Raketkanon – RKTKN #3

Raketkanon – RKTKN #3
Alcopop – 2019
Rock, Experimental, Noise, Sludge
Rated: ***

We never really mentioned those earlier Raketkanon records. Which seems odd, since they have been grade A experimental noise and sludge and weirdness. And that is something the HiVe definitely loves. Well, the Belgian crazies are back with RKTKN #3 and we are ready to get treated to more tracks about all those weirdos that got a track named after them. Of course we shall never know for sure what their crazy exploits might have been since vocalist Pieter-Paul Devos growls wildly at us in a completely invented language. Anyway, Raketkanon’s new album is definitely crazy once again, crazy, wild and raw. But altogether more precise and thought through than earlier releases. As if the experimentation from before needed to be distilled into something that might serve a purpose. But then there’s the movement from modest or meandering to monstrous or massive which comes across as enormous and dark. Leaving the feel for this record as bouncing around between epilogue, conclusion and bridge. Which is an awful way to state that the album has brilliant moments and we wish it was filled with those…

Kapitan Korsakov – Physical Violence Is The Least Of My Priorities

Kapitan Korsakov – Physical Violence Is The Least Of My Priorities
KKK Records – 2016
Rock, Noise, Grunge, Stoner, Punk
Rated: ****

Enlisting Steve Albini to record and mix your third album shows you’re serious. Without any doubt. And even if you weren’t sure when you were enjoying the debut effort Well Hunger back in 2009 or the follow-up Stuff & Such in 2012; you will damn well be after the last tones of the new album Physical Violence Is The Least Of My Priorities die down. Kapitan Korsakov is deadly serious! Sounding even noisier than before the band has definitely took a turn towards the ruckus we know from Raketkanon, the other band of frontman Pieter-Paul Devos. On the other hand there is also more room for melodic explorations and something you might call penmanship. The writing of songs and the translation of pure emotion into sound. As said before it is noisy and growly and wild and awe-inspiring. But above all it is overwhelming in every aspect yet warmer and more human than ever before. And I will definitely drink to that!

Raketkanon – Florent

Raketkanon – Florent

We have dived deep into the world of RKTKN#2, the second album by the Belgian crazies Raketkanon. On it they display a while array of sludge, noise and psychedelic experimentation. Less manic and loud as their first album; but with more streamlined chaos, sexy clamor and with perhaps and extra supplement of crazy. Recorded with Steve Albini. And just check out the first video for the new album. Florent. And you will know where theses cats are coming from.
