The Doom Charts Peroration - February 2026

The Doom Charts Peroration

February 2026

“Sitting on a corn flake
Waiting for the van to come
Corporation T-shirt, stupid bloody Tuesday
Man you’ve been a naughty Doom Charts
You let your face grow long
I am the

~ probably misheard lyrics The Beatles

Even though it’s not Easter yet… We are the Egg men! As some of you probably realized, we always use all the album covers for the monthly Peroration header art. Well… Below, we feature 25 amazing albums straight out of the heavy underground. All worth every minute of your time. On the header image though, only 24 are featured. What?! Well.. Find out what album is missing, and then send us an email or a PM on the Doom Charts Facebook page through with the solution. The first ten to send an email or message will get a bandcamp code for that album! Happy hunting and listening!

We're gonna try to mention the Peroration Post on Stoner HiVe on a monthly basis as well, for the Doom Charts deserve it. The Contributors deserve it. And most of all, the bands and their albums deserve it! And this time around, once again, no less than 11 of those blurbs were written by one of the crazies that occasionally writes for the HiVe... So, go read up on Rob Zombie, Riastrad, Oreyeon, Motorpsycho, Mientras Las Abejas Duermen, India Tigers In Texas, It It Anita, Earth Tongue, Druid Stone, Dirty Dwarfs and Black Toaster... And of course all those other ones!

The following are professions of love and adoration by Doom Charts Contributors for albums they could not stop spinning. Each month, the Doom Charts critics submit their picks for the best new doom, sludge, metal, stoner, psychedelic and other sorts of heavy rock and metal albums. The results are compiled and tabulated into the chart which is published on the First Friday of the new month. However, sometimes a love is so great, but for whatever reason the album unfortunately did not make the published Doom Charts Edition or because there were so many contributors in love with that one album, that multiple blurbs were written, and only the one got published… Well, you can peruse that love here…

The Doom Charts For February 2026

DOOM CHARTS

FEBRUARY 2026

“Traveler now reach the stream, the audial flight adapter
From the pain-sheath sound ascends – the Non-returner hears
Empathy release me – and the Doom Chart rise triumphant…”

~ probably misheard lyrics by Om

The shortest month usually feels the longest when you’re waiting for the frost to break under the sun’s warmth, but the Heavy Underground has a way of warming your bones. As we venture further into this desolate year, the sheer volume of music being poured into our ears remains staggering. This month our contributors listened to, agonized over and eventually submitted a total of 200 different albums. And that’s only the ones they mentioned in their quantitatively restricted submissions, they probably listened to hundreds of albums!

From the smoke-filled basements of stoner rock, to the open fields of ambient, to the echoing cathedral naves of post-rock and cavernous lairs of doom, the variety continues to prove that “heavy” is a wide spectrum, not a single point. There continues to be an astounding amount of debut records submitted — bands emerging from the ether with fully-formed identities and riffs that sound like they’ve been aging in oak barrels for decades. Well, some of them do have the distinct edge of raw spirit rotgut. Of course, we still have to navigate the foggy musical swamp we’re wading through. We aren’t interested in the perfect performance or immaculate production, let alone committee engineered pop hooks; we want grit! And the small mistakes, the driving  passion and the raw power that only comes from real people totally smashing on their real instruments.

So, here it is: the top of the Doom Charts February 2026. A one-stop shop for the best new heavy releases out there, at least the best we could find! Dig in, support the bands, and let the music do the talking and screaming.

~ Jukka ‘Shrike’ Kolehmainen (Psychotropic Caravan, Abhorrence, Shrike’s Playlists)

Nicely worded by Jukka and we still can't wrap our heads around the sheer amount of albums released on a daily basis. But luckily we have the Doom Charts and all those other blogs, zines and podcasts to shed a light on many of them. And it's great when it happens on a Friday... For...

It's Bandcamp Friday and the First Friday of the new month... Perfect time to scour through the brand new Doom Charts edition!= Out now and featuring forty amazing albums for you to peruse!

And of those forty on the list I personally voted for:

Gonna start listening to all forty in a row again... We started with BROND's Snooze! And made our way through Lamp Of The Universe, Hela and have now arrived at Zahn and their Purper album...

DOOM CHARTS

FEBRUARY 2025

“Hey Siri, what is the Doom Patrol?”

