We’ve been digging the Dutch trio Drive Like Maria since their first release back in 2009 and we dug them even more with their self-titled release in 2013. But when they announced they would be releasing a three-part album in EP form; I did have a minor sceptic moment about that project. Not because I immediately doubted the quality of the music. But mostly because I reckoned these kind of releases are usually meant to gather more publicity and more, well, money. Cause after releasing the album in three parts, the record is usually released in full as well. With an extra song or two. Which just bleeds the fans dry. In my opinion. But hey, who cares about that. So, how about those three EP’s? Creaor, Preserver, Destroyer. Fine, good stuff, catchy rock songs and great hooks here and there. A bit more subdued and a bit more pleasant rock, instead of rock 'n roll. But was it worth it to release them separately? What’s even stranger, is the fact that the entire album was released before the third EP appeared? Why is that? Do you want people to buy the two EP’s and then the full album, so they have eight songs double and four songs only once? There isn’t an extra track on the full record, so that’s a good thing. Or is it? I don’t know. The songs are good, but the way it was released confuses and leads away from the music. Which can never be a good thing!
