Eagles Of Death Metal – EOFDM Presents

Eagles Of Death Metal – EOFDM Presents:
(Boots Electric Performing The Best Songs We Never Wrote)
Universal – 2019
Rock
Rated: **

We never really mentioned any of the great albums that Eagles Of Death Metal have put out. Yes, great albums. All of them. Although I must confess that I still think that their first one was their very best. And I don’t think this one will rank highly among them. Not that it is bad. But it feels a bit, errr, silly? Cause many of the covers already came out earlier on EP’s and such and some versions are not that good or every memorable. And I loved Jesse Hughes version of The Distillers song The Hunger, when he did it back around 2014 (?), it was a righteous cover that always came up during a cover test session among friends, pretty unknown and now it’s out there, for the rest of the world to enjoy. The rest of the tracks are a bit too similar to each other and Jesse has recently gotten the urge to start wheezing and husking even more when singing… And he can do so much more… It is the same trick over and over, which does not add to the love for this record. And yes, sure it is fun to hear what the boys do with Abracadabra by the Steve Miller Band or Family Affair by Mary J. Blige. But we already heard So Easy by Guns N Roses and High Voltage by ACDC. I don’t know…. Jesse, I hope you were there the past months when Billy Gibbons and Dave Grohl attended the new Desert Sessions hosted by your pal Josh Homme. Cause I feel you need some serious kick to get the creative juices flowing again. But hey, I love you all the time…

Paris

Paris

I was there. In Paris. Two weeks ago. And have a date with Eagles of Death Metal next Saturday at Speedfest festival in Eindhoven. But even without that given, the events of last night are shocking, world shattering and bizarre. There is ofcourse no possible avenue to take to prevent anything like this happening ever again. And that is perhaps even worse. Why are there so many people in the world, who know, just like me, that we could all just live together, respect each other and bask in the glory of life. And a handful or perhaps large portion of others that seem to want to destroy that only thing that we all share. For there is no such thing as a God or Allah or Shiva or Vishnu or whatever weird creature you want to believe in… Or perhaps there is. Nobody knows and even if believing in it, is the most sacred part of your being and soul, there is no reason why you should not accept that somebody else has a different view. Just the fact that there are so many different believes should give you the notion that someone might be right and someone might be wrong, and that that simple fact, right or wrong doesn’t matter on any scheme in life. It’s not about right or wrong. It’s about life. The one thing we all have and the one thing we should all do our best to live, in a way we want. I do not press my believes and views upon anyone. Never. I simply state how I feel and how I see things. If somebody else sees things differently, I shake his hands and truly congratulate him with those views. And I am more than happy to discuss those views on any subject. But I will not sway for anyone and will only mildly try to influence other people. Cause yes, I love the Eagles Of Death Metal. If anyone should be my God, it would have to be Dave Catching and ofcourse Jesse ‘The Devil’ Hughes. And why anyone would have a different one, I fail to comprehend. But I will never judge you for it. It is your choice. As it is with everything…

My thoughts go out to everyone in the world. The ones that feel distraught, the ones that know and the ones that feel. My thoughts go out to all my Gods in the world, those great artists, writers and musicians that have brought me so much. To Eagles of Death Metal, their crew and all of their friends and families. To everyone present at Bataclan and to everyone in Paris…

I will not participate in a silent march or a march of screams or a march of music. But if anyone knows the answer to the end of violence; and if it would require anything from me. I would gladly participate and give everything for it. Yes. Everything…

I love you all.

Eagles of Death Metal - New Rose

Eagles of Death Metal - New Rose

Recorded in a van parked outside the Rancho De La Luna studio with lovely images of the surroundings and RZA The Dog. It's Jesse Hughes and his Eagles of Death Metal, shaking it up with a cover song called New Rose originally by none other than The Damned which might be featured on the soon to be released new album... As a bonustrack perhaps?

Facebook

psst. Remember who else released a damn fine version of that song earlier this year? Aah yes, Peter Pan Speedrock!!

Sinner Sinners – Reckless

Sinner Sinners – Reckless

Originally from France and the Netherlands, married couple Steve and Sam founded Sinner Sinners in 2009. The first album ‘Cardinal Sins’ was released in 2011 and featured appearances from many affiliated bands such as The Morlocks, Time Again or The Elderberries. The album artwork was designed by world renowned tattoo artist Dan Smith (Kat Von D's High Voltage Tattoo). The band relocated to Los Angeles the same year and have been touring on both sides of the Atlantic, sharing the stage with bands such as The Sonics, The Lords of Altamont, The Morlocks, The Creepshow and many more. They now release a new EP entitled ‘Excuse My French’ and an official music video for the track ‘Reckless’ featuring the amazing Jesse ‘The Devil’ Hughes from Eagles of Death Metal…

Millionaire – Paradisiac

Millionaire – Paradisiac
PIAS – 2005
Rock
Waardering: ***

A second Belgian connection with the Rancho De La Luna studios is ofcourse found in the person of Timmy ‘Tipover’ Vanhamel. He not only played along on the first Eagles of Death Metal record Peace, Love And Death Metal from 2004 and fed Josh Homme’s inspiration with his own band Millionaire and their first album Outside The Simian Flock; and especially with the song Pretty Thug. He also had Josh Homme produce their second album Paradisiac, which was partly recorded with the help of Alain Johannes. We can also hear Aldo Struyf on the record and as we all know: he’s responsible for those wonderful Creature With The Atom Brain albums. But let’s jet back to Paradisiac. Most of it was recorded at the fabled Sound studios in LA and parts at the Rancho; ofcourse the tweaking was certainly done at the Rancho. But then again, it sounds like it was recorded at the crossroad of chaos, panic, beauty and sex. Much harder and less funky then their first album it was guided by the hand of Mr. Homme. He decided which studio’s to use in LA and where to practice and from what time to what time. But also made sure like a protective big brother that nobody else interfered with the recording process. In the end the guys wished they would have had more time in the studio and more time to experiment. Although one listening to Paradisiac for the first time after hearing Outside The Simian Flock might think that the entire record is one big experiment. It is raw like Motörhead, heavy like Monster Magnet and savage like Rage Against The Machine; and all that is dosed with electric spices and freaky sampling. Aah yes; too bad the guys decided to go their separate ways after this…
