Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

I’m pretty sure there will be some Friday Freebie action over on the Doom Charts today! And over on Stoner HiVe!? Well, we have some Quick Fire Friday action! That’s right, a few selected words about something cool that has been spinning a lot over here… This time around, we do it slightly different, a shorter and perhaps sweeter version to give you all some new videos! Why not right?! And we know… There is so much out there, so much good and heavy stuff, and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. But here it is… Another Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Friday! And it burns hot like molten lava!

Greenleaf – Avalanche

It went bang again some two days ago! For the new Greenleaf single and video was released back then. It’s called Avalanche and is the second single for the new album The Head & The Habit to arrive on June 21st through Magnetic Eye Records. Breathe, Breathe Out had that comedic video with the amazing shirts made by Tommi Holappa’s daughter. This one is sporting an official lyric video, with cool visuals and that almighty Greenleaf groove! Hitting you like an Avalanche!

Geezer – Acid Veins

Premiered on the legendary The Obelisk a day or two ago, it’s the new Geezer track and video called Acid Veins. It’s from the soon to be released, on the very cool Heavy Psych Sounds label, split album called: Interstellar Cosmic Blues & The Riffalicious Stoner Dudes. And that, my friends, is not a whole mouth full, it is also a freakin cool split album featuring ISAAK on the other side. Bam! Nothing more to say, except to state that it’s the Harrington groove blues boogie in full swing and we cannot stop spinning it!

Suif – Hollow

Soon. Very soon. They will be blowing up your stereo with their slowcore magnificence on an album called A Run On Thin Ice. We’re talking about Bordeaux, France foursome Suif. And out now is the first single and video Hollow. Beautiful music with a beautiful video. Listen to Hollow and go follow… Suif

Deliria – Gemini

Cold or was it a shiver of pain that ran through me? A cut in my finger, like from knife but now from a sound. Am I supposed to linger? Am I supposed to feel all this existential dread decent upon me? Gemini is the second single and live video from the new album Phantasm which will be released on May 3rd. The highly evocative post metal, black metal outfit from San Fransisco called Deliria implores some hardcore influences and a whole lot of atsmosphere! Making me wax poetic!

Max Boogie Overdrive – Stoned Again

Max Boogie Overdrive – Stoned Again
Self-released – 2024
Rock, Stoner, Hard, Metal
Rated: ****

Most of the words that follow were jotted down over the course of many months. Because the promo dropped so early, we assumed, constantly and erroneously that we would have time enough to finish this write-up about the full-sized debut Stoned Again for the Max Boogie Overdrive fun bunch from Los Angeles, USA. And yesterday, and no, not because we were constantly Stoned Again, we realized the album drops today! So, happy release day to the Max Boogie Overdrive four and all the people that will hear this album today and get high from all that fast paced hardrock. Indeed, hardrock interlaced with stoner and something seventies rock inspired and full of eighties metal adoration. For you will be treated to some bad ass motoring stonerrock, speed boogie metal and a whole lot of swagger. The Max Boogie Overdrive filled up their van with all that up-tempo and fuzzed out grooviness and went to town! Opener The Devil Knows My Name was their second single and is the seminal cruiser for their forward motion rock, zipping along the coast on an old bike, with the confidence that comes on a man when the wind picks up and he begins to move in a hard straight line toward an unknown horizon, trying to get away from the Devil. Blues roots abundant, luscious guitar all across the composition and absolute thundering drum work. Suffer Sister was the first single, logically chosen, for the amount of catchiness and those riffs tumbling over each other, shortest track on the album and a righteous shotgun blast with the bit of freak out soloing around the middle segment, ending on that perfect drum down and cowbell note. Third track Freakazoid slows down, digs in and drops some acid… Rock… With explosive guitar solos that take you places and a steady swing and swagger, rolling over that running eighties metal guitar riffing underneath or allowed to free flow and drown you in a mirror pool of wavey guitar sounds. Followed by Van Boogie, the most Californian desert, skater and stoner rocking song on the album. And indeed, such a boogie, with a dynamic bob and bounce, and a groove that seems to run deeper than the Mariana Trench. Full tilt boogie indeed! The hardrock and metal pervasive stoner dynamite that is Bomb Incoming comes next, with those chugging riffs and those classic eighties refrains, delivering once again what Max Boogie Overdrive seems to be all about, that fun gritty rock! Two more tracks follow before you get to the final title track of the album: Stoned Again. Starting off with a lovely snippets of the honest former President of the USA, Obama, it soon becomes this face melting druggy and drifting stoner rocking ripple, speeding up later on and returning to slow fold afterwards. Filled with anthemic vocals professing the drug feelings of the youth and loads of soundbites at the end coming out of the cosmic void to combat that elated feeling you had about drugs earlier on. It’s all good. It’s all fun! Just like the entire album, Max Boogie Overdrive show their colors early on with this record and show us we need more classic metal mixed with stoner boogie. Cause this is what truly gets you high!

