Stoner HiVe’s Top 10 Most Listened Artists Last Week…

Stoner HiVe’
Top 10 Most Listened Artists Last Week…

Earthless
Foo Fighters
Sons of Node
King Buffalo
Poly-Math
Tusoc
Qlesaar
Phantom Logic
Belzebong
Crobot

Another week has passed, one that was filled with off grid time and live energy! That’s right, the real most listened list should mention: Live Music! Cause it was Sonic Whip time! And man, what a great ride it was once again! Amazing sets followed one another like clockwork. But if we pick only one favorite from Day One it has to be Iguana Death Cult. And on the Second Day it has to be Bismut. Indeed, of course, you can rest easy knowing Earthless, The Sword, Acid King, King Buffalo, Hermano, Russian Circles and actually all the rest delivered the goods as well! And yes, we have the Temple Fang - Live At Sonic Whip vinyl... It was the absolute first thing we did entering the venue... Now, we have to get grounded again and get to work so to speak! Only two more weeks though, and then I’m off grid for three weeks… But still some good stuff to do and to listen to before that day comes! Like those Sons of Node words we managed to put up last week. We shall try to do more this week! Let’s get crackin!

Stoner HiVe’s
Top 10 Most Listened Artists Last Week…

Hermano
Qlesaar
Phantom Logic
Crobot
Earthless
Black Lung
We Follow The Earth
Deathbird Earth
Tusoc
Poly-Math

Good morning one and all! It’s Monday, the start of the week. And where last week was all about that Hermano, Solace and Troy Torino gig. What a night! Loved every minute of the Solace set and Hermano was tight and grooving and kicking ass! Man they rock! This is about Sonic Whip Festival, starting on Friday. An amazing festival, and two days filled with a stunning line-up! Can’t wait… Before we leave on Thursday, we do hope to get some HiVe work done! And predict at least one or two posts… Grin!

Just like we managed to put something up last week. A few words on the stunning Black Lung record and amazing Tusoc album. Madman Tony Maim graced us with his thoughts on American Sharks and we then did two premieres on one day! One for the kick ass single Foamdrinker from We Follow The Earth and the brilliant Mörkekraft album Fragments. Two sides of the heavy underground coin that both deserve your attention! And last but not least, because of inquiry or two, we put up a Buy Me A Coffee page. It’s a bit weird to put something like that up. But hey, why not right? It's all up in the air and we thank you for checking out the HiVe and reading our words either way... And more importantly, we talked with the main dude behind Phantom Logic, an interview that will go live on the HiVe as soon as we return from our off grid holiday in a few weeks. We are unfortunately too busy with work beforehand. Thanks for stopping by, checking out the HiVe and listening to all that’s good and heavy! Check out the list above, they all rock!

Phantom Logic – Salton Dust

Phantom Logic – Salton Dust
Glory or Death Records – 2026
Rock, Psych
Rated: ****

Not to dismiss the rest of the band, cause this is some beautiful long form psych rock! But why is it that sometimes a musician comes along that has that special something, that spark, that energy, that always manages to give a song that extra edge, that extra beauty… The single Glyphwave already felt like riding a sandstorm on a broken amplifier, with no escape possible, your body constantly filled with both serenity and electrical panic. And the entire debut album Salton Dust by Phantom Logic has that vibe and truly sounds like it was dragged out of some ghostly mirage somewhere on the edge of a desert. Sun-bleached, fuzz-drenched, and beautifully unhinged in the best possible of ways. This is heavy psych rock as a desert hallucination: twin guitars slithering and colliding like heat mirages, rhythm section locked into a sand-scorched trance and everything vibrating at its very own pitch. And yes, with Isaiah Mitchell of Earthless igniting around the edges, on every of the four tracks, the record doesn’t just drift, float, or fly, it careens, slides and explodes, turning repetition into ritual and all that majestic tone into terrain. There is no room for compromise and none needed! Why would you even want to escape from all this beauty, mesmerizing chaos and grand desert sermon for tone and volume? Indeed, it would defy all logic…

Stoner Hive’s Quick Fire Friday

Stoner Hive’s Quick Fire Friday

We've arrived on yet another final Friday of the month and we are treated once again to a Quick Fire Friday all done in famous Ronny Dijksterhuis style! Which means, this will get hot and heavy from here on in! You ready?

For old time's sake I'm listening to AC/DC's 'The Razor's Edge' for the first time in years. Cool riffage, memorable tunes, just the right amount of grit and best listened to when the volume is turned up to 11, decibel meters living in the red constantly, the risk of sound distortion and blown-up speakers lurking around the corner. Exactly what we aim for with Quick Fire Friday: destroying your sound system, your ears and your reputation as the perfect neighbour in one go, smashing your thirst (or what's left of it) for doing everything within the confinements of society's strive for political correctness to smithereens. Yes, this is another one of those moments to start the weekend the right way with a bunch of new, (un)known songs and forgotten gems. So, to speak with that AC/DC classic that's about to start right now while writing these very words: "Are you ready for a good time?". A rhetorical question of course, because I bet you are and I know you'll be as blown away as us by the goodies listed below.

