Stoner Hive’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner Hive’s Quick Fire Friday

We defy all them goddamn rules! Don’t do a Quick Fire Friday on the day the new Doom Charts edition goes online… It’s not like that rule is written in stone! But it is written on Stoner HiVe that we want to pay attention to so much great music, but there is too little time to do it all. So we came up with a way to shoot out a quick blurb and hope it will entice you to listen to the single or the entire discography! So here it is… Another Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday! And it burns hot like molten lava!

Mientras Las Abejas Duermen - El Camino Silencioso

It’s the first single for the debut album by the new out from Cádiz, Spain called As The Bees Sleep or in Spanish: Mientras Las Abejas Duermen. Which means there's another reason they fit perfectly on Stoner HiVe. Grin! Especially since the very earthy eight minute long single El Camino Silencioso will have you on the edge of the seat for its truly wonderful and accomplished sound. Shifting from slow, atmospheric passages to heavier moments, this one single promises so much. Let’s all keep an eye out for 2026, when these sleeping bees will buzz fully awake, with vinyl on Kozmik Artifactz

Hidden Since the Foundation of the World – Bad Winter

Hidden Since the Foundation of the World is a new four-piece from Amsterdamn, that combines doom with drone, atmospheric with rock noir, psych with metal and gaze with heaviness. And the result is something entirely unpredictable and apocalyptic. They’ve released more tracks, but the icy soundscape whine that is Bad Winter will not leave you cold. Cinematic and gripping, that one track might even make you long for an incredibly Bad Winter… Just so you can play this track over and over...

Doublestone - De Falske Kongers Tid

You know they’re back right? And have been since September! The Danish trio Doublestone! One single so far, The False King, De Falske Kongers Tid. We can only hope this is the start of a new chapter, a new roll of the dice and a new hand of cards. For even though we only ever mentioned their Wingmakers album on Stoner HiVe, we have always loved all they’ve put out. All of it!

Bear, Man Dangerous – When We Cease To Understand The World

We’re already there, sweet Bear, Man Dangerous. Aren’t we? I sure as hell can't make heads of tails out of most of everything anymore... But still, their new track When We Cease To Understand The World expertly twists genres into knots and lights them on fire. Shoegaze bleeds into sludge; psychedelia melts into doom. It’s beautiful, ugly, and utterly consuming, almost chokingly so!

Minot - Walls//People Pleaser

Lo-fi garage punk. Indeed, that’s Minot for ya! But upbeat! A three piece from Missoula, Montana that goes all the way back to the sixties and hits you with a Sonics kind of attitude. A jittery fuzz tale, where one track rattles like fluorescent cubicle blues and frustrated howls into the void. Flipside People Pleaser drifts in sugary decay, ghostly pop haunts the hop. Sparse drums, raw pulse, garage grit. Heartbeat breakdown, smokey honesty and a rhythm you can’t shake! I like Minot!

Tempted? – For You Only

Artizans PR are always spreading the good word about some great new rock bands! Usually from the Mediterranean. And new fourpiece Tempted? hails from Greece! For You Only is the first single for an album that will probably see the light somewhere in 2026. Nineties vibing and grunge toned, the songs sings about a ‘deep romantic disappointment’ . Which ofcourse fits snugly with the grunge influences. I’m tempted to announce that Tempted? might just be one of the great bands to emerge out of Greece next year!

Wickermän – Dagsländan

"Dagsländan" or "The Mayfly" as it would translate to in English is a short poem written by the Linnéa Wetterbrandt, a close friend to the band. The text is a short reflection on how life would have been if we only got to live, just like a mayfly, for one day. It’s their second single but our first foray into the world of formed in this year, Wickermän and we certainly hope not our last. This isn’t one day fly material, but honest hard rock, seventies touches, stonerized moments and prog oriented. A new Swedish band to watch out for!

There Is No Spoon - The Sound Of Doom To Come [Part 1]

There Is No Spoon is a four piece instrumental band from Berlin, Germany that obviously wants to marry the existentialism and metaphysical to their atmospheric doom metal and art rock. A bit of drone and a bit of noise and promise that the three track The Sound Of Doom To Come [Part 1] is the first of four parts that chronicle a world collapsing under the weight of its own noise… Let’s keep an ear out for that!