~ Crazy Jane

The ride continues! The Doom Patrol is loose again! Running fast and loud through a great selection of heavy music. Ten Years on, and the Contributors are all still incredibly stoked to send in their lists of favorite albums of the month. To tell you each month about their discoveries. The best in their opinion. We are honored to have so many cool Contributors with us. And this month, they voted for 201 different albums! We’re in this together and we cannot wait, each month, to see the monthly list, to visit all those albums once again. Or for the very first time. The Contributors, the Doom Patrol, they are the Genghis Khan of heavy rock… And they want you to join the horde…

There she is! In all its glory... The new, February Doom Charts... Sporting 39 amazing new albums straight out of the Heavy Underground... 39?! Yes, it does not happen that often anymore. But one carried over from January!

Of the ones featured on the charts, personal votes went out to:

Acid Magus, Möuth, Fulanno, Ironrat, Prima Materia, Gin Lady, SweetBeast, Warlung, Red Eye, Year of the Cobra, Icarus Burns, Yawning Balch, Atomic Peat, Lightning Swells Forever, Requiem Blues, Motorpsycho, Shrew & Naxatras !

But as usual, could have, and probably should have voted for all the others! Completely enamored with that new Pothamus album right now for instance! And would have loved to have seen Ditch make it on! Go check it out! Check'm all out...

The February 2024 Doom Charts – 40 to 26

The February 2024 Doom Charts – 40 to 26

Stoner Hype

This is what we do and did on our little Facebook page during the weekend after the new regular edition of the Doom Charts goes online. We count down from 40 to 26 and try to type in a few words about that album or ep that makes sense to us. It’s not a review; but usually a miniscule blurb, a little sentence to entice, to hype. A Stoner Hype… Well, we collected them here to post for you in one nice little post on the blog… Because we like to keep things nice and tidy and it helps us spread the good word about them on Instagram as well…

SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM – OF THE LAST HUMAN BEING

"And yes, we immediately pressed play on of the Last Human Being by Sleepytime Gorilla Museum when we pushed publish on the February Doom Charts... But we had already been listening to it since Stevie Reek had been raving about it incessantly for quite some time... So here's his BC blurb: "The Greatest resurrection of All-Time! A dazzling, extraordinary melee of Invention which runs the gamut of genres through Avantgarde, RIO and beyond! Impeccable musicianship and cohesion throughout!"

SHADES OF DEEP WATER – COLD HEART

"Kippis! Shades of Deep Water bring that blackened, frostbitten doom from the Finland wastes. Death-doom, with funeral touches and melodic spikes... It will not warm the soul, but it will surely let your COLD HEART creak and groan with pleasure..."

THE BLACK FLAMINGO – AN NUR

"We wrote about that The Black Flamingo album back in January...Which you can read here: REVIEW. Or you just press play and let your thoughts drift away on their instrumental psychedelic current.."

THEM MOOSE RUSH – ZEPAXIA

"The off-kilter, alternative rocking, progressive loving, jazz toting, math inspired Them Moose Rush is back! And Zepaxia turns all the quirky into catchy! Perfect pop-prog for bopping down the streets and feeling funky!"

VERMINTHRONE – THE CULL

"The Cull, will cull the metalheads... For Verminthrone hits you with some filthy sludgecore, groove, doom and eighties metal inspired violence and thrash! Yes, yes, yes! Deemed worthy you shall be slamming around with best of metalheads for almost forty minutes in total!"

MISLEADING – FACE THE PSYCH

"You will go absolutely beserk and destroy furniture dancing around to this highly distorted kraut rockin madness! Psychedelic, doom touches, stonerrocking and space trucking noise from a totally different sonic dimension! Misleading will really make your head explode! I need to see these cats live!"

NIŠTA – NIŠTA

"ništa hails from Utrecht, Netherlands and gives you almost forty minutes of ethereal postrock, doom toned, melancholic and sad. It's an album about love that deserves to be love. And what better way to conclude that fact than by watching the honorable Scott Spiers from Cleanandsoberstoner gush for almost ten minutes and profess his love about this amazing debut album... Follow the youtube link to Cleanandsoberstoner."

THE PALADIN – COCKROACH CRUSADE

"Another band from Finland! The Paladin and their Cockroach Crusade give you fifty minutes of stonerrocking, progressive, metal touching and psychedelic wizardry. Perhaps the vocals can be a tad out of control here and there, but on every other front this debut album will capture your heart and sou! And them cockroaches in the cellar..."

