Robin Trower: St Louis 1980 (Pre-FM Vinyl) FLAC

RTstlouisFr
Victims Of The Fury Tour, live at Kiel Opera House, St Louis, Missouri; March 26, 1980. Excellent pre-FM stereo (”The Source” NBC Radio Network Pre-FM Double LP Transcription Set).
Lineage: Vinyl > Unknown Needledrop > WAV > FLAC
Thanks to Hipstone for sharing the tracks at Demonoid.

Here is some background from luciferburns: After touring extensively all through 1977 and, for that matter, for the past five years, Robin Trower decided to take a break. No “live” shows were preformed in 1978 or 1979. That’s not to say he didn’t keep busy. His 6th solo release (not counting the “Live” album), “Caravan To Midnight”, was released in 1978. But no tours took place to promote “Caravan To Midnight”. And, to the best of my knowledge, no songs have ever been performed live from it to this very day!
So after this two-year break, Robin came bouncing back with the lineup trimmed back to a trio. Gone was Rustee Allen on bass and James Dewar returned to his original role as the band’s bassist. Robin Trower’s 7th solo release, “Victims Of The Fury”, was a huge success and probably his best-selling release since “Bridge Of Sighs”. Again he toured extensively through the UK and USA. Unfortunately, for some reason after the “Victims Of The Fury” tour, Robin Trower would once again take a long absence from touring… until 1984!

01 Lady Love
02 The Ring
03 Day of the Eagle
04 Bridge of Sighs
05 Jack and Jill
06 Too Rolling Stoned
07 The Shout > Hannah
08 Daydream
09 Victims of the Fury
10 Mad House
11 Little Bit of Sympathy
12 Messin' the Blues
13 Rock Me Baby

OU Notes: Mastered from Pre-FM 2xLP transcription set. Editing, indexing and very light pop and click removal by hipstone. No filtering, EQ, or any other processing.
Please support Robin and the band by purchasing their officially relaesed material.
Many thanks to hipstone who posted this at demonoid. There was no original text document in the fileset.

Frank Zappa: Albuquerque 1980 (VG Aud) FLAC

zappa80-nm-fr-h
"Duke City Debut"
Johnson Gym
Albuquerque, NM, USA
1980-10-12
Featuring Jimmy Carl Black (The Indian Of The Group)

CONTRAST CLAUSE: This is not the same as the DrZap version uploaded previously, which has fallen off the tracker. This recording is from a different taper in a different location.
The DrZap version is binaural, while this version is mono. The DrZap version is very clean, but is lacking somewhat in the low end. This version, while not as clean, is still very good, with better low end. Both tapers were using C-90 cassettes, as evidenced by the fact that both versions have a tape flip during "City Of Tiny Lights". DrZap's flip occurs during a lyric, and is missing a line or two. This version was flipped a bit earlier, during an instrumental portion of the song. The splice in this version is virtually un-noticeable.
See notes below for more mastering details.

Original recording: Sony mono cassette recorder (built-in mic) > Master cassette > Nakamichi 500 > Revox A77 reel at 3.75 ips (Dolby B encoded by Advent 100A Processor)
Digital Transfer: Revox A77 (thru TEAC AN-80 Dolby Processor) > HHB 830 Standalone > CD
Mastered by Roddenberry on a dual processor 2-GHz Macintosh G5 with Sound Studio OS-X2.1.1

Artwork created by Roddenberry using my photos from the show. Due to my mistakes to him, a couple of minor errors in artwork, corrected below.

OU NOTES: Recorded by Wes M. from 3rd Row (artwork incorrectly states 6th row), slightly left of center aisle. Disc 2, Track 15 is incorrectly listed on artwork as "Sofa" (my mistake again).
"...Ship Arriving Too Late..." and "...Dangerous Kitchen" were performed as improvisations, with Frank scatting the lyrics from a 3-ring binder. He had not yet written the music that would complete the songs. Early in the recording, you will hear an issue with Security when there was a ticket mix-up. It's a wonder that no one saw the recorder during all that.
There is some distortion in the recording, either from the recorder's limiter circuitry or the mic's limits, but it's really not bad. If you only want one version of this show, I'd
say the DrZap version is the one to have, but this version has its merits as well. Perhaps someone might try to matrix this with the DrZap recording to create a definitive version.
I welcome any such attempt.
This was sent to me as FLAC files, and the files burned fine, but I checked before preparing this torrent and found SBE's, which were fixed using Trader's Little Helper. I then made new ffp files, and re-verified everything.

a this and that, masters of jazz - step torrent production - (master > wav > flac > torrent) Do not sell this recording. Share freely, losslessly and gaplessly.

OU comments: the radio announcer says the last song played was "straight life" although that song wasn't performed in this set.
the applause after one of a kind was spliced to make it a "seamless" recording where the tape was flipped. this recording was previously posted a couple of times from a CD made from the master tape. this one is a fresh transfer to avoid all CD lineage completely.

