Well, the past week shot by! With very little time to do some Stoner HiVe work. But we still managed to get a few posts up. We jotted down a few words about the wonderful new version of Pink Floyd Live At Pompeii, Fusskalt’s new Faceless Man release, the new Red Mess called Hi-Tech Starvation and the amazing new The Big Rip EP Olympus Mons. Which has been on repeat for the past week. We will try to do a bit more this week. But as usual, we can’t promise anything…

Red Mess – Hi-Tech Starvation

Red Mess – Hi-Tech Starvation
Noisolution – 2025
Rock, Grunge, Stoner
Rated: ****

The first single for their new album Hi-Tech Starvation is called Huntress and was released May 23rd, and there are six more damn gritty grunge and stoner anthems on the new Red Mess record. The three Brazilians now based in Berlin, got this knack for infusing a bit of noise, a bit of punk, a bit of blues and even a bit of funk into their grunge and stoner. This makes their sound recognizable and extra infectious. Inexistent Color, with its high dynamics. Ransomware with its thunderous ending. Intravenous with a more metal based approach for the intro and then opening into a melody that reminds of nineties alternative greatness. Because raw and wild in that middle section and turning the song into the track which seems to encapsulate a lot of the different aspects of Red Mess and their new Hi-Tech Starvation. All the different elements have their time to play the field. And then going into that two minute long more stoner trucking track that is Xenon seems like the pay-off that wasn’t even necessary and therefor feels extra rewarding. Makes you want to howl, just like bassist/vocalist Lucas Klepa does in following Kind Villain… Hi-Tech Starvation has everything to fill your every need and give you all sorts of satisfaction. Red Mess is back, get served!

You can listen to the first single Huntress of the upcoming album "Hi-Tech Starvation" now and be hungry for the rest to be released in August by Noisolution.

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

We haven’t done a Quick Fire Friday since December 2022! And because we haven’t done since last year, we take Quick Fire Friday session back into that year. Why not, right? We can do whatever we want and there is so much music being released every day, it is impossible to keep up. Luckily there are all kinds of blogs, zines, sites and podcasts to help us all out. And of course those monthly Doom Charts. But now, on this Friday we take it back to 2022 and party like 2023 hasn’t even happened yet. And you know the deal… There is so much out there, so much good and heavy stuff, and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. So here it is. Another Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Friday! And it burns hot like molten lava!

Lord Of Confusion – Evil Mystery

Psychedelic stoner doom with nightmarish qualities straight out of the heart of Portugal! It’s four-piece Lord Of Confusion and their Evil Mystery album. Released somewhere in September 2022, the organ laced six track album has that classic doom feel and a definite air freezing, harrowing atmosphere. Evil Mystery came out on Gruesome Records and Morbid And Miserable Records, and will see you howling under a blood red moon…

WinterMoonShade – Eternal Haunted Shores

More Portugal and more, way more, darkness… WinterMoonShade are an atmospheric black metal trio inspired by Nature, Spirituality, Dreams and Nightmares. Which are perfect for your haunting black and death metal druids of course. Never shying away from grandiose gestures and relics of symbolism, the nine tracks of Eternal Haunted Shores will easily freeze your spirit and crush your soul… The wind is howling…

Red Mess – Breathtaker

The Red Mess three hail from Brazil, and with their eight track album Breathtaker they give you all the grungy stoner and gritty psychedelics you can handle. Out on All Good Clean Records and Stickman Records since October of 2022, this raw diamond sprinkles something noisy and alternative sound among all its stonerrock heaviness, leaving you in awe and tired, and worn, fulfilled and with a heart full of glee, and yes, breathless…

Fish Basket - Imaginarium

Fish Basket, released their music video for the song Imaginarium back in October 2022. The instrumental, progressive and psychedelic trio created the video for the Imaginarium song using AI. The result is something of a short sci-fi movie that fits perfectly with the music. “The recipe for the Imaginarium is locked behind the ancient doors. Three brave hunters are sent on a mission to get the three mysterious scrolls needed to open them... but somebody doesn't like it at all.” They stated. Well, whatever that evil might be, we love the outcome!