SONS OF ZÖKU – ËNDLËSS

"Do you need some sunshine in your life? Check out the experimental, psychedelic, folk and world music splattered platter by SONS OF ZÖKU. Ëndlëss is filled with hypnotic chanting and sun-dappled spirituallity... These almost forty minutes of music will surely turn that frown upside down!"

WEEDOW – WEEDOW

"We wrote about Weedow just yesterday... And we love their album! And had hoped to see it higher up on the Doom Charts... Read on what we wrote here: REVIEW."

GLITCHCRAFT – GLITCHCRAFT

"Straight from Tasmania comes the six-piece GlitchCraft. That’s right, they reside in Hobart, and that’s about as Down Under as you can get. On their self-titled debut album they turn all that progressive rock upside down, stick it with some metal touches, jazz, psych and punk to turn it all into this big funky fusion fest! That’s right, they themselves like to call it Party Prog and they got that moniker down to an art! Out on Psychedelic Salad Records since February 2nd, we have been going absolutely wild with GLITCHCRAFT!"

PONDDIGGER – PONDDIGGER

"PondDigger hails from Brodhead, Kentucky and brings a hailstorm of hazy, fuzzy doom and stoner. Their self-titled debut sports all that ten ton heavy good stuff! No stress, no seeds, no stems, no sticks! Some of that real sticky-icky-icky stoner doom!"

MOTOROWL – THIS HOUSE HAS NO CENTER

"Motorowl was high on my list for these February Doom Charts... Their prog rock, adds a bit of doom and metal and brings that sound into darker and ominous territories. Simply put, you need to hear this and then you will believe it. This House Has No Center and you can run around through these tracks forever and ever..."

STYGIAN CROWN – FUNERAL FOR A KING

"We continue the rundown today with Stygian Crown... Out on Cruz Del Sur Music their Funeral For A King album gives you almost forty-five minutes of absolute thundering doom metal with a slaying sludge ton, that clearly evokes images of everything classic metal! A million ton heavy machinal record that makes massive and gigantic sound like understatements..."

NEBULAS GARDEN – NEBULAS GARDEN

"Nebulas Garden is a slow builder, a slow grower, but in the end when you have been overrun, overgrown by all their psychedelic rock you cannot help but return to their sprawling universe over and over and over..."

Tune in next month when we do this Stoner Hype again for the number 40 to 26 of the March Doom Charts... But for now... Go listen to all of the 40 of February if you haven't already!

The Doom Charts for February 2024

 Doom Charts

February 2024

Maybe the one day will be like that one day listening to the Doom Charts. Maybe it will last forever.

~ David (probably misheard quote from the 2001 movie A.I.)

The Doom Charts are merely a guide. A monthly chart based upon votes from many heavy music addicts from the Heavy Underground that take it upon themselves to go out and discover and write about as much new great music as they can. There is no algorithm involved, no AI, nothing artificial. Just pure love and dedication to the good stuff. I guess we are lucky, you know, you and me and that we dwell in the Heavy Underground. We do not need suggestions or predictions based upon what we listened before from some streaming service. We just go out and visit the blogs, zines, sites and listen to the podcasts spreading the love about all that good stuff. And then… We check it out ourselves. And possibly fall as madly in love with the album as the one suggesting it. Sometimes, it’s the other way around and we tip one of the many zines about a certain band. We are lucky. We listen to full albums. Do you think those streaming services will suggest you listening to SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM? I highly doubt it… They only suggest three-minute easy digestible bite-sized chunks.

Below are once again forty amazing albums. Full albums. We live in a time of a thriving heavy music community with so many great releases. And that is perhaps, the only minor danger here. Because there is so much, (239 albums received votes this month!) you might not stay with a certain album long enough. If you have time, please do. See it as that first vinyl record you ever bought or that cd, which you just played over and over, until those favorites songs from the first listening session are no longer your favorites and the ones you did not immediately appreciate are. If you don’t have time, there is a Spotify-playlist, (ho ho ho, the irony, the irony) at the bottom with the favorite tracks of the forty full albums below, chosen by the people voting for them. And all the tracks from the different Doom Charts editions that came before… Indeed, it’s an exceedingly long playlist. So be warned, it’s already over 200 hours of amazing heavy tracks… Single tracks. Which will lead you to more than 2000 heavy albums! Full albums… So, in the end, listening to all of it, might last forever…

It's Friday! Bandcamp Friday even... And those darn February Doom Charts are here! Featuring forty amazing album from the constantly providing heavy underground... All ready for you to peruse on Bandcamp...

