It’s Kingsday over here in the Netherlands, and we’ve just returned from a two day break at the beach with our little six year old niece. Which meant, no updates and no time to keep track of everything. And last week, well, we had our Thursday and Friday spent doing all that Friday Freebie madness for the Doom Charts! As well as heading over to Tilburg for an amazing live show by Naxatras! If they ever turn up in your neighborhood, don’t miss out! But we did do a little last week and most importantly, that FULL ALBUM PREMIERE for White Tundra! Have you listened yet? Or that Black Toaster record! Which came out in February, highly addictive stuff! All of it… So check it out… All of ‘m!

As we run into the new week, we take a quick look back at the albums we listened to the most last week and of course take a gander at the limited amount of posts we were able to put online. We keep struggling to find the time to do more. And we fear there will not be much time for a lot this week. We do have a FULL ALBUM PREMIERE lined-up for Wednesday and probable interviews on Thursday and Friday. One of them will even be for the HiVe! But hey, we try and thank you all for keeping track of what we try to do…

So, last week, we managed to do a quick Premiere Post for that wild Beneath The Skin debut and wrote some words for the new Abrams. We saw the Doom Charts Peroration for March 2026 go live and jotted down a word or two about the heartland rock album by Gatlin Black. And last but certainly not least, motherfuzzing Mothertruck album by Fuzzing Nation got mentioned. So, we did do something, but it never feels like enough. But we try! Thank you for following along and keep listening to all that good music out there! All of it!

Abrams – Loon

Abrams – Loon
Blues Funeral Recordings – 2026
Rock, Grunge, Alternative, Hardcore, Metal
Rated: *****

Out since yesterday, the brand new Abrams album Loon! An outfit we always admired, but we only mentioned their 2022 In The Dark release. Shame on us! And shit, they might even sound a bit angry about it. Nah, they’re angry about the state of the world I reckon… And has turned their sound ever more intense! A sharp electrifying evolution for the sound the Denver four has sent out into the world, morphing ever more into something volatile and confrontational. There is no backing down from this, it’s in your face, and stays there from opening track Glass House till the final Sirens. It’s transmutation of their very own blend of melody, shoegaze haze and hook driven riffs into kamikaze like machine metal. Shot through with an intense sense of anger, urgency and attention seizing power. Surging with abrasive energy, the seemingly chaotic and noisy wild outs  still retain all of the emotional pull that has always defined the band…

The already mentioned opener Glass House and following White Walls lunge at you, foaming at the mouth. Riffs slash and convulse, drums hammer with feral intent and the whole thing feels only moments away from total collapse or mind shattering explosion. And yet, through all that splintered noise, you can feel the vocals rise, ragged, frayed, human and almost warm, like someone is trying to confess or implore, over the roar of a city burning wild with flames. It’s an approach they perfect on Loon. Sometimes, pulling back long enough to let dizziness set in, teasing with respite and melody before plunging back into the fray. A high wire act above all the chaos, where every note might be the one to make it snap. Exhilarating and dangerous! Do you feel lucky?

Mornin y’all! Monday is once again upon us! And we can glance back at some damn fine concerts during the weekend. A magnificent Anna von Hausswolff and three bands that tore The Jack in Eindhoven a new one. The moody and atmospheric Nevels opened the night, followed by a pristine Der Mancha Red and the debut stage experience for the aggro post metal mixture of Even If We Lose. And damn, how Der Mancha Red have grown, incredibly tight and a sound that reaches every fiber of your being. But as those tones slowly pass away now, we look forward to the FULL ALBUM PREMIERE by Mount Palatine we’ll do this Wednesday. And look back to thank Tony Maim for his Gluecifer write-up and Ronny Dijksterhuis for Iron Head and a massive Quick Fire Friday. And personally we jotted down some word on Barbears… Let’s hope to do some more this week! And check out those albums on the Top 10. Even though many of them won’t come out for a month or more, some of them have their first singles out and they will surely entice you to get ready for more! Have a great week everyone!

Ola chico’s! As we return from a three week off grid holiday in Spain, where we listened to loads of the May Doom Charts and even more classics, I realized I could post the Top 10 list of the albums listened to before I left. So, above, is the list of albums listened to in that first week of June. And now we race forward into the month! Which means the June Doom Charts is just around the corner… Can’t wait to see the new Doom Charts edition… As mentioned, it might take a day or two before we are really settled in, and another two to get through those thousand emails… But we’re back and we will get there in the end… Cause we need to check’m out, all of ‘m!

The week has flown by! Rent paying work, life, you know the deal, it all got in the way of the good stuff again… So, we weren’t able to do as much as we have hoped. Also, because Friday was taken up by all those Doom Charts Freebies. Did you grab any? Found your new favorite album? Hope so, if not, check the ones above… Or check out Sonic Wolves’s III album, we were honored to deliver the premiere for that wild rocker. But besides all that Sonic Wolves stuff, we were only able to write a few words about Full Earth’s Cloud Sculptures. Which is big in every sense of the word! And yes, because of an interview, the new Fischer-Z album Triptych was on heavy rotation. The old new wave punk, has gone full troubadour. Here’s hoping we have time to do more this week. Enjoy yours!

