Back from the Island…

Back from the Island…

We returned yesterday from a family visit on the British Island… Wish was amazing, even though we had to mess the best line-up of Desert Fest Antwerp ever and Dirty Sound Magnet that played a venue near my home town. But we returned just in time to wish our very own Reek Of STOOM a very happy birthday. But not in time to be able to post that Most Listened To Last Week post we just did, but normally do on Monday. Dominated ofcourse by Maragda and Redscale! Those two album we were so honored to be able to do an International Premiere for. Both albums are stunning and I hope all of your went over to the blog and pressed play and now know that we are not just going overboard with the accolades again but that they really and truly are amazing…

And because Madman Tony Maim suddenly fired up his Black Insect Laughter blog again, we immediately went and checked out the albums he posted about. Like that manic Kowloon Walled City about which he wrote: “Kowloon Walled City have carved out an impressive slab of hardcore/sludge/noise rock that is full of dirty, distorted tunes of disgust, regret and thoughtful anger. Feeling slightly less chaotic than past records, the band are not scared to strip away walls of noise to reveal passages of stark intensity which rely on vocals and picked guitar to set the scene before blasting out a barrage of atmospheric noise and aggression. Great production has melded the instruments into a massive force that sounds unstoppable - if there is any justice in this shitty world, this is a body of work that stands out in an overcrowded genre and which other bands will be measured against.” So go check it out! And check Black Insect Laughter blog out, cause the Madman has scribbled down some other mad ravings about other albums as well!

World Wide Premier – Redscale – The Old Colossus

World Wide Premier – Redscale – The Old Colossus

Another premier? Why yes! Today we are extremely honored to bring you, the one day early, World Wide Premiere of the brand new The Old Colossus album by Berlin, Germany foursome Redscale! Out on Majestic Mountain Records you might have already read how smitten we are with said album. Cause we wrote a little blurb for that September Doom Charts Peroration and a tiny bit bigger mention for the HiVe a few days ago! “Indeed, it’s huge, it’s large, it’s stoner rock, it’s stoner metal and it’s damn freaking awesome!

Official bio stuff: Redscale is a heavy rock / stoner rock four-piece based in Berlin, Germany. Founded in 2015, Redscale released several records and brought their live shows to many stages. Redscale plays contemporary heavy rock. The powerful vocals are framed by collosseum-sized chordage, massive hooks and memorable melodies. Earlier releases are:

-    Under The Spell (2016)
-    Set In Stone (2017)
-    Feed Them to The Lions (2019, Karma Conspiracy Records)

And now, due out October 15th, 2021, through Majestic Mountain Records:

Redscale – The Old Colossus

Redscale – The Old Colossus
Majestic Mountain Records - 2021
Stoner, Hard, Rock, Metal
Rated: *****

They hail from Berlin, Germany and produce one of the most grooviest and weightiest stoner rock sounds to roll across the globe since their foundation back in 2015. Their new album is called The Old Colossus and continues on with that massive Redscale sound. Indeed, it’s huge, it’s large, it’s stoner rock, it’s stoner metal and it’s damn freaking awesome! We could stop talking right there and for the September Peroration of the Doom Charts we did. But here we will write a little more about the sincere love we feel for Redscale and their new The Old Colossus album. It starts with a serious bang called On The Run, which in turn starts with a serious bang as well. That drum work, that guitar tone, those riffs, that solo immediately in the beginning. Now here’s a band who knows how to get the thing started; and then the vocals kick in. Exactly gritty and raw enough they will pull you deeper into the track; which shifts and cracks as the rhythm changes and alters and winds and whips you into a frenzy. Offering release with that second chorus; a chorus that is so attractive and flawless that it has no difficulty pulling you even deeper. And that’s just all on that first opening On The Run track. And there are eight more for us to groove to; some a bit more languid and doomy, others a bit more progressive or full out stoner trucking and one acoustic effort that will definitely pull on a heartstring or two. Redscale outdid themselves once again with The Old Colossus.
