Members of ELDER, HIGH FIGHTER, DELVING & LAWNS announce new band WEITE!

Debut album coming in the summer of 2023 on Stickman Records!

Stoner HiVe has never been a 'news' site, there are different cool sites, zines and blogs for that. We normally focus on 'reviews' and the occasional 'interview'... Ofcourse when we do those new singles or new videos or premieres, that can be viewed as news... But I guess this is one of the first few real NEWS articles... We just couldn't help ourselves! For there is yet another cool Elder offspring in the works and it's called WEITE! And we love Elder, so we can't wait to hear... WEITE!

Nicholas DiSalvo (Elder, Delving) and Michael Risberg (Elder) alongside colleagues Ingwer Boysen (High Fighter) and Ben Lubin (Lawns), have announced a new band, WEITE!

WEITE was initially conceived as a one-off winter project by Boysen, who contacted DiSalvo and Risberg with the idea to write and record a record within a week. Having played together in DiSalvo's live band for his project Delving, a certain musical chemistry was already apparent. The three recruited Berlin-based English guitarist Lubin to round out the quartet and proceeded to bunker in for a week of intense songwriting.

Sharing their diverse musical interests and swapping instruments frequently, a body of songs was quickly created that channeled a collective love for 60's and 70's psychedelic music, krautrock, jazz and listening to one motorik beat for 20 minutes straight. The troupe set off to record in a short session at Big Snuff Studio with frequent collaborator Richard Behrens and within a few days "Assemblage" was born. Recording live, Behrens captured the essence of the session, at times mellow and times intense, with the five together then embellishing the raw recordings with a hearty dollop of experimental overdubs.

After many banal discussions and almost a year after the project was finished, WEITE was officially born as the group decided to continue the project as a proper band. "We didn’t intend to start a band, but it kinda happened“, the band comments on their first social media post. "It turned out pretty cool, too cool to let it be a one-off, so we decided to keep it going. WEITE was officially born; the word means “expanse” “vastness” or “width”, a few adjectives we’d use to describe our sound.“ A making of video for "Assemblage" is now available on WEITE's Instagram page.

Stay tuned and expect shows in 2023 celebrating the official release of "Assemblage", slated for a July-release through Stickman Records, with more music to come in the future!

So far, there's only an Instagram page... Follow it here: WEITE

High Fighter – Champain

High Fighter – Champain
Argonauta Records – 2019
Rock, Grunge, Metal, Stoner, Sludge, Doom
Rated: ****

We should be tarred and feathered for neglecting to mention the 2016 album Scars & Crosses by German based High Fighter. We mentioned their first EP release Goat Ritual back in 2014, but their following full-sized was already so much better we could not get enough of it. It had a vintage grunge sound and an overall pressurized sound that made the entire album come across like it was about to explode. And now there is a new release called Champain. With a bit more tempo and even more energy than before they stomp out of the gates with a growling opener. The vocal prowess of Mona Miluski is obvious; but on this record she definitely tries more approaches and almost all of them seem to shine like a pile of gold. Damn what growth! On all fronts! And then they also have a song called Kozel which obviously pays homage to the magician Jan Kozel from Jegulja and Carnaval. Well, they’ve got my vote!

High Fighter – The Goat Ritual

High Fighter – The Goat Ritual
Enorm Music – 2014
Rock, Metal, Core, Stoner, Sludge
Rated: ***

The debut EP The Goat Ritual by High Fighter is by no account meant for the feeble, the weak and the weary. It is an all-out stampede on the senses and it will devour you whole if you’re not careful. It is a new band formed in the summer of 2014 by members of Buffalo Hump and A Million Miles. And those of you who know of those bands will immediately recognize the guttural screams and grizzly howls of Mona Miluski who has no hindrance with switching on her clean voice when the songs calls for it. The most impressive part however is the no holds barred drumming and the metallic riffs that just keep whirling around like a mad dervish. The five tracks pounce on you like an animal lying in wait to murder. Not because it is hungry but for the pure lustful act of killing. So be prepared to fight!