For this edition I voted for: Sundrifter, Mr.Bison, KITSA, Deadpeach, Locomotiva Elétrica, GlitchCraft, The Obsessed, Shroom Eater, Motorowl, Last Quarter, Weedow and The Paladin.. But I could have and probably should have voted for the other 28 as well!!

And on the Stoner HiVe Facebook Page; we are running the countdown from SLEEPYTIME GORILLA MUSEUM on Number 40 all the way to Number 1 and jotting down a few words for 40 to 26... All of which will be collected again for the Stoner Hype post on Monday...

Doom Charts

“Death is but a doorway, time is but a window, I’ll be back.”

~ Vigo

And we are back! Just like clockwork, every damn month again, the Doom Charts are back! The first Friday of the new month and here we are with the February list of forty albums that all those Contributors loved so dearly. A Friday that sees the release of many new albums as well, and since it’s Bandcamp Friday, well… Take your pick! Or buy them all! Three albums carried over from January. Which means there are 37 spanking new albums on the list below. And just so you know, a lot of the Contributors were struggling to whittle down their list of favorite albums to the 25 they are allowed to send in. And a lot of the Contributors stated they already have a massive list of amazing albums for March as well. Crazy. So much brilliant heavy rock, so many breathtaking albums. We love it. So, indeed, who ever said rock ‘n roll was dead, and never understood what Vigo knew all along…

The February Doom Charts are here!

It's Bandcamp Friday and it coincides with the February Doom Charts! Does this make things simpler or more complicated? Cause all those FORTY albums are absolute stunners!  Personal votes on this months' list went out to: Hail the Void, Cleõphüzz, Dead Shrine, Khan, Westing, WARP, Grandma's Ashes, Abanamat, POLYMOON, Rotor, Emperors Lair, Witch City Music / Old Mine Universe, Swell O, Wolves in Winter, Sandrider, Moodoom and CHILD! The only one we mentioned on the HiVe so far is WARP, but there surely will be more to follow soon... Check'm out! Check'm all out!!

The Doom Chart For February 2022

Doom Charts

When the willow bends towards the end of day
And twilight falls again
To the funny sound that a blackbird makes
Twilight falls again
As no good reason remains, I’ll do the same
Thinking of you…
~ Mark Lanegan

We’ve lost another legend. One of the most beautiful growling voices has left us. The dark poet, the bard of the gutter, the troubadour of despair and he who was able to give all that is gray and all that is black that the perfect puncture of light. Mr. Lanegan has given us so much great music and personally I’ve been lucky enough to interview him a couple of times. He was one of my heroes; and his departure has left my nerves barren and raw. And then, when not even barely recovered from that heavy blow… War in the Western world…

I have always been very conscience of the fact that I’m from the Western world and that my world view has been shaped by Western eyes. But even so, even if my news and my media are framed a certain way. It is not state controlled and does not send out pure propaganda. The Doom Charts are not political. As we have stated before. But once again the world is in turmoil. And once again there is no other way around this, then to offer up the obvious: Russia’s leader is quickly descending into dangerous madness. Invading a sovereign country, that wants to go a different route than he prefers. And then, when the world sanctions him for his deplorable actions; threatening the world with nuclear weapons. He has been alone for most of the pandemic and that has not done much good for his sanity it seems… It spells doom for the entire globe, and we cannot let that happen… Even if you are still on the fence about what is happening, even if you believe some of what Russian media has stated; there is no denying the fact that when a world leader threatens the rest of world with nuclear weapons; things have gone too far… We’re almost over the edge…

A wise man and a scribe once stated: “The Edge…There is no honest way to explain it because the only people who really know where it is are the ones who have gone over.” Well, I don’t know about you… But this is an edge I do not want to cross… Let’s all come together now; for it has always been us. The good ones, the ones that want to do good and the ones that know that every extreme view on any subject is pure fear and a way to hope for some for of control… I’m sounding like an old hippie again; but I don’t care. They have always been right… Make Love, Not War…

And now on to business, cause even though there is doom lurking around the corner. We are here to offer up the good form of doom for you all. The heavy rock, heavy metal form of doom. And yes, loads of stonerrock, hardrock, seventies blues inspired rock, psychedelic rock and everything that you can think of that might fit between those genres. Cause the Doom Charts have always been about the heavy; in whatever shape or form. And there is so much of that heavy good stuff being released every month! Cause from the 30 that are mentioned this February edition; there are 28 new ones! So, thank you for all that heavy music, for giving it to us. The energy and the spirit that lies within those notes! And the way it offers up escape for those of us lucky enough to be able to escape…