G'mornin! A new week has started! And we get to do another Full Album Premiere this Thursday! So, better check in this Thursday right?! Did you check out that Sons Of Morpheus album Fruits? I hope you did. Cause it’s a diesel blues rocking stoner gem and you can read more ab out it HERE. That Sixteentimes Music label has some damn fine releases every year. You might want to check out the entire catalogue in fact, it’s bordering on the insane, the amount of quality there. We also did a Single Premiere for Elk Witch, Ghost Of The Lupatia has a beautiful video and musically it heralds the coming of that amazing Azimuth album out April 12 on Majestic Mountain Records. We talked about the new Chelsea Wolfe and Dekonstruktor and did a Quick Fire Friday session besides getting the February Peroration Post up for the Doom Charts. And just yesterday, on Sunday we talked about that crazy eighties loving Hypnosaur release. I know we could and should do better, but on average, I’d say, not a bad week all in all. Let’s hope we can do at least as much in the upcoming week. Check out those posts from last week if you haven't and check out those amazing albums we listened to the most last week!Enjoy!

My sincere apologies for the lack of updates recently, but we have been swamped with work. The rent needs to be paid, and those ever-rising energy bills as well, as we all know. Some of the stuff was the usual horrible and annoying crap, but we also had some very fun interview assignments as well. That’s what keeps our energy level up! Spoke to Pablo from DeWolff, to Ruben from Triggerfinger and to Arthur. Or should we say, the Crazy Sir Arthur Brown! Got another one lined-up for Wednesday, but until then, we’re back to the horrible stuff for two days. Good news though, that Gravitational Perturbation album by Odonata is damn addictive! Good kicks! Check’m out! Check’m all out!

After returning for my little holiday in England, work got the upper hand and limited time was there to do any work for Stoner HiVe or Doom Charts… But once the Doom Charts hits, you can bet your ass, nothing will stop me from running through all those majestic albums once again! And now, as a new week lies before us, we hope we have a tiny bit more time to HiVe, but it might be difficult this week. Next week looks glorious, like a hopeful light at the end of the tunnel…

Abrams – In The Dark

Abrams – In The Dark
Small Stone Recordings – 2022
Rock, Stoner, Grunge, Metal, Psych
Rated: *****

It’s been out since early September and of course rocked the Top 10 of the September Doom Charts and it has been rocking me to my very core for a while now, we’re talking about the fourth full-sized album In The Dark by Denver, Colorado foursome Abrams. Started off as a trio, it’s always been the core duo of bass/vocals Taylor Iversen and guitar/vocals Zachary Amster, but since their 2020 album Morning they found the perfect drumming fit: Ryan DeWitt. Joining on second guitar for the In The Dark record is Patrick Alberts, who you might know from metal, death, core outfit Call Of The Void and their damn fine 2019 album Buried In Light. And since the beginning of Abrams stems from that more core and sludge scene as well, you can safely bet that Patrick will be the perfect match. And, as opener Like Hell shows you, there shall immediately be no doubt whatsoever about that. In fact, the whole record sounds like the merging of four musical minds that together bring you heavy mojo of the brilliant kind! Like Hell, as we were beginning to state, is one of those perfect blast offs, those drums kicking it all off, that soaring guitar leading into the riff, waiting for those vocals riding the driving energy towards the logical conclusions, the way those vocals exchange the spotlight and propel you forward. Which is even more the case on the second track Death Tripper. Almost giving off the idea that Like Hell was meant to propel the cart up to the highest point of the rollercoaster, and that Death Tripper is you inside the cart, speeding through the coaster at full speed, hitting all the corners like a maniac. And third track Better Living is the end of the ride, you getting off, high on adrenaline, which serves as the idea that you might be off Better Living when not on chemistry, but high on life. Those first three tracks are so full of fire and are so memorable, it will take an absolute pounder to make you go forth. And guess what word you can easily throw that fourth track? Indeed, In the Clouds and its pounding, chugging opening has you running towards the edge of the cliff, standing there expecting to fly, and you will! After which the album opens up to implore even more melody and slow sloping tracks that take their time to build up to their powerful statements. And the way those massive walls of sound manage to sound so different with each approach, shot through with grunge, late punk and stoner influences. And yet also giving off some progressive and psychedelic atmospheres, making everything sound so magical, floating and also robust and layered, makes us hope that In The Dark is the Abrams that has found their sound, their way and the way forward. And you and I will surely be there along with them, getting high on whatever they throw at us…

As we said before, we're still swamped with work and other crap. At least for one more week. Hopefully, everything will turn to normal after that... So, we're not sure how many updates will follow during this week...  But all the albums in the list above deserve to be spun for infinity! So, you'd better get to it!
