Doom Charts Top 100 Albums of 2024

Doom Charts Top 100 Albums of 2024

It has arrived!

The Doom Charts Top 100, expertly tallied by Remi VL and voted for throughout the year by all those crazy Contributors!

100 amazing albums from the Heavy Underground, (out of a total list of 2083 albums) and I can honestly say, once again, that I love'm all... Perhaps one or two a bit less and a heap a bit more... Cause the albums that are listed as 101 to 200 are stunning as well! Insane, the amount and the quality!

They're all freaking stunning pieces of art!  🤘

Congratulations to Psychlona for taking the top spot...

Read our thoughts on their Warped Vision album.

Or read that weird little chat we had with Psychlona founder Phil Hey.

Started the Top 100 rundown with Lucifer's Lucifer V album!

You doing that as well? Or using the Spotify or Tidal playlist?

Lucifer, the right kind of spark to get all that heavy underground fire a burning!

And get lit on the entire Top 100!

The Doom Charts for December 2024

DOOM CHARTS

DECEMBER 2024

“I’ll have what the Doom Charts having.”

~ Probably misheard quote from When Harry Met Sally…

Happy New Year to one and all! May 2025 bring you all you need! And may the Doom Charts continue to feed your needs in Heavy Underground music. Cause that’s what we hope to do, every month again. And in a week or two we shall put up the Top 100 for 2024. The Doom Charts way of looking back at the entire year that has come and gone. But first we have December to enjoy! Which will always be a weird month. Less albums are released in that month. And there is a lot of looking back and making lists about the music released in the year almost finished. And there are a few Contributors off on holiday, taking a break or too busy with that year-end-stuff. Which makes December a volatile month; but o’ so lovely! For there were still 190 albums that received votes and below you can visit the Top 40 of that list. And those 40 are all there for a reason! Their need to produce the good stuff that will feed all of our needs!

Mustard, meal... You get the deal... Due to the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown, New Year and loads of other stuff we have forgotten to post about the December 2024 Doom Charts. But since we are a bit autistic in that respect, we still want to get the word out about those 40 albums before we get the word out about the 100 Best Albums of 2024 according to the Doom Charts... So here, it is, the December 2024 Doom Charts!

Welcome to Doom Charts, representing some of the finest bloggers, journalists, radio, podcasters and reviewers from the heavy underground around the globe.  Each month, our critics submit their picks for the best new doom, sludge, metal, stoner, psychedelic and heavy rock albums.  The results are compiled and tabulated into the chart below.  This is a one-stop shop for the best new albums in the world…

Joop Konraad – Personal Top 20 of 2024

Joop Konraad – Personal Top 20 of 2024

As with everyone else I guess, my Personal Top 20 for 2024 keeps changing. It evolves, it morphs, it grows. Cause every day I discover another amazing album released in 2024. Every day! Ever since Stoner HiVe started in 2009 the amount of great releases in our little Heavy Underground niche is mind boggling. And every year the amount seems to be growing. So, I present to you my current Top 20. O' and all the albums I also thoroughly loved this year in a massive list of some 140 albums in alphabetical order. Tony Maim – Personal Top 22 of 2024

Tony Maim – Personal Top 22 of 2024

Madman Tony Maim graced us with his list for the Top 20 Countdown early on after which I asked him if it would be the same one I could put up as his Personal list for the Stoner HiVe Team Members. Cause yes, he did write one review as well for the HiVe in 2024. And guess what we got a surprise email from him last week with his first review for this year and an optimistic remark that he hopes to do a few more! Awesome! Like the rest of the team he’s involved with the Doom Charts. And as we mentioned before, he’s got his own Black Insect Laughter blog, which he unfortunately had little time for last year as well. And what about that music that’s pouring out of his mad brain. Guitars On Drugs, which released DubFuzz in 2022. Always diligent when it comes to punk and noise and sending his list for the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown. Well, it’s Madman Tony Maim; and he’s right, we’re wrong. And when the Madman speaks, we listen! So, here's his choice list of 22 favorite albums of 2024! And below his list... That one mad review!

