Joop Konraad’s – Personal Top 20

JK’s – Personal Top 20

JK’s – Personal Top 20

The Stoner HiVe Team Members are all involved with the Doom Charts as well. So most of the personal lists already appeared there or probably will in the near future. But we’re (re)posting them here once again. Just because we like to keep things nice and tidy; and up with the tradition…

What an amazing musical year once again! Sure, the rest of the world, society, politics, environment, economics are all shot to hell. But the music man! Wow, triple wow! It’s amazing. And has been ever since Stoner HiVe started back in 2009. The Scrobbled Albums count alone already reaches 1,705 different albums. That’s not counting streams, cd’s, vinyl and offline listening. Man o Man! And most of all that, is just our little niche of heavy rock that is. Can you imagine the amount of amazing stuff being released in other genres as well? Staggering! Anyway, below follows a list of my Personal Top 20. Followed by another 30 that are just as amazing. Those Top 20  albums did so much for me on so many levels. And the 30 that follow as well, but just a bit less perhaps. But still a truckload! And below that are about a hundred more that could be named as well. But we shall refrain from doing so… (With clammy hands and cold sweat at the lower back.) Cause we adore those as well! And all of those could be your next favorite album of 2021! Anyway, enough with all the sappy stuff. We thank all the bands and artists again for their amazing music and hope they shall continue till the end of the world. Cause we love the shit out of it! And it is what keeps us going... And sane... Somewhat...

Every year again since we started Stoner HiVe back in 2009 we are stumped, amazed and awed by the amount of majestic releases. Sure, we all curl up in our own little niche most of the time and go absolutely apeshit listening to all that heavy stuff. And that part of the music world alone is already incredible. And then think about the other genres out there and the amount that’s released in that part of the music world. I personally just hope that all you crazy music fiends out there keep on trying out the other stuff as well. Cause we can all get swamped in our own little niche of danceable stoner pop, blackened doom or grimy garage sludge. But there are so many amazing album being released on a monthly basis. It is stupendous, insane and absolutely stunning. Below follows a list of thirty albums that did a lot for me on many levels. But I can just as easily name twenty or fifty more that also did a lot for me. And that’s just the heavy stuff. Looking at the thirty I sent in; I’m thinking: ‘what the hell?!’ How can you leave off The Goners, with their Good Mourning album and that amazing opening track Are You Gone Yet? Or the new 1000Mods album? How about the amazing 10Code? ZOE? Big Scenic Nowhere? And we can list many albums more this way… Well, below our personal Top 20, err Top 30; we list another 30 or so albums that we enjoyed like crazy! And crazy we are! About all that heavy magic! And thanks to the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown I’ve dived deeper into all those albums as well; and all of them should be on my list as well! Man, we love’m all so much! Keep’m comin! Keep’m comin!

JK’s – Personal Top 20 (errr, Top 30)

What a year it has been once again. Rock has been declared dead so many times. Or declared a Titan Arum that bloomed for the last time around the seventies an equal amount of times. But it seems the heavy side of rock just keeps on blooming. It’s just different nowadays! Because of the internet or perhaps thanks to the internet. There are so many outlets to find the music to suit your exact taste. Looking at the thirty I sent in; I’m thinking: ‘what the hell?!’ How can you leave off Nightstalker? Or Lunar Effect? Or Ealdor Bealu? Solace? Horseburner? Emily Jane White? Or those two amazing records that were released at the very end of December 2018: Pfund and Son Cesano? It feels wrong, and it feels like I should revise the entire list again. Or even just include them all. All of the ones that I love. Well, I guess I just loved the thirty below just a tiny, almost unmeasurable, amount more. Upwards and Onwards in 2020! Let’s get heavy once again! ~ Joop

JK’s – Personal Top 20

JK’s – Personal Top 20

The amount of amazing albums released this year is once again mind blowing. When trying to write down my personal favorites I quickly exceeded a hundred. I then decided to start listing the albums that did the most for me in every way conceivable. And quickly reached fifty. It wasn’t really possible to tone it down to thirty. But I did so anyway. These thirty below are without a doubt the albums that moved me the most. I reckon most of them on the list could easily have ended up higher or a bit lower depending on the moment when I listen to them. And so are the over seventy albums that I absolutely adore as well that I am not listing here… For all intended purposes, the list below are my favorite albums and the numbers 1 to 3 are there for a reason!
