Danko Jones – A Rock Supreme

Danko Jones – A Rock Supreme
AFM – 2019
Rock , Hard
Rated: ***

I’ve had the pleasure of talking to Danko Jones a couple of times. Unfortunately, those times were never my best moments in interview history. I guess we never recovered from that first time when I messed up the radio interview that was going on before me because I did not recognize the journalist that was talking to him before me nor the record company representative sitting off to the side trying to intercept the rest of the press. I stumbled in from the other side, drink in hand… The taxi interview from hotel to venue the following time was only slightly better. And the third time and fourth time, well, let’s not dwell on the past. The best thing about Danko though, he sticks to his guns, knows his stuff and of course, the real best thing is the music and the live show. Don’t expect philosophical insights or political commentary about the state of the world. The best one may expect is some rock ‘n roll poetry. Some scruffy lines about being in a band, how he loves rock n roll and how he loves women. Hey, what more is there? So, it’s a new Danko Jones album. A Rock Supreme! And it is exactly what we have come to expect from the Mango Kid. Heavy stompers, rhythmic riffs and a big rock n roll sound. And hey, what more do you need?

Helldorado

Helldorado

In two weeks time the crazy train departs once again for trip through Helldorado! The festival that had it’s glorious first edition last year and is now back for more. What a ride that was! And they are upping the scale of this rock ‘n roll freakshow for the second edition! So, what you thought was weird last time around will now be mundane! Ofcourse we’re all just going for the clowns, bearded ladies, knife throwers, wrestling acts and everything bizar! But what a line-up as well!!! Monolord, Greenleaf! Kadavar! Vintage Caravan! Turbonegro! Danko Jones! Zeke! Dewolff! Nick Oliveri! Dwarves! Lucifer! Death Alley! Supersuckers! And quite a few more! Not sure what the side show will be this time around?! It might be you!!! Go grab one of the remaining tickets and join the freakshow!

Danko Jones – Fire Music

Danko Jones – Fire Music
Suburban/Bad Taste – 2015
Rock, Hard, Garage, Punk
Rated: ***

Danko Jones is always good for some good tunes and some great live shows. Danko Jones is that well-oiled rock machine that just keeps on truckin, dealing in good times and has once again delivered with their seventh studio album Fire Music. Once again with a new drummer. In this case it’s Rich Knox, who you might know from the also in Toronto based rockers: Flash Lightning. And once again it makes little difference, cause the Mango Kid and John Calabrese are handing out doses of testosterone like mad and crazy rock ‘n roll professors. The biggest difference is perhaps the amount of angry songs on this album and the lesser quantity of tracks about the female beauty. Well, and we assume the guys also wanted to push up their punky edge. Their Misfits edge. Cause Danko loves Danzig and everything the man has ever done. Especially the Misfits stuff. So if you feel like hearing that band through a Danko Jones filter, check out Fire Music. And you can scream, shout and holler along with Danko. Just as you could in past and always will be able to in the future…

Danko Jones – Rock and Roll is Black and Blue

Danko Jones – Rock and Roll is Black and Blue
Bad Taste / Suburban – 2012
Rock, Hard
Rated: ****

Rock and Roll is Black and Blue. Nah. Rock And Roll is Danko Jones! For you can always trust the man to deliver the good times. Sure you can let yourself wallow in all the tragic love songs, depressing times, difficult childhood’s and world issues. But we’d rather follow Danko down to the bar where he tries to score with every little lady in sight. Singing songs about every little part of her body and not care about etiquette or political correctness. Mean, sordid and heavy hardrock straight to the core and freakishly big boned. And on this record he’s definitely meaner and sincerer then on the two albums that came before. So if you wanna see the oil in your car start to boil or the blood in your veins start to scream: ‘party time!’  Then take heed and go no further; for it’s time to get your head bashed and turn all black and blue!