Kyle SB – Personal Top 20 of 2024

Don't forget it's almost January 6! Why you ask? Cause it's his birthday then! We congratulate him in advance and even more so with the amazing work he has been doing with his own PR company called Good Boy PR! We can also congratulate him with his Personal Top 20! And Kyle SB (formerly know as Shasta Beast) is also part of the Doom Charts, where he runs the Instagram page of the Doom Charts. A list that could also have featured many of the artists he did PR for, but for the sake of some form of weird fairness, he decided to refrain from listing those fine albums... But you can find those anyway by visiting Good Boy PR! And you should... Go check those out and the majestic list below and Let Slip the Dogs of Rock 'n Roll! Jon McGough - Personal Top20

The honorable Jon McGough was everywhere before he joined Stoner HiVe back in July. And then he also joined the Doom Charts and the cool Outlaws of The Sun! Where his list of favorite albums was published as well, with some 35 more! That's what I like to call, keeping yourself busy! And that's in between driving hundreds of miles to see a live show or churning out riffs and riffs and more riffs himself. Be sure to check out al his outputs everywhere and meet him in the cool Stoner Rock Army group on FB where he's a lieutenant to the General himself... Below is his list of Favorite albums and below that, the reviews he wrote for Stoner HiVe.

Stevie Reek - Personal Top 12 of 2024

Stevie Reek - Personal Top 12 of 2024

Reek of STOOM aka Stevie Reek's Personal Top 20 is here for you the peruse! It's a Dirty Dozen though and it's filled with albums all in tuned to his impeccable taste. It’s the best of the very best and the dirtiest of the dirties and contains everything one might hear on his very own Howls From The Hollow. Tune in and hear all that howling... Below his list you can see what reviews he wrote for the HiVe this year...

The Greatest Resurrection of All-Time! Nils Frykdahl and his Experimental troupe roll back the years and deliver something truly special! A dazzling, extraordinary melee of Invention which runs the gamut of genres through Avantgarde, RIO and beyond, with something new to focus on with every listen. Impeccable musicianship and cohesion throughout!
This is unquestionably deserving of a place! LOWEN's sound is unlike anything I've ever heard before. Nina and Shem have created an album that will resonate through Time, Culture and Metal Music - A powerful and apropos narration of Persian Folklore that fans of Doom, Stoner and World Music alike should embrace! Nina is in the form of her life here: The Metal equivalent of Ofra Haza!
A French Heavy Assault team wielding a sonic attack that would cripple a galaxy. "ILION" is the sound of a band who take the best of Space Rock and marry it with some of the hardest Sludge Metal and in doing so, create something special and unique!
A very creative French band fronted by an extraordinary vocalist! Impeccable Progressive Rock with hints of Post-Metal and a penchant for stunning virtuosity that your ears will thank me for!
Réunion is a small island in the Indian Ocean which is a territory of France and the French influence on this work is profound! Stunning Zeuhl in the vein of MAGMA, ESKATON & UNIVERS Zero with a nod to KING CRIMSON and Canterbury....Immaculate Musicianship and Vision!
Nicholas Turner, the twisted genius behind NIR returns with yet another magnificent display of dizzying, genre-morphing metal: "Acts Of Despair And Faith" highlights his signature guitar wizardry and ability to juxtapose elements of Raw Black Metal, Doom and Avantgarde compositions that simultaneously suck the listener into the void whilst propelling them into the star-filled Heavens! A triumph!
There is a Timeless Magick about this - an album that would sit well with ANY Krautrock of 1970: Ash Ra Tempel, Brainticket, Popol Vuh, Cosmic Jokers etc. The ebb and flow of the music, the subtle interplay between the Musicians, The Notes and the Concept is a delight to hear!  "The Golden Key..." establishes WHITE CANYON & THE 5TH DIMENSION as a Modern beacon for the genre!
Nick DeSalvo goes AWOL from ELDER and forges a delightful and singular slice of Prog/Krautrock that showcases his melodic mastery and incredible ability!
Australian Psychedelic leviathans THE SINSEMILLIAN return with "The Collective Consciousness": A sprawling, snarling lumber through six gargantuan slabs of grimace that run the gamut between Doom, Stoner, Sludge and Lysergic abandon. A crushing and magma-paced slither!
Dutch Guitar Wizard Tjeerd de Jong teams up with Cosmic Wordsmith Shane Beck to produce a shimmering, multi-layered slice of Heavy Psych. 8 stunning and vastly different compositions melding Heavy Psych, Poetry and Ambience to perfect effect!
Oranssi Pazuzu's sound is akin to a dark-tentacled Kraken ascending from the depths of the Mariana Trench to ensnare and terrify the unsuspecting voyager. As with all OP releases, they deftly defy convention and constantly reinvent themselves and "Muuntautuja" is no exception: Huge swathes of fearsome riffs with an Industrial edge which unfurl, capture and squeeze the essence from your soul. Magnificent!
This band makes me want to relocate to Belgium! Everything this weird incarnation produces is simply bizarre, uncompromising and utterly Brilliant!

