Morning! Welcome to another new start of the week and a Stoner HiVe glance back to the  week passed. It’s gonna be a hectic week and a very annoying day over here. But luckily we have that amazing music to help us get through it all! We’ve been listening to the albums that made the First ever Doom Charts list from March 2015, and that is reflected in the list above of course. Congrats once again to the DC and all its Contributors. We did a Quick Fire Friday, posted videos by An Evening With Knives, Komatsu and Point Mort. Love For Loud published her list of gigs for March and yes, we also promoted that interview with did for Aftershocks TV / Seismic Sounds. We talked a lot about Stoner HiVe and Doom Charts and it was a weird honor to do so. The honorable poet Ronny Dijksterhuis delivered two amazing reviews for the split album by TTTDC and Sons Of The Ionian Sea and Hempire. And yesterday we posted reviews for Ironrat and An Evening With Knives. Not too shabby listed like this. But of course, we always want to do more… Don’t think that can happen this week. But we’ll try! Go check out the write-ups and check out the playlist for the list above, mostly filled with amazing albums from March 2015! Thank you Doom Charts and your big ears!

Week 10

Number 19

Number 19

We jump 20 points from King Gizzard And The Lizard Wizard on Number 20 to reach the album on Number 19! One that I, I must admit, I had personally reckoned would end up a bit higher on this years countdown. It is the bands fifth full-sized record and sees them, once again, changing everything up! Not just musically, but also in line-up. But don’t you worry, the sound still moves through the stoner landscape, the sludge scenery and the metal vistas. As always, yet as never before. Cause there seems to be so much more over the horizon. Something even more dynamic and hinting at endless possibilities. So big, so grand and then they manage to condense all that into something simple and elegant; yet low, robust and effective! Does it hold a candle to their earlier releases? Does it torch everything they did before? I must admit, I am still uncertain where exactly to position this album among their earlier releases; but you crazy lot voted it to become Number 19 of 2019!

Stoner HiVe’s
Top 10 Most Listened To Albums Last Month…

A week late… Of course… And actually, we haven’t been posting them a lot recently, those Most Listened to lists… But it’s been a busy couple of months… There’s a holiday coming up soon… After which we shall hope to become a bit more regular again… And, this time we’re are posting the most listened to Albums… Not artists… Otherwise that gigantic Doomed & Stoned In England compilation, curated by Reek of STOOM, would not have been on the list…

Torche – Admission

Torche – Admission
Relapse – 2019
Rock, Stoner, Sludge, Metal
Rated: ****

Four years has passed since their last album Restarter. And what a grand Torche album that was! Admission is their fifth full-sized record and sees them, once again, changing everything up! Not just musically, but also in line-up. But Steve Brook is still there and is without a doubt once again responsible for most of the typical Torche sound. Which is still as allusive as ever, but is always so freaking catchy and ear-pleasing. It still moves through the stoner landscape, the sludge scenery, the metal vistas but it takes on a journey through so much more. There is so much and yet they manage to simplify it and condense it to low, robust and effective. Effective by default it immediately shows where they went berserk themselves, like for instance on Infierno, which is without doubt the most savage animal on the album. Eleven songs and all of them equally inspired and thrilling…

Torche – Restarter

Torche – Restarter
Relapse Records – 2015
Metal, Stoner, Rock, Sludge
Rated: ****

What to say about those damn funny freaks that is Torche. Rocking the world for over ten years with an ever changing approach to the music they want to bring. It could be seen as a justified quest to find the perfect metal soundtrack to sunny and shiny rock that is both infectious as it is catchy. And on the record Restarter, the first album after Steve Brooks reformed Floor, they are back at it, in fine form. Where Harmonicraft from 2012 went overboard with its lighthearted approach we can now hear something even more compelling than Meanderthal. You could almost state that the quest is over and that Restarter is the treasure they have been looking for all this time. Easy comprehensible riffs that slowly but solidly work towards eager refrains. Thrumming bass and guitar colors that are allowed to zing, sting and fuzz. Gentle rolling songs leisurely built by straightforward yet shimmering riffs, outlandish prose and poetry in unadorned vocals with beautiful echoes. And then there are the faster and more nervous songs with speeding tempos and a rhythm section that becomes a beast all onto itself. Typically Torche, the Restarter album has it all and moves easily around heavy, chugging, rocking, hypnotic and sexy without every losing focus or that typically Torche sound…
