Mornin everyone! Final few days before we depart for the road trip through Italy. And that while we still need to get grounded after another wild and wonderful edition of Sonic Whip Festival. Absolutely one of the best indoor festivals around! Loved every minute and show I saw but the performances by Karkara, Khan, The Devil And The Almighty Blues, Elder playing Lore in its entirety and the tears that welled up during Temple Fang will forever be edged upon my heart. Many thanks to all the venue, the organizers, the bands and the fans once again. What pure bliss to have been a part of it again! We hope to do a few more Stoner HiVe posts before we leave devoting every spare second we have. But they are severely limited, so we cannot say how much we will be able to do. But you can always enter the 'wayback machine' and scroll through old Stoner HiVe posts from the last sixteen years if you are hungry for some freaky HiVe stuff or visit last week’s post by Stevie Reek about Pearl Handled Revolver or words about Mandy Manala! And get ready for that FULL ALBUM REVIEW for Mandy Manala happening THIS WEDNESDAY! Have a great week everyone! Much love!

Morning! We’ve got some time off approaching fast. And working hard to get all that rent paying stuff done as well as some promises we made for Stoner HiVe. So, besides those updates, not that many might appear this week. Cause on Thursday we leave for Sonic Whip Festival in Nijmegen! Can’t wait! Have you seen the line-up? Wowzah! The week past was filled with work as well but we still managed to do some HiVe stuff, I mean that Quick Fire Friday alone had eight good songs or more in it! But then we also managed to mention that wild new Gaupa single and the one by Kadavar. We put up a some words about the new Mountain of Misery, Paralyzed, Conan and Magic Pie. We were honored to receive that wonderful gift from Argonauta Records and we were also honored to be part of the Breakfast with Komatsu. And we finally put up a few words about that croissant filled morning… So, here’s to the new week! May it be good and merry for you all and for those attending Sonic Whip! Hope to see you all there!

Week 20

Number 19

Number 19

We arrive at a very difficult spot. Or in fact, we were already there when Orange Goblin’s album The Wolf Bites Back only received ONE point less on Number 20 than the THREE albums that are following now. Indeed. You heard that right! There are THREE albums on position Number 19! You all voted for these three and gave them the same exact amount of points. Two of these bands made the list with earlier albums and one comes straight out of and way out of leftfield. Back in 2014 their debut album made it all the way to Number 6 and now arriving in a new town, a hellish town, the album kicks out glorious riffs, melodies and vocals. It’s an evil town; but this album makes it all sound wonderful and wild! The other band made it to Number 13 last year. And absolutely delicious album that was; and now on their new record they turn everything a darker shade of space and the tide quickly turns explosive and dangerous! The leftfield album makes your headache sound amazing, their industrial noise, their mathcore, their grindpunk, their blackish sound will translate every desire you ever had into something you wish you never received… On Number 19 we find!

Electric Citizen – Helltown

 &

Spaceslug – Eye The Tide

&

Daughters – You Won’t Get What You Want

Stoner HiVe’s
Top 5 artists listened to last week…

The Legendary Tigerman
Electric Citizen
Bud Spencer Blues Explosion
Crazy Bull
Komatsu

No time. Really. We mean it this time! So, here’s just the fast list of the Top 5 of most listened artists this week. Well, and a quick note to tell you what the albums are called. Misfit, out on Dirty Water Records, by The Legendary Tigerman, which we absolutely adore, read about it below. Electric Citizen’s new album Helltown! Amazing, out soon on Riding Easy Records. The new Bud Spencer Blues Explosion. It’s called Vivi Muori Blues Ripeti, out on La Tempesta Dischi, it continues on where the former record halted. Crazy Bull, I was ordered to do so by Sir Bucky Brown. And I’m glad I listened. The Past Is Today, out on Totem Cat I believe, is filled with hardrock, seventies love and something sweet that could have come from Sweden. Lovin it! Argonauta Records releases the new Komatsu, and New Horizon keeps on spinnin! The boys delivered solid gold! So, check’m out! Check’m all out!

Number 6

Number 6

“Chapter6, 3 year old Single Malt Whisky. Unpeated whisky, made by Iain Henderson. Matured solely in Bourbon casks. A great reflection on the wonderful work done at the distillery and a real hint of things to come. Unchillfiltered - Natural Colour.”

Perhaps the biggest surprise for me in this year’s Stoner HiVe countdown. As we jump 26 points from Fu Manchu to reach the next band; with a female vocalist. A band and album that for some weird reason completely passed me by before all the votes came pouring in. I had no idea. So we immediately needed to get that fixed. And what a fix it was! Ancient and bronze, vintage and doom. We’re back in the sixties and there is a bright and kaleidoscopic psychedelic edge to everything you hear. Instrumentation that holds its own against so many of those originals and organ sounds that make you lick your fingers. And there’s the vocalist. She has range and dynamic and knows how to pull you close or set you free. Simply wonderful. This kind of copper color music is always welcome, because it is like velvet for your ears…