Waste A Saint - Hypercarnivore

We mentioned their The Healer single, but never got around to writing something about the full Hypercarnivore album! We should be flogged for that, for Waste A Saint is awesome! The quartet from Trondheim, Norway, give you nine highly electrifying alternative rock tracks. Garage, stonerrock, hardrock and everything extremely sexy and highly danceable. It all sounds like the kind of music you desperately need to experience in a live setting, in a sweaty, completely packed venue… Best be keeping an eye out for their tourdates..

Dope Skum – Folk Magic

The Dope Skum single Folk Magic came out in October 2022 and is the lead single for the Gutter South five track coming out in April 2023. The duo’s steaming, sweltering hot sludge and fuzzed out doom, comes at you with sharp punky edges and filthy metal. And still has some much groove and bounce it will surely have you bopping your head like some crazed muppet…

Doubtsower - The Endless Shadow of Despicable Power

Somewhere in a dark and twisted gutter in the UK lives Matt Strangis, the sole performer behind that one man project called Doubtsower. The man behind Unbidden Audio released his second Doubtsower project The Endless Shadow of Despicable Power back in December of 2022. Blackened doom metal, with overtones of electronic and ambient atmospheres and experimentation. Which means there is a small spotlight shining on all that dim gloom and bleak doom. The shadow therefor does not seem completely endless, but it’s definitely long and malevolent…

Dead King's Peace - Dead King's Peace

Let’s end this Quick Fire Friday session, with some motoring, high speed, high octane, hard rocking and rolling! The five, but now I believe to be four piece, from Indianapolis, Indiana, USA called Dead King's Peace give you nine tracks of stoner metal, grunge and doomy hardrock on their self-titled release from November. The perfect soundtrack for an honest run down the coast, at the dead of night, when the moon is out and headlights aren’t even necessary. Hitting those curves to clear your head, and let the howling wind be the underscore for all that metal roughness from Dead King's Peace…

The Doom Charts for October 2022

Doom Charts

“Yo, when is the November Charts? I can’t live like this!”

~ Sifir Rakam
“I can’t get into doomcharts here in the UK!? The most recent entry is for 3 Wheeler Band, that Halloween posting. Has something got stuck or …?”

~ Paul Hennelly

The amount of emails and messages we received from all of you in distress about what was keeping the new Doom Charts were heartwarming. Even though we reckoned we made it abundantly clear that the publishing date for the Doom Charts had moved from the 1st of every month to the 1st Friday of every month. This would enable more Contributors to do more work for the Doom Charts and might give more credit to albums released on the final days of the month… And there are so many albums released monthly, during the whole month and on those final days that it still often feels unbearable to not be able to pay attention to them all… Below are 38 all NEW heavy rock albums! Thirthy-eight, but any shift in votes might have resulted in a different version. Cause I don’t know if you’ve seen some of the lists the Contributors posted on their own sites? Many have only a handful or perhaps a few more than a handful of votes for the same albums. And yes, you can safely bet that those other records on their respectives lists are stunning as well… Sometimes it feels wrong to not do even more for those albums, but I guess the Doom Charts are purely here to state clearly that the ones listed here, those Forty albums, of the 268 that received votes this month, are the absolute cream of the crop. The cherries on the doom pie, the pick of the heavy litter, the albums filled with every stoner bell and psychedelic whistle you can wish for… And when they arrive with such a loud bang as this months Number One… You can bet your furry little ass that it’s something special! It’s the First Friday of the Month and it’s the October Doom Charts

The October Doom Charts just went live!

The first time we publish on the First Friday of the month... Which we will do henceforth... The Doom Charts, featuring forty heavy rock albums all ready to rock your world! Personal votes that made the list went out to:

All Souls, Black Space Riders, Elder, Liquid Earth, King Buffalo, Sahg, Black Math Horseman, Red Mess, Lágoon, Faith In Jane, Thammuz, Near Dusk, Psychonaut, Half Gramme Of Soma, Ruby The Hatchet and The Otolith...

And we shall spin all Forty of them in a row again! Starting with awesome Vampiric Visions Vol. I: Living Blood album by Lady Luna And The Devil! Go find your new favorite one or share the ones you feel should have been on the Charts!?!

Welcome to Doom Charts, representing some of the finest bloggers, journalists, radio, podcasters and reviewers from the heavy underground around the globe.  Each month, our critics submit their picks for the best new doom, sludge, metal, stoner, psychedelic and heavy rock albums.  The results are compiled and tabulated into the chart below.  This is a one-stop shop for the best new albums in the world…
