Video Premiere - Ghost Frog – Shadow Club

Video Premiere - Ghost Frog – Shadow Club

It was the year of 2020 when the Portland four named Ghost Frog graced us with that damn fine release Astral Arcade. And come tomorrow we are a month away for the release of the stunning new Galactic Mini Golf album. To celebrate that fact, and to honor the spooky season that’s upon us, the spectral boys that quack have produced a wild new video for their latest single Shadow Club. Man, what a track, as you already know, the song transports you back to the height of the grunge days, and so does the video! That's right lazy nineties alternative, some psych and high fidelity head nod that will surely make you buy multiple copies of the single and pre-order a least five copies of the new Galactic Mini Golf album.  A touch of slacker, a bit of shoegaze and a whole lot of conspiracy! I always had my doubts about golf! Click play, drink that kool-aid!

PR Wire:

Fore! Shot straight down the fairway like a ball out of hell, here comes the latest conspiracy and secret society themed music video by Portland, OR’s paranormal space punk veterans Ghost Frog for the conspira-single “Shadow Club” off their soon to be released new album, “Galactic Mini Golf.”

Quinn Schwartz, The band’s singer, who wrote the video and also stars in it, recruited local filmmaker Joel Gaddis, his coworker at the last remaining video store in Portland, Movie Madness, to handle cinematography and editing for the project. The video also stars the other members of the band as the titular “Shadow Club”: guitarist Karl Beheim, bassist Archie Heald, and drummer Vincent Lirocchi.

In it we find an eccentric conspiracy researcher who is obsessed with a certain group of rich and powerful men who he thinks are part of a nefarious, secretive organization called the “Shadow Club.” This character is an amalgamation of various media personalities including Joe Rogan, Alex Jones, Steven Seagal, and especially Fred Durst, who the band share a special affinity for as many of them are also in a Limp Bizkit tribute band together.

Convinced that the Club are up to no good, this intensely curious researcher sets out to get to the bottom of what they’re hiding, which leads him down a dangerous, winding path full of strange and unexpected revelations. The video was inspired by the filmmakers' fascination with paranoid thriller films like “Conspiracy Theory,” “The Parallax View,” and “Eyes Wide Shut,” combined with their love of trashy 80’s and 90’s action movies (the basic premise was Chuck Norris vs. the Illuminati). They even filmed part of the video outside of the infamous Oculus Anubis property in Damascus, Oregon, a mysterious local site which has long been a hotbed for conspiracy theories and urban legends.

Are you ready to learn the terrifying truth about the “Shadow Club”?

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Friday

Hi my fellow heavy music fiends! It’s been awhile… A while since we did a Quick Fire Friday segment! And with the new Doom Charts Peroration post coming online later on, there will be tons of music for everyone to dig into! Can you handle the deluge? Well, we’ll keep the amount of words about the list below to a minimum. And we know… There is so much out there, so much good and heavy stuff, and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. But here it is… Another Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Friday! And it burns hot like molten lava!

Orme – No Serpents, No Saviours

And all those times I visited Hertfordshire, I never knew it was bristling with all this heavy underground talent! But Orme (not the Toulouse, France one) is yet another outfit from that area, and they bring you ten ton heaviness in glorious form! The form of a one track, almost twenty-five minute long, death-doom No Serpents, No Saviours. Coming out on August 23rd, this is one big droning extravaganza that will decimate and leave you weak and weary. The unholy whispers being the only respite keeping you from the absolute end of your tether…

Aten – Aten

Australian experimental metal with a droning edge, sludge tones, grindcore and post-metal influences. That’s the Aten project that releases it’s  debut album through Lint Music. Which is only logical since the man behind this project is Brad Hayne the founder of Lint Music founder and Cell Temple. Not to be confused with the death metal outfit Aten from Iceland or the other death metal one from Albania. A lot of Aten, and this Aten is a lot! Not completely wasted by listening to Orme yet?  Well, dive into Aten and be totally obliterated…

Vibravoid – On Empty Streets

Out. Just now! The new single and video On Emptry Streets by psychedelic stalwarts Vibravoid! Taken from their new We Cannot Awake album out August 23rd through Tonzonen Records. It’s their own tasty mixture of neo-kraut and psychedelic rock, urging beats with an eighties touch and signals coming in from a not too distant future or neighboring dimension, dystopian and estranging. But very captivating!

