Recorder: JVC stereo radio receiver & cassette deck
BASF ferro super LH I 90 Master cassette (no dolby) - Yamaha KX-800 stereo cassette deck - Philips 880 cd recorder - cdr - .wav - flac

OU: This version probably has not circulated before, but I am not sure. At least it hasn't been delivered in this quality. I transferred the master using Yamaha deck (adjusted azimuth too) some years ago. Sound quality on this recording is excellent stereo, too bad I didn´t have enough money to buy chromiumdioxide cassettes. Anyway, that´s what it is; I´ve never heard a better recording of this show, altough I am sure someone must have one.
I remember watcing the show and noticing something had changed comparing to the year 1984. Personally I preferred the earlier version of Double Trouble, without the keyboards. Stevie Ray also looked like under the influence -more than before. Not that I mind, it was his business. Just the impression I got.
The set was short (if any more songs were played, there is no information) but quite soulful, Stevie was probably ready to rock & roll just when he was told to quit playing, since they were closing the club..
This recording is 39 minutes, and that´s all that was broadcasted then (& ever):

Another great show taking place outdoors at the Zoo Amphitheater, arriving early always yielded a great taping location. For this show I was not only able to get a prime location but was able to distance myself from the main crowd so you get little to no crowd noise.
The sample below of "Come On (Pt. III)" will give you a good indication of the crowd noise level which is pretty much zero. The only issue with the show is a splice during "Life Without You", one song led into the other and I just couldn't make it without a tape flip in the middle. Other than that you will find this a great performance of very, very nice quality with no other issues.
I thought about waiting until the 20th Anniversary of the show but this is a fresh transfer with better software than any of my previous transfers and I had it ready to go so figured what am I waiting for...

Notes: Power Station rehearsals Vol. 4 commmonly known as the Soul To Soul Sessions. There maybe be a vol. 1 and 2 but as of this time they can not be located from this source. This maybe complete and just mislabeled but that information is currently unknown. This is the first of 8 90 minute tapes consisting of Volumes 3 through 10. These rehearsal tapes have been circulated for years on various bootlegs and low gen tape sets but this set should be an upgrade in sound quality to all existing copies. These recordings were done over a week or so period in March of 1985 at the old Power Station studios (currently named Avatar Studios) in Manhattan. All track titles and dates taken almost verbatim from the j-card with each cassette.

Description: This rehearsal is the day before the one that commonly circulates, so this dates April 26, 1983. It differs from the other session (with the 'Hey Ricky' version being the definitive one) because the banter is different before Look Back In Anger. Prior to the 27th surfacing, this was the definitive 1983 rehearsal tape, and yes, it does include Stevie Ray Vaughan. Although the quality is slightly less than the 27th, this is still a soundboard, with very respectable sound. As a historical monument, it is no less significant. Enjoy!!

Comments (from Willmot's page): Very good sound quality, possibly from a soundboard source. The sound mix is good but the crowd noise and guitar are on one side with the bass and drums on the other. Overall, the sound is excellent compared to the first volume (above) even if the voice and bass guitar are slightly saturated. Great show!

"The Legendary Lost First Stevie Ray Vaughn Album"
The one and only surviving test pressing was recently discovered in a cupboard in South Austin, Texas where it had lain for the last 19 years, all other recordings of the project have been destroyed after alleged contractual disputes arose. These recording, notable for their raw energy and rare slide guitar work are essential for all true collectors. Also featuring four early arrangements of songs that later appeared on the Texas Flood album.
Due to the brevity of the Nashville '78 session the producers have added a live soundboard recording featuring Lou Ann Barton and three tracks featuring Johnni Reno on saxophone."
The above paragraph is the supposed story behind this recording as told on the cd inlay. The real story is that the band didn't like the way the album turned out and paid a large sum of money to keep it from being released. As you would expect, someone got their hands on a copy and bootlegged it.

To complete the summer portion of the "In Step" tour, Stevie Ray Vaughan and Double Trouble played two shows on August 25 & 26 at Alpine Valley Music Theatre in East Troy, WI, while on tour with Eric Clapton.
For travel to the next venue, the tour manager reserved four helicopters to circumvent congested highway traffic. In very dense fog, the helicopters were clear for lift off at 12:40 A.M. Just past the lift-off zone was a 300-foot hill. Vaughan's helicopter pilot was unfamiliar with the flight pattern for exiting the area, and did not climb to sufficient altitude immediately after take-off. Vaughan's helicopter veered off to one side and crashed into the hill.

According to the findings as reported by the National Transportation Safety Board, the cause of the accident was determined to be inadequate planning by the pilot, and failure to attain sufficient altitude to clear an obstacle. Fog and haze, as well as the rising terrain were listed as contributing factors. All occupants including Vaughan, the pilot and three members of Eric Clapton's travel group were killed on impact.
