Von Durden – III

Von Durden – III
VVEGA records/PIAS
Rock, Pop, Electro, Stoner
Rated: ***

Von Durden is still made up out of five crazy Belgians nowadays. It’s always good to check since they changed shaped a color a lot with their first release Death Discotheque from 2010 and Dandy Animals from 2012. But wait, two left and two new members came. Fabrice Giacinto from Romano Nervoso and Marie Delsaux aka Gladys have joined this fun lovin bunch of freaks. Well, on their third album aptly named III they still dance and rock out like they did on that second album. Moving further away from Queens of The Stone Age towards a sound that De Staat captured on Machinery and even more on I_Con. This is made to move and sway to and once every so often to jump around to. But also to dance, motherfucker. It’s a party. But that’s not really doing the album enough justice; cause there are more layers. And those layers are crazy with catchy meanderings and trickster trappings. And then on the occasion you want it the most there is this raw little edge; and always, yes always, feverous energy and frantic enthusiasm! Always on the very edge of exploding! 'Three minutes. This is it. Ground zero. Do you want to say a few words to mark the occasion?'

Von Durden – Dandy Animals

Von Durden – Dandy Animals

Back in 2008 when they released their debut album Death Discotheque; The Von Durden Party Project consisted of three members. Even though they started out with an impressive five a year before. Nowadays they shortened their name to simply Von Durden and have grown once again into a fivesome. And their second album Dandy Animals has moved even further along the poppy sound that was already present on their first record. Together with ever-present synthesizers and very danceable beats it almost leads to invent yet another stoner-related scene: stonerdisco. Sure we still hear some influences from Queens Of The Stone Age and Eagles of Death Metal. But they lean more towards the Infadels now or a weird hybrid version of Chemical Brothers and Foo Fighters. Dandy Animals; highly energetic and dynamic danceable rock to move your feet to and flirt with them girls going wild…

The Von Durden Party Project – Death Discotheque

The Von Durden Party Project – Death Discotheque
Bang – 2008
Rock/Stonerpop
Waardering: ***

Hailing from the ‘still’ Belgian French side of things; The Von Durden Party Project started out in 2007 with five heads but has now been reduced to a core of three. The name has also been shortened to just Von Durden and a second album called Dandy Animals is in the works and will soon see the light of day. Which pointed me to the fact that their first one: Death Discotheque has received extreme little attention. Even though the album contains a dozen damn fine songs that fit perfectly in the stream of stonerpop bands that have seen the light of day in recent years. They hold their own in the middle of Arctic Monkeys, De Staat and the Eagles of Death Metal; and all of that interspersed with a nice dose of disco! Energetic rockmusic that either stirs or moves your bones; but usually leaves you jumping like a madman. Or if you will; polished stonerpop with an extremely moveable rhythm that still on occasion lets that sexy raw sound shine through… Allez; donnez-moi quelques nouveaux battements!
