Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Weekend

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Weekend

Saturday has arrived and it’s even more hot and sweaty over here! Already 30 degrees and we’re not even around midday… Which, means it’s the perfect temperature for another round of Quick Fire action! We did a full Quick Fire Weekend before; and we might just do that again… Starting today! It is that thing we do to mention a lot of singles, EP’s, demo’s at once. Occasionally a full-sized album gets this treatment as well. And we know… They are worth way more of our time! But you know how it is… There is so much out there, so much good an heavy stuff, and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. So here it is. Another one of those Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Weekends! And it burns hot like molten lava!

Earl Redd Trucking – Sleeping with the House on Fire / Gambler's Home

A new two track release by Earl Redd Trucking. The Louisville, Kentucky three come out swinging with yet another duo of pretty lo-fi, damn gritty, hard hitting blues rockers. Hardrock, diesel blues, southern heat, it’s all there once again. And they’re about to record another single as well… Fumes all around! Smell you guys soon!

Somnium – Truth Set Me Free

This is Somnium from Adelaide, Australia. (Not the Indonesian one.) And they produce some chilled out, laid back, psych rock that surely tries to set you free with their Truth Set Me Free single. The duo (or still three?) go from trance inducing indie rock to slacker hippy prog within the space of this four and half minute windy, drifting rocker. Feel the breeze... Catch a wave... Dig it!

King Potenaz – King Potenaz (Demo 6:66)

King Potenaz is a powertrio from the south of Italy. Fassano, Italy to be exact. The three Kings released their first two tracks back in January of this year. Proto doom, proto metal and all done deliciously filthy and deliriously fuzzy. We can be pretty sure that every Sabbath, Sleep or Kyuss loving motherfucker will dig this… And if not, King Potenaz will have them hanged, drawn and quartered! All hail King Potenaz!

Zomer Project – In The End

The album Cursed Addiction comes out on Electric Funeral Records in a not too distant future and the lead single In The End was released last week. It’s the new classic metal, hardrock and progressive stoner project from Brazilian guitarist/vocalist of the band The Anmer, Pedro Zomer called Zomer Project! Damn fine, steamy, sizzling guitar work!

Atomic Thrillride – Heavy Elements

Atomic Thrillride – Heavy Elements
Trunnion Records – 2017
Rock, Hard, Seventies, Stoner
Rated: ****

It has already been five freakin years since Atomic Thrillride hit us with their fine ass debut album called Chain Reaction. And now they’re back with a follow-up to that sweaty hardrock record and named the new selection of songs: Heavy Elements. And heavy it is. Filled with ten intense trucking tracks which are all soaked in hardrock tradition, dried with seventies inspiration and sprinkled over with some stonerrock and punk adagio. Making some tracks stand out like righteous speedrock anthems, like closer Rocket To Hell. Sounding less southern, but every bit as sweaty as their debut record the album has without a doubt once again some hot magic going on. There’s something highly addictive about Heavy Elements, the Atomic Thrillride trio manage to make the classic hardrock sound, sound inspired, grimy, ruff and gruff. Every track seems important for some weird reason, with heavy riffs, heavy grooves, heavy rhythms, heavy drums and heavy basswork. Yes, all the Heavy Elements are there, now it just needs you! The bourbon fiends, the beer crazies, all the music junkies and the ones that carry the heavy rock in their heart. In short, the good people who listen to good music!

Atomic Thrillride – Chain Reaction

Atomic Thrillride – Chain Reaction
Self released – 2012
Rock, Hard, Blues, Seventies, Stoner
Rated: ****

There’s a certain sort of windswept heat across the great state of Kentucky. And on days when the wind dies down and temperature rises there is no refuge from it and you will have to blow off every arranged little thing and either go belly-to-belly with a good woman, in a soaked bed under a sweaty tin roof and a bottle of good bourbon right next to the bed or have a backyard party with live music. For both occasions one will need some good and genuine music. The three amigos from Atomic Thrillride got together in 2011 and bring forth the medicine you need. On their first album Chain Reaction we hear a cancellation of the future and a mighty groove that has been passed down through the rock ‘n roll ages. Their love for the seventies and all the greatness that stems from it is as equally apparent as their ability to make it all flow like a leaf on a summer Tug Fork River. With their roots firmly in hardrock they implore little bits of punk and stoner and have it all move down the stream gently and weather the occasional rapids smoothly. There is this weird atmosphere across the album that there’s something great a foot and good times are a coming. And after the mesmerizing closing track Wings Of Madness one longs for those steamy and hot days when the wind dies down. Atomic Thrillride; good people listen to good music.
