberg transform MSG into an intimate theater. The Garden was more than cooperative and produced what was probably the best sound I have ever heard in that building.

OU: Here is a really nice-sounding vintage Eagles show that I grabbed pretty recently from Lossless Legs. Since I felt the tracking on the version I downloaded from LL could be better than it was, I decided it would be better to offer my somewhat "cleaned-up"/re-tracked version. However, please note that this version does NOT attempt to alter the sound quality with any equalizing...I'll leave that up to you since that's a matter of personal taste. If anything, it may lack a little bit of low end, but for a 1975 audience recording, I think it sounds awesome as-is and doesn't really need to be equalized.
Huge thanks to Rob Berger for sharing this show at Lossless Legs, and huge thanks as well to the late Jerry Moore for the recording.

Additional lineage:
* Converted original FLACs to WAV files with FLAC Frontend
* Using Nero's wave editor, I trimmed 48 seconds of extraneous tuning and chatter at beginning of show and applied a small fade-in to Track 101
* Applied a small fade-out to the applause at the end of Track 203 (since the applause was cut on the source) and removed a second of tape squeak at the beginning of Track 204 and applied a small fade-in
* Applied a longer fade-out to the final applause on Track 209
* Combined WAV files in Nero's wave editor and re-split tracks with CD Wave
* Converted WAV files back to FLAC using FLAC Frontend (SBE-aligned)
Additional notes:
* The original FLAC files had "Journey Of The Sorcerer", "Too Many Hands" and "Already Gone" on Disc 1--they were moved to Disc 2 in order to balance-out the running times between both discs. And besides, there was a cut in the applause at the conclusion of "Midnight Flyer"...I "smoothed out" the cut by applying a small fadeout to the applause after "Midnight Flyer" (using Nero's wave editor).
* I also included a small subfolder on the late Jerry Moore, the legendary taper who recorded this show.

Dan Fogelberg: New York 1979 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

The Lostbrook Tape Series - Volume 21

OU: I was well known as a taper at my college radio station, and when I volunteered to work as an usher for this concert, my DJ friends were quick to laugh and point out that I wouldn’t be able to tape the show. I played along as if this were an unsolvable dilemma, muttering that I had made a big mistake and would have to sacrifice one for my school. In reality, it was one of my easiest taping experiences. There was no risk of being caught at the door, and I was able to keep the Sanyo hidden backstage while I did some ushering. Well before show time, I gave the recorder to a friend who conveniently had an aisle seat in my section. I spent most of the concert sitting on the steps next to my friend, holding my recorder, occasionally handing it off to do something “usherly.” In the end, I produced one of my finest tapes and had the last laugh at the radio station when I walked in the next morning and pressed “play.” I strongly recommend this tape, especially to those who might think that Dan Fogelberg’s music was a little too “soft” or middle of the road. This is an amazing solo performance by a brilliant songwriter and one of my favorite tapes.

Nice sounding cd with the High Country band for second half of show. This is the full version from Westwood one intro. to Westwood one outro. It includes the FULL version of "Will the Circle Be Unbroken"
This was a great tour and as Dan has said in his rare interviews one of his favorites.
A highpoint being his appearance at the Telluride Bluegrass festival the same summer.
Fortunately both this and Telluride are available in HQ sound. that being said....
This is a condensed concert made for "Westwwood one in concert" From Part of the plan through Old Lang syne it is Dan solo. From Down the road to Will the Circle be Unbroken is Dan and the band. ENJOY!