And escape we shall! Starting with SMED’s self-titled record today and slowly working our way to Kryptograf on Number One. Personal votes went out to: Kryptograf, Fostermother, Obsidian Sea, Hydra, Holy Witch, Sönus, Kurokuma, Mount Desert, Firebreather, Titanosaur, Volcanova & Wovenhand! But we could have voted for all the others as well! So check’m out! Check’m all out!

The Doom Chart for February 2021

Doom Charts

For most of us this time last year we were getting our first taste of the COVID blues. Fast forward to 2021, and it appears there is some light at the end of the tunnel. In many areas live music is making its way back on track, cases seem to be trailing off and we’re beginning to ease into a sense of normalcy. That said, the music continues to blow our minds and has remained a staple while everything else around us seemed more like pandamonium.

February features a tight race at the top with many albums clearly influencing the listeners. Several records from January hang on for another round this month seeing 21 new entries dominating the charts as per usual, with a total of 279 unique albums voted upon.

No quote this month. Nobody knows why. But we don’t need quotes, we need music! And there she goes! The wait is over... The all new February edition of the Doom Charts went live on March 1! Featuring no less than 21 new enties and a new Number One! Will be running through all of those amazing albums once again today. There are even a few I haven't had the chance to listen to yet! Incredible! Zålomon Grass for instance! Can't wait to hear that one!  Personal votes went out to From The Ages, Kabbalah, Mos Generator, VOKONIS, Demon Head, Electric Mother, Komatsu, Rostro Del Sol, Holy Monitor, Indica Blues, Void Commander & Spelljammer…

Welcome to Doom Charts, representing some of the finest bloggers, journalists, radio, podcasters and album reviewers from the heavy underground around the globe.  Each month, our critics submit their picks for the best new doom, sludge metal, stoner-psychedelic and heavy rock albums.  The results are compiled and tabulated into the chart below.  This is a one-stop shop for the best new albums in the world…

The Doom Chart for February 2020

Doom Charts

“There’s no shoulder to cry on when you have no shame
There’s no finger to point when you are to blame
Open book, in my eyes shows you rain, then storming
I can’t look, when covered by the nothing and the suffering” ~ Down
What a month in the heavy underground. Not only were we blessed with hundreds of albums across the world making their presence known via word of mouth, social media, streaming platforms, live shows, opening slots, festivals, label endorsements, and well, YouTube.

Wait, YouTube? You may have witnessed some of the drama associated with a major YouTube channel Stoned Meadow of Doom (SMOD), causing a ruckus online this past month. The viral support within the heavy scene was an insane and amazing outburst of comradery. At the Doom Charts, its always been strictly about the music. Politics, religion, personal beliefs aside, we try to treat everyone with equal respect no matter their personal situation, unless it crosses THE LINE. We do not support or condone discriminatory acts of any sort. While I generally believe in second chances and that behavior is often a result of upbringing, cultural impacts and surroundings, I also believe in discipline, and consequences for such actions. In this case, the poor actions of SMOD were enough to garner a revolutionary action within the scene leading to what seems like closure to an online abuse of power, despite the exposure he was bringing to select bands on the channel. We’ve all witnessed instances of shady business practices, elitist attitude, and discriminatory actions throughout our lives and are all entitled to our own opinions on how to treat such behavior. In the end I hope we all can learn and grow stronger as humans from the what happened in February, including the perpetrator.

Enough drama, check out the February Charts right here, right now!!

Enough drama indeed. Bucky could not have said it better. Let’s all remember how bad SMOD was and the guy behind it is for the scene. There is no need for such a creep to be around; and I hope all of you crazy music fiends out there will not let it slide. Cause there is no need for him and his channel. There are so many other channels around that do it better for everyone involved. So forget about the bad one and let’s celebrate all those good ones and let’s celebrate the bands and the albums that are on it. Cause, man, there are a lot! Almost 250 albums got voted for by the contributors and only 30 are published. And this goes on every month. Amazing… Simply amazing! And Lowrider’s Refractions album climbed from position 4 in January to the Number 1 spot. Well deserved! And most of those 250 albums could also rank much higher come next month!
