¡Pendejo! - No Te Vayas

¡Pendejo! That wild and absolutely amazing live act from the Netherlands are about to unleash their new studio album, Volcán. The record will be out on March 17th and this is the first single and video from that album. "Don't go. Stay here, with me. With you next to me, I seem bigger, better, and stronger," says singer El Pastuso about the new track No Te Vayas.

Sonic Whip

Sonic Whip

Tomorrow will be the first edition of the new Sonic Whip festival in Doornroosje, Nijmegen. And it’s quite a line-up they’ve got there! For some weird and possibly insane reason, there are still a few tickets available? Starting with Insect Ark, we get served a tasty dish of psychedelic doom noise. And then we get Church of The Cosmic Skull, Pendejo, ASG, Monolord, Radio Moscow, Monster Magnet and the night ends with GNOD. A wild ride it will be! O’ and did ya know they serve good beer over there! Not just some pilsener, but all different sorts of Triple, Blonde, IPA’s and Porters. And you know the deal. Good people drink good beer, so it will be jam pack with good people!

Seeya there!

Tank86 – Obey

Tank86 – Obey
Rising Magma Records – 2015
Metal, Instrumental, Sludge, Stoner
Rated: *****

Relentless and harsh, that’s how the new album Obey by Dutch sludge formation Tank86 starts. It’s the track called Vault that pierces your brain and has your heart almost beating outside of your chest. There is absolutely nothing wrong with Vault, and it pummels your instincts and your senses and leaves you wasted on the floor hoping the rest of the album does not demand more of you. But it does! And you must obey! The tracks are so vastly outnumbering you on every front that it takes a while before you can come to grips with its totality and tonality. But when you do, suddenly, out of nowhere the sun begins to shine and the melodies and almost classic sound guitars take you off the ground and lift your spirit. And then when you are finally up there, beyond the clouds, you hear it, like an eerie trumpet call over a lost battlefield. Delivered by none other than the honorable El Pastuso from !Pendejo! you start to shiver and quake as Conquistador delivers his magic. Oh yes, there is no denying it. Obey is nothing but a masterpiece and Tank86 is commander.

Craneón – Hacia el Sol

Craneón – Hacia el Sol
Anomia – 2014
Rock, Hard, Stoner
Rated: ****

These three amigos from Madrid have gone through many line-up changes ever since the foundation was laid in 2006. After a few demo’s and an EP called Avanza in 2012 the power trio named Cranéon has finally released their full-sized debut: Hacia el Sol. And it is one hell of a killer ride. Influenced by heavy seventies and alternative nineties the twelve tracks just drive and speed and move through a varied landscape filled with towering drums and soaring guitars. And the boys add enough blues, classic elements, psychedelics and touches of Spanish passion to turn those scenes into something, wild, wonderful and ecstatic. And then when the horizon comes into view and Depresa starts its engine you hear the vocals and trumpet craziness of El Pastuso from ¡Pendejo!. Which just puts another layer of icing on already incredible cake. Cranéon is one hell of beast! Un gran gran monstruo! Monstroso!!!

¡Pendejo! – Atacames

¡Pendejo! – Atacames
Chancho/Graviton – 2014
Rock, Stoner, Metal
Rated: ****

Well, ¡Pendejo! hails from Amsterdam but sounds like it crawled out of a Mexican gutter somewhere. Not only because of the rough gritty Spanish vocals which also have this humorous side and quickly gets your brain wired to their second album Atacames. Also because there is this Latin-American metal sound drifting on their monstrous current. This is Michelin grade Menudo; which implores muddy guitar riffs and fuzz, bass slapping insanity, zany trumpets and a vocalist you have no problem imagining as a big hairy Mexican wrestler jumping around like a madmen as its prime ingredients. Yes, this is bad ass stew filled with hot peppers and 53 species of a certain type of mushroom. And this might sound like it’s a highly dangerous brew; it is just as addictive and makes you want to walk the tightrope guzzling the good stuff. Wicked! All that’s left to do is kick a Mariachi in the nuts, steal his sombrero and tequila and ride of on your donkey laughing wildly as the sun sets over the disturbing scene you created…

Gingerpig – Hidden From View

Gingerpig – Hidden From View
Suburban – 2013
Rock, Hard, Prog
Rated: ****

Their debut album The Ways Of The Gingerpig by Boudewijn Bonebakkers new outfit Gingerpig was a classy and successful adventure into the world of classic hardrock, blues, seventies rock and progressive currents. And as lover of those golden eras you could taste the pure love the guys themselves have for that time period with ever note and every melody. So after that first album; we could only wait for the next one and hope it would be just as good. Especially when news came of the departure of organ man Jarno van Es. What would that do to the sound? Well, Hidden From View continues on where the debut left us. The trio has once again delivered damn fine songs which are once again dyed with Hammond, jazzy drum fills and groovy percussion. The biggest difference is probably the feeling of the songs; much more concrete and less jammy. Even though their eclectic nature has not diminished one bit. With Run they start their raid, Nothing is the hard rocking winner and closing track Ugly Heart is the shiny black prize in the end. Brilliant!

And now we can only wait once more for their new stuff. This time around bassist Sytse Roelevink has left the band and Stef Gubbels from !Pendejo! has joined the band. What will that do?
