Last week the new July Doom Charts went live, an incredible list with new albums, all worth your time. And on Stoner HiVe we premiered the new Superseed single and wrote a few words about their new album Tremor. Published a few words about Phantom Spell and Adjustable Mustard. And lets not forget that awesome festival, happening in Leeuwarden, Netherlands, September 27th : Into The Void! Check out the albums above either through the bandcamp links provided or the Spotify Playlist below… I know at least one of you lovely music freaks out there does… Ho ho ho! Have a great week!

Welcome to your Monday! May it be a lovely one and a great start of a good week! Looking at the week past, it’s been hectic and jumping in to get the June Doom Charts done, limited even more of the time available for Stoner HiVe. So, we only managed to post Doktor420’s blurb about White Noise Generator. Our own Spider Kitten and Paddang blurbs for the Doom Charts. And wrote some words about the upcoming very cool Hibernaut album and the already out there King Potenaz. Both deserving every moment of your time, just like it did mine. And the same goes for Birds of Nazca. Love that band! Check out their new single! And check all the others out, it’s good and it’s heavy!

Spider Kitten – The Truth Is Caustic To Love

Spider Kitten – The Truth Is Caustic To Love
APF Records – 2025
Alternative, Grunge, Sludge, Americana
Rated: ***

It was the foul year of our lord 2021 when we first mentioned a Spider Kitten album on the HiVe. It wasn’t our first dive into the Spider Kitten universe; it was however the record that tangled us up and made us stick around for all the decided to weave afterwards. Like that damn fine and once again different A Pound For The Peacebringer from 2023. For yes, it’s Spider Kitten. They do things differently. Every time again. Changing things up with every album released. Even though dust never gets the chance to settle when one is referring to Spider Kitten. The new album The Truth Is Caustic To Love is once again a different side of the beast, stretching yet another one of its many legs. Fourteen songs, thirty-seven minutes. Grunge powering down, sludge slamming it home, offset by Americana touched strumming and open, personal and vulnerable songwriting that turns many of the songs into a confessional statement. Another album that weaves and builds their gigantic web of heaviness…

G’morn! We used to do this little tom-tom write up at the bottom of the weekly list. And we shall try to start that up again. A sort of glance back on the week that has passed. So, as we are still recovering from the Phe album release party from Saturday, that was a good party! We’ll try to keep it short and sweet… September had a gazillion great releases; and October is shaping up to be the same. And we hope to write a few words about a handful of them. Last week we mentioned those two Umbra albums, by Gévaudan and Kadabra. We wrote something about Spider Kitten, The Silver Linings and Morag Tong. And we were extremely happy to see Reek of STOOM write something cool about Tumanduumband and Kyle SB about 10% Reptile. If you haven’t had the chance yet, scroll down or visit the blog to read up on those. Later on today, we’ll have another one by Kyle SB going live! But for now, we’re gonna try and get a bit of sunlight and see if we can get that head straight after that wild Phe party!

Spider Kitten – A Pound For The Peacebringer

Spider Kitten – A Pound For The Peacebringer
APF Records – 2023
Rock, Doom, Sludge, Americana
Rated: ****

We’ve always followed the cool cats named Spider Kitten. But we only really mentioned their Major Label Debut record from 2021. Well, their new one is of an entirely different level; yet still is typically Spider Kitten. Bigger in scope, slower in tempo than their grungier Major Label Debut album, A Pound For The Peacebringer is here to stomp and pound its story gradually, but severely into your heart. Filling it with a lavish amount of doom and sludge tones. But there is more, for Spider Kitten has always been about scouring through all genres for inspiration, and second track Safe To Drown for instance is a folk inspired, Americana and country ditty here to bookend the hefty tracks. And with those birds chirping away in the distance it turns into this delicate and almost lighthearted picnic scene. Fourth track God’s Song serves a similar purpose but instead of sunlight, we get a darker touch… Darker, just like the overall story of A Pound For The Peacebringer

Spider Kitten – Major Label Debut

Spider Kitten – Major Label Debut
Self released – 2021
Rock, Grunge, Stoner, Alternative, Nineties, Sludge
Rated: ****

Let us begin with the statement of intend that Spider Kitten frontman Chi Lameo put forward in his email to us: “I love grunge and 90s alternative. Our last few albums have been very proggy, long songs, dense concept, lots of synths. I just really wanted to make something a bit simpler and straightforward. Eight shorter songs that knock your socks off.” So, we know what we are in for! And their self-released newest album Major Label Debut delivers on all fronts and then some! Highly eclectic, chuck full of ideas, the album starts of with a proper stomper! A Problematic Favorite stamps a hefty imprint upon your senses, overtly sludgy and marauding like a twisted Mammoth. It shows us once again that the twenty year old Spider Kitten can do it all, which becomes all the more obvious when nineties alternative and grunge rocking The Art Of Sleeping wallops its waves of heaviness over your soul; once again imploring that sludge and massive approach to the sound. And they continue this gargantuan take throughout the album, going in more punk direction one track or even more atavistic stoner the next. There’s just one track that really irks me, for some weird and possibly insane reason. Fifth track Self Care (Makes Me Wanna Die), is a simple, straightforward punky rocker, but after having had the album on repeat the past weeks, the screaming guitar in combination with the repeated vocal lines have become this annoying mantra that is really troubling. Maybe it’s because of a possible mirroring effect? Or maybe it’s the whole intention of the track? For me it’s the only miss on this Major Label Debut album full of hits!