Ghost Frog – Shadow Club

More dystopia for you all! This time coming in from the Portland four named Ghost Frog! The first single Shadow Club for their Galactic Mini Golf album coming out November 5, 2024. A bit of grunge and that lazy nineties alternative, some psych and high fidelity head nod that will surely make you buy multiple copies of this single.

Volume – Joy of Navigation

Patrick Brink (Fu Manchu), Ed Mundell (Monster Magnet), Mike Amster (Nebula, Spoon Benders), Dave Catching, now there’s a list of names that will run a fever instantaneously! It’s Volume and their new single Joy of Navigation of the album with the same name. It comes out November 1st through Golden Robot Records and Kozmik Artifactz. Recorded at Rancho De La Luna it had that desert punk vibe as much as nods back to the sixties. Infectious and kicking out every kind of jam!

In Ashes – Burned & Disposed

Guadalajara, Mexico seems to be a well of inspiration and a cesspool of gritty doom. In Ashes is a new four piece founded in 2023 and Burned & Disposed is their debut two-track release. A filthy atmosphere filled with despair, portrayed by traditional doom and always metal toned. And then they suddenly add this otherworld guitar part in Arson. And open up with all their abilities even more during the majestic Day One track. I need to call Rob Hammer to get him to nail this down!

Your Highness - Fire To The Storm

Out for a month or two, it naturally escaped out attention cause we were on an off grid holiday! But luckily, Your Highness always finds a way to crawl back into your blood! And Fire To The Storm will not just set fire to the storm, but also your blood and soul! Stoner metal, hardcore elements, sludge toned and absolutely wonderful. It’s the first single to the new album Under The Weight, coming out October 11th on Polderrecords.

Ghost Frog – Astral Arcade

Ghost Frog – Astral Arcade
Self released – 2020
Rock, Stoner, Psych, Noise, Space, Punk
Rated: ****

For a moment there I thought there was something wrong with my computer and I was back in the early nineteen eighties again. So I called up the internet hotline for computer aid, through this ancient dial up modem lying around and they immediately replied: “have you tried turning it off and on again?” Which I did and I then realized it was just the music playing in the background that made my mind warp and my lust for old arcade games grow exponentially. You see, we’ve got this ten track (cyber) space opera about extraterrestrial life, the universe and video games called Astral Arcade playing. And where opening track Data Slave sets the mood softly, sweetly and gets you in the mood for something bigger. It’s tv-series IT-Crowd reminiscent (or Gary Numan) second track Kill Screen that turn you into a 8 bit character trying to escape a mansion or wanting to be a pirate within seconds. Noisy, psychedelic space punk that will turn your love for stoner into one gigantic sci-fi maelstrom; blasting you through the universe in Arkanoid fashion and bouncing you off fuzzy or atmospheric walls. Are we taking all these references a bit too far? Hell no, and neither is Portland four-piece Ghost Frog! On Astral Arcade they touch every key exactly right and found the cheat code for unlimited plays. No need for coins, just hit play! Look behind you a three-headed monkey!

First off we congratulate Doktor420 with his birthday today! Have a great one maestro! And well, we’ve closed off the list publishing process of 2020 yesterday with the Most Scrobbled Top 30 of 2020. We start to look forward; but not completely. Cause there have been so many albums released in November and December. Some of which we still desperately want to mention. So the next few weeks will still see posts about 2020 albums mixed through all those new 2021 releases we need to get word out about; before we truly get on with the regular show. But there will be nothing regular about the next weeks. Cause hottdamn! Rose Of Jericho by Komatsu is one hell of a cracker! And so if Heavy Feather’s Mountain of Sugar! Or what about that new Here Lies Man album Ritual Divination! And Shasta Beast is about to get you all riled up about Wall! Indeed; there is already much to enjoy in these first weeks of 2021! So let’s check’m out! Let’s check’m all out!
