Badlands Festival

Badlands Festival

There’s a new Festival in town! Celebrating everything loud and gritty from yesteryear! Or better yet, the Counterculture from the sixties and seventies. Bringing back the punk, the psych, the garage and the feeling that all might be happening, right then and right there. The good vibes, the good stuff and everything surrounding the scene… You can strike sparks anywhere... Badlands Festival!

PR Wire:

Inspired by 60s and 70s countercultures, BADLANDS is where subcultures and free spirits meet. It’s 3 days out of the system and all about the love of music, vintage freedom machines, BMX and skate. But also food culture, alternative live music and some proper ink slinging. It’s for those who embrace the unconventional and keep it alive. It’s for those who don’t take themselves too seriously. It’s for the love of one another, and most importantly: for the love of one heck of a party. Mark yer calendars. 22, 23 & 24 August 2025. BADLANDS #1. Lottum (NL). Let’s roll.

BADLANDS is all about the love of choppers, music, BMX, skate and that surfin’ spirit. We’re talking food culture, alternative live music and some proper ink slinging. It’s for those who embrace the unconventional and keep it alive. It’s for those who don’t take themselves too seriously. It’s for the love of one another, and most importantly: for the love of one heck of a party.

It seems we have forgotten what festivals are really about: living life to the fullest while enjoying a bit of music, arts, and a whole lotta good company.BADLANDS is bringing it back to basics. No fancy gimmicks that’ll cost you an arm, a leg and then some. What you see is what you get. Good vibes and great times. 3 days out of the system and an alternative to the mainstream modern-day festivals.

There is so much more going on, on this festival… But this is the musical line-up so far!

Laura Palmer – Exploding Head Syndrome

Laura Palmer – Exploding Head Syndrome
Self-released / Aces High Promotion – 2024
Rock, Shoegaze, Alternative, Noise, Drone
Rated: ****

As we inch closer to the deadline for YOUR lists for the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown of 2024. Namely, before Saturday December 14th, 8.00 CET. We decided to deep dive into that folder full of albums we desperately had wanted to mention this year. We wrote about something like 250 albums and EP’s this year. But in that folder, there are still some 400 more that we had wanted to bring into your peripheral vision. And we are saddened that we will never get to that… But well, besides trying to keep up with all the new ones coming out, we’re now trying to bring into the spotlight one from every month passed that we unfortunately did not mention during the month they were released.

A January release graced the little old blog two days ago, A February release just yesterday and now logically follows a March release! Twelve years after their foundation they have finally released a debut album! This is Dutch trio Laura Palmer and the album is called Exploding Head Syndrome. Sure, there have been a few singles and EP’s since they started back in 2012, but this is their first full-sized release. It seemed to have made all the difference, for the sound matured and became this gritty shoegaze noir, alternative drone and all laced with a mysterious atmosphere. Fitting the bandname perfectly, bounded by early new wave, scarring post punk and nineties noise, the seven tracks excel whenever their riotous quality is allowed to unsettle. They challenge your mind with a risky adventure, a dream like stroll along an empty beach can turn into a wild feverish party without warning. It’s so good it might make your head explode!

Splinter – Filthy Pleasures

Splinter – Filthy Pleasures
Robotor Records – 2021
Rock, Garage, Stoner, Punk
Rated: ****

When we learned that the new outfit comprised out of members from Death Alley, Vanderbuyst and Birth Of Joy would be here to stay and were about to release their full-sized debut, we did a little dirty dance and jumped so high we bumped our head on the ceiling. They’re called Splinter, the album is called Filthy Pleasures and it’s one king hell garage rocking, stoner punking, maddening rock’n roll ride! Opening track Robot Hell is an easy going, yet smash ‘n grab attack on the senses, it will ignite your soul and get you ready for everything else that follows. Cause the garage, stoner and punk will morph into melodic hardrock with progressive touches and a seventies flourish as easy as it turns into an all out all night burner. That Hammond, that sweet sounding, heavy pounced Hammond, how it turns all that choppy and hooky hardrock noise into smooth curved jamboree! Cause even though will surely be moving smoothly to all of this whenever you spin the record, you will be sure to go nuts and possibly even insane when you catch them live! Just like the filthy Splinter four themselves!
