Vidaguerrilla – Major Destroyer Records presents…

Vidaguerrilla – Major Destroyer Records presents…
Major Destroyer Records – 2016
Rock, Fuzz, Noise, Experimental, Punk, Psych, Stoner
Rated: ****

We’ve been mentioning the good man of Vidaguerrilla in various Quick Fire Friday segments and that BuzZz feed thing we did. But when the new 7” arrived at our doorstep it felt only right to do something more. Simply called Major Destroyer Records presents…, the vinyl is brought to you by the record company in the title. Two sides, four tracks and all of them completely overladen with fuzz and with enough noise to fill your eardrums to the max. But it never starts to overrule the compositions. Which are clear but experimental. From it comes the vision of the true outsider. A righteous Howard Roark or a character from a Henri Barbusse novel. There are desires that stir in him and separates him sharply from other people. You can feel the confusion and the bewilderment. And still some form of contentment or perhaps acceptance. And that problem stems from that earthly vibe, cause even if the clamor is ever present you can feel its simple touch through it all. A last gunslinger if ever there was one…

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Do you feel the heat? No, it’s not the summer and its wonderful amount of rain! It is a Quick Fire Friday segment! One of those Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Friday segments that spreads the good word on all those great bands out there with just a few carefully chosen words. Are you ready? Do you have a bucket of ice water near you? Cause it’s is a steamy one!

Exoskelett – Grind Your Bones to Dust

It’s always a bit strange when one finds so much appealing about a black, thrash metal and grindcore release like Grind Your Bones To Dust. But perhaps that’s due to the fact that Exoskelett hails from Sweden. And we all know that there’s definitely something good about everything stemming from that country. In this case it’s the fact they slow down all those metal genres to something resembling doom and make it sound vintage. Really? No. Yes. Or well. Just give it a whirl and get your bones rattled!

Vidaguerrilla - Mexican Zombie Dancehall Vol.1

We’ve been mentioning Vidaguerrilla since the summer of 2014. From maddening garage to doom punk and everything in between. This time the man goes the blues route. One that seems to fit him even better. Cause Mexican Zombie Dancehall Vol.1 really is the grimy garage blues we all need to fill the summer carnival nights with. Honkey tonk blues for Dias De La Meurte…

Bandcamp

Derelics – Introducing

A three-song Introducing EP to introduce Derelics to the masses. Yes, the EP is called Introducing and that it does with glee and groove. Yikes, these guys got such a fine fuzzy groove going you immediately sit up and bounce along. With a more underlying harmonic approach to stoner and grunge; it is the wall of heaviness on which is surfs that impresses the most. Or better yet, the combination of the two and the righteous pedal-porn! Surfs up!

Vira – Vira

Italian experimental and instrumental progressive doom duo Vira released their first self-titled, three part, one song, twenty-three minutes lasting exploration of sound a few months ago. Founded after the sad demise of their former band Traum the new release is based on ancient Greek tragedies, where the character goes through three stages on their road to ruin. Baleful and full of slow moving build-ups, the eruptions are seen from far away, but still hit like a lightning bolt from the Gods. Are you ready to be struck?

Demons From The Dungeon Dimension – There Was Ogres

Last but not least on this Quick Fire Friday segment a first on the HiVe. A South-African doom metal adventure, brought to you by Demons From The Dungeon Dimension hailing from Durban. The scene is set by colorful and almost cheery yet also creepy guitar picking before the lurching and dragging itself forward like a dying beast begins. There Was Ogres is absolutely marvelous and truly epic in all its glory.

Stoner HiVe BuzZz Feed bandzZz

Stoner HiVe BuzZz Feed bandzZz

Another quick post about those band that are posted in the BuzZz chat feed on the right side of the page. Cause they do deserve attention! Not just because they made it over to the HiVe, no, because they rock hard and kick ass!

Tropical Doom – Tropical Doom

This Brazilian stoner and desert rock outfit definitely has something tropical about them. Now, don’t go envisioning hula girls and pineapples, cause they probably owe more to sandy hamburgers and lukewarm rum. They’re damn heavy and got this damn fine trucking speed to their songs. Think Queens Of The Stone Age or Fu Manchu, but with a very own definite twist. The Tropical Doom boys do their stoner well and don’t really bother with dooming that up, no, they stare at the sun, guzzle their drinks and party completely sunburnt like the night will never come!

Black (W)hole – Receive

Black (W)hole has been putting out experimental drone and noise instrumental since 2010. Each of them offering weird or majestic soundscapes that sometimes twist your brain and on other moments make you experience one of those lucid hangovers. This Austrian fella improvises his heart out and on occasion stumbles upon something smashing. Just imagine what he could do sober or with an entire band?

Vidaguerrilla – Hora de Aventuras

We mentioned Vidaguerrilla’s first release during a certain Quick Fire Friday segment. And since that faithful day the Spanish one man project released no less than six new efforts. Hora de Aventuras is its newest release. Insane fuzzed out punky doom that is as chaotic as it is crazy, with weird esoteric interludes and arcane soundscapes. It is almost impossible to follow, not unless you are wired into some kind of weird trip and have a truckload of speed at the ready…

Lizard Queen – Third Eye

Lizard Queen is a stoner metal project from Gorizia, Italy, born and raised by a member of the band DEEP in that most ugly year of 2013. With overtones of doom the entire album twists your head and curdles your blood. There is something occult and dangerous about it. Both please, please, do not judge the record by that first track. Even though the hellish howls fit the name Khan, it does not do justice to the quality displayed on the rest of the eleven songs. Grow a pair, or in fact, grow a third one!

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Finally, another edition of The Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Friday. A segment which is nothing more than a semi-weekly feature of a handful of bands and only a small amount of words to help spread their musical prowess and our melodic belief…

The Glorious Rebellion – The Glorious Rebellion

The glorious two track teaser released by The Glorious Rebellion has you on the edge of your seat or jumping like a madman. The anger and attitude is full force and compelling. And so is the stomping stoner sludge with an almost industrial punky edge. Ooh yes, keep an eye out for The Glorious Rebellion; produce some wicked flags and man the barricades once it’s released. Cause it’s going to sweep the nation!

Vidaguerrilla – About Music Not Fashion

This Spanish one man effort excels in aggressive maddening garage punk. On his album About Music Not Fashion, Vidaguerrilla blends fuzz, doom, garage, punk and metal. A fast paced and fast passing album that ends after twenty minutes. Most songs never or barely passing the two minute mark. Raw power indeed. Raw, gritty and filthy, like a skeleton party in a sewage system…

Dean Allen Foyd – Sunshine Song-Devil’s Path

The psychedelic Swedes from Dean Allen Foyd are back with an incredible groovy and swinging seven inch that will turn you on and freak you out. Released as an edition of 350 pieces in different colors on H42 records it’s a definite collector’s item. Not in least for the fact that the two tracks are of absolute stellar quality. Groovy to the max!

In The Whale – Lake of Fire

The dynamic rock duo In The Whale just released their new album entitled: Nate & Eric. It’s raw and rambunctious rock straight out of a filthy gutter that has all kinds of weird stuff floating in it while it runs besides an infamous and gritty rock ‘n roll punk rock infused juke-joint. No need to call names, just call’em Nate & Eric and join them as they march giddy and laughing towards a Lake of Fire!!!