Straight FM > WAV transfer. Between track 11-12, was a hickup in the mixing. The intro Of Modern World started, then ended, and it started again. It sounded to me like a mixing failure, so I edtited it out.
Missing the following tracks
* But I'm Different Now
* Down In The Tube Station At Midnight

Bram Tchaikovsky: New York 1980 (FM) FLAC

front
Afternoon Live - 3:00 PM
Columbia Records Studios - New York, New York
6/11/80

Soundboard - FM Broadcast recorded and transfered by Progcd54
Lineage: FM Broadcast > Cassette > Standalone > CD-RWin > HD > Cool Edit Pro 2.0 > Flac

OU: This is a great sounding show. I recorded this directly from the FM broadcast over 25 years ago. After transfering it to CD-R, I did some minor hiss reduction and equalization to improve the sound in Cool Edit Pro 2.0. ENJOY!!

1. Strange Man, Changed Man
2. Lonely Dancer
3. Girl Of My Dreams
4. Mr. President
5. Let's Dance
6. Hollywood Nightmare
7. Pressure

All credit for this show making it to you goes to Progcd54. I'm so happy to be able to help get this out, but it wouldn't be possible without the real source. You've done a really great thing by sharing the music. It sounds incredible!

Peter Gabriel: New York 1980 (VG+ Aud) FLAC

The Lostbrook Tape Series - Volume 98
Peter Gabriel 1980-07-07 New York, NY-fr
July 7, 1980
The Dr Pepper Central Park Music Festival
Wollman Rink, New York, NY, USA

OU: Some concert venues evoke memories of an entire era. When I think of summertime concerts in the 1970's, Wollman Rink is such a place for me. I have vivid memories of waiting all day in the hot sun on lines that snaked their way along the walking paths of Central Park. Meeting like-minded people who wanted to sit close to the stage was part of the experience.
I have no idea why I sat in the cheap seats this day since all the tickets were inexpensive to begin with. The orchestra must have been sold out, but it worked out for the best. The sound was crisp and clear where I sat, Gabriel was magnificent, and the tape is one of my best. I'll never forget the blood red sunset reflecting off the boulders outside the rink as the crowd chanted along with "Biko." This was my last concert at Wollman Rink, and, sadly, the only one I ever recorded there. When the festival moved to Pier 84 the next year, I didn't follow. For me, it was one more sign that an era had ended.

transfer - mcchocchoc / jbk

OU: This is the Late Show from the second night (two nights in a row, two shows each night). The recording is a bit "hot", but the sound is still pretty excellent. I hadn't listened to this tape for many years because my copy ran very, very fast. I am happy to share this speed corrected version, as this is a great show. The band is raging and Don is also really "on" here. The vocals are awesome. Don is intense in his delivery, getting more into it as the show progresses. The vocal fade out at the end of 'Doctor Dark' here is incredible. The room is silent and Don really kills it ! Following that amazing, fading finish quickly Don starts 'Bat Chain Puller' with a roar. Very cool. The band intros follow Bat Chain Puller.
After 'Sheriff Of Hong Kong' Don wishes everybody a Merry Christmas and even shouts a "Ho Ho Ho Ho Ho"! This is another show in which Don is very chatty and quite funny.
Interesting start here, Eric plays the Hair Pie Bass solo all the way through and then he starts it up again as Don joins in on Sax. They finish that and eventually Don plays a tape recording of himself through the mic. After that they play Hair Pie again ( bass and sax only ) !
Last year the Late Show from the first night was shared out here. Let's hope the Early shows do the same.
Aside from the occasional out of tune guitar, this is one of the better performances by the 80/81 band! A very enjoyable listen. Have fun. Much thanks to the taper and all of my old trading friends. March 06, 2011.

April Wine: Reading University 1980 (Pre-FM) FLAC

by request
label_a
Reading University, England 1980
Lineage-ORIGINAL BBC Radio Service reel to reel tape>Computer hard drive>wav files>flac

OU: This is from an ORIGINAL BBC radio service reel to reel tape of the "BBC Rock Hour", as was originally sent to radio stations for airplay. I transferred it straight to computer hard drive using a Sony TC-730 machine. I used Soundforge to capture and process the incoming audio at 44.1khz sampling rate. I resisted the temptation to EQ any of the audio files, so they're right off the tape, unmolested.
There doesn't seem to be a lot of April Wine shows around, so enjoy this! Don't be a dick and repost somewhere else in lossy format.

1) Hot On The Wheels Of Love
2) Right Down To It
3) Oowatanite
4) Get Ready For Love
5) I Like To Rock
6) Ladies Man
7) 21st Century Schizoid Man
8) Roller
9) Don't Push Me Around
10) Better Do It Well