Top 40 Most Scrobbled Artists of 2024

Top 40 Most Scrobbled Artists of 2024

Before we get going with the Personal lists… My own Personal Top 20, and the lists of the few crazies that write or do something for the HiVe whenever they have time and energy. We want to share the list of Most Scrobbled Artists of 2024... Cause yes, we still scrobble, we scrobble the shit out of a lot of stuff. And this list of scrobbles, is a list of scrobbles that does not include Youtube, Soundcloud, Spotify or Bandcamp. All of which we also use. Spotify very little. Youtube and Soundcloud a tiny bit… And Bandcamp quite a lot. We love Bandcamp! But here is a list of most scrobbled artists as scrobbled by a media player. One of those old school media players. That’s right, some people still use them! Simply because of digital promos sent and digital albums bought and downloaded. So, this isn’t the amount of vinyl listened or cd’s played. Nor is it the list of artists listened to, while on the road to nowhere in particular. Nope, this is a list of artists scrobbled while sitting fully clothed or stark naked behind a computer screen typing away and reaching auditory climax by all that heavy goodness scrobbled…

So, this is the 40 Most Scrobbled Artists of the total number of 923 artists scrobbled this way in the year 2024… With for the second year in a row on top… Ruff Majik!

1 Ruff Majik
2 Slomosa
3 Zeal & Ardor

4 High Noon Kahuna
5 Psychlona
6 Luna Sol
7 Orange Goblin
8 No Man's Valley
9 Sergeant Thunderhoof
10 Cobranoid
11 Sivert Høyem
12 Slift
13 Jegulja
14 Young Acid
15 Joan as Police Woman
16 Blue Öyster Cult
17 24/7 Diva Heaven
18 Dätcha Mandala
19 Scorched Oak
20 Warpstormer

21 Madrugada
22 Holy Tears
23 Skraeckoedlan

The Red Lantern

The Red Lantern

We haven’t been able to do a Red Lantern post every year. Cause the albums that earn the Red Lantern are only those on a sent in list of twenty entries, where they occupy the 20th position, and then only get voted for on that twentieth spot that one time. The years when this did not happen at all, we just invented the Bottom Dwellers post. And the reason why, remains the same. We just love the fact somebody out there loves these albums so hard they want other people to know about them. And we are here to help out! If only a tiny little bit.

So, since the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown is a weighted list and not every lovely freak out there sends in their list as a Top 20. Some send more, some send less. But we only count the albums that receive a Number 20 spot on any of the lists sent in as a contender for the Red Lantern. So this year, we have FIVE albums that received only one vote as a Number 20 spot on someone’s list.

A Swarm Of The Sun - An Empire

The Swedish duo is known for their contemplative post metal and thoughtful atmospherics. This is musical melancholy personified by post rock soundscapes so deep and so thorough that it will become this harrowingly beautiful dream. One that rests on the edge of the universe and a nightmare…

Momovudu – Momovudu

We wrote about Momovudu early December and you can read that HERE. "... They creep and crawl into every fiber of your being and will become the air that you breathe. You inhale and exhale along with the drums, the bass and feel so much relief as you float away with those guitar sounds. A sound so huge, dense, thick and pulsating, that the walls that surround you will seem to be alive, grow all sorts of greenery and extend ever more outwards..."

Red Mesa - Partial Distortions

The Red Mesa three hail from Albuquerque, New Mexico and deliver searing stoner metal with sludge tones and a definite nod towards NOLA. Progressive moments and powerful trucking takes these six tracks into a sonic space where the desert sky seems to be falling down...

Season Of The Witch - Vol. 2