Stoner HiVe’s Top 5 Artists listened to last week…

Stoner HiVe’s
Top 5 Artists listened to last week…

As we try to get our head clean again after the amazing Helldorado festival; we post a quick list of the most listened to artists of last week. Which ofcourse should have gone up yesterday… And it ofcourse features Steel Panther, due to an interview last Friday and Red Fang because we were lucky enough to have an interview scheduled at that majestic Helldorado festival we already mentioned. We revisited the Doublestone album Devil’s Own released by Ripple Music. Since we are approaching the end of the year already we are revisiting all those marked albums, the ones marked as one the favorites for 2017. And Doublestone definitely belongs on that list! Spacelord was another one of those. What an absolute smash ‘n grab album! Same goes for Motherslug’s very own Electric Dunes of Titan! Slow and heavy it’s a titanic mountain of riffs and groove! Check ‘m out! Check ‘m all out!

Stoner HiVe's Top 5 Artists listened to last week

Stoner HiVe's
Top 5 Artists listened to last week:

Let’s not address the smoldering elephant in the room or state the obvious and just list the amazing bands we have been listening to the past days. Like the new Millionaire. In preparation for the interview with Timmy ‘Tipover’ Vanhamel the new album Sciencing has been on repeat like crazy. Also, because it is once again a damn fine album! Hey, and when Madman Tony Maim claims that the Machinations album by Hark is our salvation. Then we listen and keep on returning to its magnificent tunes. The new album Witchbanger by the heavy psychedelic rockers called Duel is once again filled with intense riffs and a dark and twisted take on everything proto. Released in November 2016 this Into The Storm album grabbed my attention thank to the title: Where The Merfalo Roam. Anyone referencing Oscar Zeta Acosta is alright in my book and can get a beer from my anytime. Especially when it is this fine piece of sludge metal and noisy doom. Ever since the amazing Doublestone we have been peaked again for anything Danish. And our wish is granted immediately with the amazing psychedelic trio named The Sonic Dawn. Into The Long Night, their fourth release, is everything you want from free freak styled acid rock and sixties garage. Wild, boisterous, swirling and intoxicating...

Don’t take the green acid though… That’s for the bassplayer!

Stoner HiVe's Top 5 Artists listened to last week

Stoner HiVe's
Top 5 Artists listened to last week:

It’s been a magnificent week once again, with so many great releases to listen to. It makes a man want to cry, tears of happiness, of joy and of some weird form of weariness. How in hell are we going to continue on like this? Great record upon great record coming out and so much history and back catalogue to listen to? Shit man, feeling overwhelmed again. Which is only logical when listening to the new Doublestone album. We had been eagerly awaiting new stuff since their amazing Wingmakers album from 2013. And it is finally here! Double U, O, double you! They doubled up on everything on Devil's Own and won big. The Danish deliver once again on everything we love from seventies inspired psychedelic rock, doom and hardrock with a stoner twist here and there and the blues roots growing wild. Another one we had been giddy about, was the new Royal Thunder. Cause we loved Crooked Doors and CVI even more! So, Wick has been running circles in our head; and made it so We Never Fall Sleep. Even more ambitious than what came before the album marries so much assorted styles and it is so different, we cannot do anything else but fall head over heels with it. Will this infatuation last? We shall see! Stonerpunk, stonercore, post-stoner. All new and all crazy labels for a band called Bokassa! They all fit like a glove for their new album Divide & Conquer. It’s aggressive and energetic as well as chaotic. But it does have a softer, more imaginative side. And it is once again this paradox that makes these Norwegians so great to listen to! A completely different animal is Ha Ha Tonka, their southern tinged roots rock meets folk and Americana turns only a few psychedelic corners on occasion on their new Heart-Shaped Mountain album. And we have Doom Chart buddy Bucky to blame for turning us into Tonka toting freaks. Woodhawk came to us from all angles. Which is only logical, for their Beyond The Sun release is simply a feast of awesome riffs and fine grooves. A no brainer, absolute love fest for all the fuzz junkies, desert users and stoner addicts out there. We are good people and we listen to good music! All day, every day. All the time!

Doublestone – Wingmakers

Doublestone – Wingmakers
Levitation Records – 2013
Rock, Stoner, Hard, Seventies, Psych, Doom
Rated: *****

Copenhagen. One of those cities that just begs for weird and twisted adventures. And riding that highly futuristic train late a night when you’re out of your mind is worth the trip alone. And here’s another reason to travel to Denmark; the three amigo’s from Doublestone. With their new full-sized album Wingmakers they have delivered some grade A seventies inspired rock that implores the best from the doom and stoner genres that we all love so dearly. The vocalist has that chased quality that makes this kind of music quickly rise above the rest of the field. It’s a simple but difficult feat to accomplish; making the riffs, rhythms and melodies, the trucking, the soloing and riveting exploring fill each other’s gaps to sheer perfection. This is without a doubt the best ‘retro’ minded album released this year. A definite contender for the top region of the Stoner HiVe top 20. Which will commence in a few weeks...