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

The new Edition of The Doom Charts is going up in a minute, looking back at all that good and heavy stuff that came out in July. Which means this Quick Fire Friday might not be read by that much of you crazies out there? Right?! Cause ya’ll have 40 albums over on the Doom Charts to go through! Well, we're gonna do this anyway, cause we feel the fire burning! So, here’s another 10 albums, singles and EP’s to get your head around! A few a bit older and some a bit newer. But all straight out of the Heavy Underground! And we know… There is so much out there, so much good and heavy stuff, and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. But here it is… Another Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Friday! And it burns hot like molten lava!

[B O L T] – ( 0 5 )

This one was released all the way back in April of this year, through Dunk Records. They’re called [B O L T] and with their newest release ( 0 5 ) they give us yet again some blackened instrumental drone to submerge ourselves in. Seventy-seven minutes of doom, drone, sludge, and ambient metal! And if those brackets aren’t enough, they move outside of them whenever they feel like it. Two basses, one drummer, delivering sometimes dark but often beautiful amniotic drone…

Le Scimmie – Adriatic Desert

Early on we mentioned their Habanero release and Dromomania on the HiVe, but back in April they released their eight track aptly named Adriatic Desert album, and we are very saddened to say we did not mention if before now. We are talking about the Italian duo Le Scimmie! And the way the album bursts out of the gate with that Wild Boar track will immediately turn up the dry heat and whirlwind sand around your head! Out on Frekete! Records, it’s got style, class, and attitude; this is the kind of record you can keep spinning over and over…

Bottled Fish – Dreams Lie

We’re travelling through April so it seems, cause Bottled Fish released their Dreams Lie album back then as well. The duo, trio, or sometimes four-piece from Prague, Czechia, sketch indie, slow core, psychedelic, and alternative drawings of human existence. Often moving towards the bronze, faded colors of an old picture, the bossa nova, jazzy kind, you wait for the crystal chandelier to come crashing down. It never does, the world keeps spinning and the music behind Dreams Lie keeps you in a worthwhile drowse…

 Karma Vulture – Something Better

Can you guess when Karma Vulture’s Something Better album was released? Indeed, back in April! Featuring The Absurd vocalist Ben Foerg on Drums the ten tracks give you some spicey hardrock, that goes the way of the Californian desert and stoner as much as it does a more classic seventies take on rock. A bit of eighties, a bit of surf, a bit of space, and a whole lot of attitude! Out on Bent Knee Records, obviously, it naturally ended up on the April Doom Charts! Lucky Number 13!

Alconaut – Endless Skies

Back in May, Corsican trio Alconaut released Endless Skies to much acclaim and stormed to the Top 3 of the May Doom Charts. I love Corsica, had many wonderful adventures there, but apart from arriving by boat in Bastia, I never really spent time in that little city. Listening to Alconaut I immediately think I should! Their progressive and psychedelic rock also meanders through the metal landscape and brings its very own spirit. A bit like the island does as well…

Max Boogie Overdrive - The Devil Knows My Name

The lovely lady behind Mettle Media PR very carefully picks whatever she thinks is awesome and she wants to promote and in doing so, has set a precedent, the bar high and a trustworthy mark up on the wall! So, when the promo came in for the new single The Devil Knows My Name by Los Angeles trio Max Boogie Overdrive we knew we would be blown away properly! Bad ass motoring stonerrock and speed boogie metal! It’s the second single for the Stoned Again album to be released in October and Suffer Sister was the first track leading the charge… Can’t wait for the rest of the album!

Gramma Vedetta - Space Farmer

London trio Gramma Vedetta has been releasing grade A heavy stuff for quite some years now, remember that wild The Hum Of The Machine from last year for instance. Well, the three amigos are back with a new single called Space Farmer! And what a ride! Stonerrock of the top shelf; with some indeed, cosmic influences that turn their desert sound into one sandy wasteland from the red planet. Super sharp, super charged, stoner that will turn the earworm into a wormhole!

David Eugene Edwards – Lionisis

Had the pleasure of interviewing the man once, seen him many times live, with 16 Horsepower, Wovenhand, together with Hungarian folk group Muzsikás and Zapp String Quartet and of course that very intense first time he played at Roadburn back in 2011. We mean David Eugene Edwards, and he has just announced his first ever solo album Hyacinth under his own name and shared the first single and video Lionisis. Out in September through Sargent House, this one single alone holds promise of everything we love about David Eugene Edwards