Trance Bill - Violent Impulsive Primitive

Trance Bill (Rodolphe of Mud Spencer) unleashed a surprising debut album last year and is already back with a follow up. The EP, titled 'Violent Impulsive Primitive' is exactly that and brings his stonerized, surfed-up psych rock garage punk to another level, drenched in some of the nastiest fuzz you've ever heard. Another great release rising from the Indonesian soil.

 Freedom Run - Soul Eater

Also from Indonesia comes another solo project called Freedom Run, a name more likely than not taken from the Kyuss song with the same name. Some shoes to fill, but Ghifari Hakim delivers ear-shattering, groove-driven stoner metal with a doom undercurrent that hands out punch after punch without giving you any room to breathe for the entire running time of the four track debut EP 'Soul Eater'. Great stuff and maybe there's a possibility to see Freedom Run live at some point, given the fact there are two full band rehearsal video's on Hakim's YouTube page. As the slogan goes: to be continued...

Mauled - When Your Eyes Are Shut

We get into even heavier territory with Mauled's low-tuned blackened sludge that leapfrogs the act of throwing punches and aims straight for your throat with a spiked belt, choking you to submission while violently belting in your face, spit drooling from the mouth of death. Even though what's being said gets drowned in an overdose of indecipherable screams and growls, you will exactly know what to do: drop to your knees and bow to the lords of aggression before you get mauled even more.

Okay You Win – Smoke

'Smoke' is the lead single from 'End of Days', the upcoming debut album by London rockers Okay You Win. It's an organic blend of British metal from the eighties, nineties grunge and dusty desert rock, but above all a great song played to perfection as it flows smoothly from section to section, from head-nodding up-tempo grooves to moments of restraint and back again with a singer who can deliver the goods in every way. A stunning preview for what promises to be an incredible album if the other songs can match the quality of 'Smoke'.

High Fade – Swamp

High Fade isn't a band that makes a lot of music fit for Stoner HiVe and on their new single 'Swamp' they start out as the funky rockband they are. But during the guitar solo it veers into heavy psych territory before ending with a damp, sweaty stoner groove. And all of that in less than three and a half minutes. I personally love this song and expect you might too.

Pussy Miel - Don't Know

On their Bandcamp page these French ladies proclaim that Pussy Miel stands for the brute energy of punk, the heavy drowsiness of stoner and the sweet taste of honey. That more or less fits the bill, although the only real stoner song on their new ep 'Bee Raged' is the opening track titled 'Don't Know' - a very good song that shows they're at their best when laying down those catchy stoner grooves with a bit of female flair. Hopefully there'll be more of that in the future. But, to be fair and give them the credit they deserve, the other five songs aren't bad either (pretty good actually). If you like punk noise with a ragged edge from time to time, we highly recommend checking out the entire ep.

Creek Devil - Boot Scootin' in Blood

Fuck, how could we at Stoner HiVe have missed out on Creek Devil's 'Boot Scootin' in Blood' EP way back in October 2025? Because this is some heavy southern stoner metal in the vein of Borgo Pass, Down and Corrosion of Conformity, coming at you like a supercharged bulldozer flattening the Appalachian Mountains in their home state of Tennessee while wielding bottles of illegal liquor and shooting at the hats of innocent bystanders with a Colt .45. Oh yeah, their take on ZZ Top's 'Tush' is damn fine too.

BLKE – Heat

Last year Berlin-based British band BLKE surprised us with their debut EP 'Living Without Expectations' consisting of five noise and psych rock songs skirting the borders of kraut. It's no  surprise they got picked up by the famed Tonzonen Records where you can find the best of the best in the German music scene. 'Heat' is a repetitive, hypnotic, mind-bending psychedelic krautrock masterpiece and the second single from their upcoming full length album, simply titled BLKE, set for release in May 2026.

The Heavy Eyes - Troublesome Priest

The Heavy Eyes from Memphis, Tennessee have always been kind of an up and down affair. Sometimes playing heavy, fuzzed-out bluesy stoner that bursts with energy, but ever so often missing the mark when the spark isn't quite there. Therefore we were over the moon hearing their brand new single 'Troublesome Priest'. One of their grittiest tunes where the blues growls, the desert fuzz stings and the muddy swamp sucks you in. A burning hot appetiser for their new album 'Focus' (street date: June 12th 2026).

Phantom Logic – Glyphwave

And to round things off, here's something you've all been waiting for without knowing it. Just a few days ago Glory or Death Records announced the debut album from Phantom Logic by releasing the single 'Glyphwave'. Heavy psychedelic rock with a hint of stoner and a freedom that brings to mind the greatest jam bands in the history of mankind. Not strange considering Isaiah Mitchel from Earthless is one of the band members. And to arguably give an even more accurate description of what's on offer here, let's cite the promo poster for the album: this is "beauty and chaos, held together by guitars". We couldn't have said it any better.

The Elven – Solstice

The Elven – Solstice
Spinda Records / Clostridium Records / Echodelick Records – 2025
Rock, Hardrock, Classic, Psych, Roots, Seventies
Rated: *****

Radiating warmth and blissful harmony, the brand new outfit The Elven have released the perfect spring and summer time album with Solstice. Heralding the coming of a new season, a new sound, steeped in love, freedom and the music of yesteryear. With grace and poise they dip their toes in as much of the classic stuff as they can handle, never shying away from using seventies, roots, blues and psych to touch up their hardrock. Ever since the first single Shine was released The Elven has been on heavy rotation over here. And whenever the sun blessed me with its rays, The Elven would be spun first, as we gazed skywards and thanked the energy bestowed upon me. And if you haven’t yet gotten acquainted with this new project through the first single Shine or their second single Closer To Freedom, let us jot down once more who The Elven are. Born during those weird pandemic times, the project is comprised out of bassist Rod Tirado and guitarist/vocalist James Vieco of Saturna fame. Who managed to rope in their friend Isaiah Mitchell from Earthless to lay down his guitar prowess. And with added keyboardist Tabatha Puig from The Capaces and drummer Javi Gómez from Patente De Corso, they managed to get together and write for one whole month. The result of which are the eight songs on the Solstice album...

Which starts out  with that brilliant Shine track. Not just a single, but a prayer and so soulful, that it will immediately warm every fiber of your being. And those vocals, James Vieco sounds completely in synch with this track, the composition and its meaning, delivering it so pure, honest and with touch of gruff that runs straight from his heart to yours. Far Beyond is that classic seventies stroll, that riverside walk that stops at the pier and has you gaze off into the distance, determined to beat on, boats against the current. Followed by Closer To Freedom, slowing you even more down, to a stop, to an inhale that will fill you with nothing but energy as you let go of all those desperate thoughts, the memories of those ten thousands mistakes, and embrace forgiveness. Translated so beautiful by the vocals and the guitar lines that brush ever so lovely beneath the voice. With New Pair Of Wings, we come to the most current, even pop sensible, track of the album. Light as a feather, its meandering build will surely lift you up and send you off as high as you can possibly be, the flight punctuated by a lovely guitar solo, which stops as the track gets a minutely wilder sequence, until break down. Stand Right Next To Me, with a jazzy touch, courtesy of a saxophone brought to you by Juan Lichter and a guitar that riffs off the sax and the percussion that keeps this comfortable and confident bop and swing going. The longest track on the album, sits so snugly in the middle of the album, it will make you long to dance tightly together with all those stranger you might meet at a roof top party somewhere on a warm and sweltering night. Out The Door, with lovely key work, gives of most of the Black Crowes boogie and the Southern touch they usually bring to the table. But this table is set for you to dance upon, arms constantly in the air and shuffling those like crazy. Slower, gruff crooner, Wherever I Go follows, is that soulful early seventies rock once again, although the guitar tone of the solo also has a bit of middle nineties, but as the keys meander throughout the composition, and the guitar shambles across, the overall atmosphere is that of vintage love once again. Final track All Of A Sudden feels like that peaceful glade in the middle of the forest, filled with flowers and a sun that will always break through the clouds at the perfect moment. It is the instrumental outro, which lets both guitar and piano become that sunray once again, filling you with warmth and understanding. Preparing you for a new time, a new season and a chance to do whatever you need to do. Like a first day of spring can do…

The Elven – Closer To Freedom

The Elven – Closer To Freedom

It does give off that atmosphere, a spring sun and a form of freedom many of us long for. It’s the new, second single, by that brand new outfit The Elven. The project made up out of members from Saturna and Earthless and who will be releasing their debut album through Spinda Records (ES), in a new collaboration with Clostridium Records (DE) and Echodelick Records (US) on April 3rd. A beautiful song called Closer To Freedom will stop you in your tracks, will make you face the sun and breathe…

PR Wire:

The Elven drop "Closer to freedom" as their second single...

It's been already a month since The Elven presented themselves to the world with their first-ever single "Shine". But now it's time for "Closer to freedom", the second and last track that they will reveal before April 3, 2025, the date when their debut album 'Solstice' will be released through Spinda Records.

What began at the end of 2020 as an irrational need to compose music by Rod Tirado and James Vieco from Saturna soon took on a different identity when they brought in their friends Isaiah Mitchell (Earthless) on lead guitar, Tabatha Puig on keyboards, and Javi Gómez on drums. In just one month, they wrote the 8 songs that make up this debut album, titled 'Solstice', which they recorded with all the freshness and spontaneity of the moment at the Analog Drive-in Studios, alongside Christian A. Korn at the controls and Dani Pernas as co-producer. Pernas would later handle the mixing before passing the project on to Estanis Elorza for mastering.

Solstice

1. Shine
2. Far beyond
3. Closer to freedom
4. New pair of wings
5. Stand right next to me
6. Out the door
7. Wherever I go
8. All of a sudden

For the graphic design, they once again enlisted an illustration by Jondix (Tool, Black Sabbath, High on Fire, Electric Wizard) and the design by Jalón de Aquiles for a vinyl edition that will be released by Spinda Records (ES), in a new collaboration with Clostridium Records (DE) and Echodelick Records (US), who previously worked together on the debut album by Loma Baja.

'Solstice' will be available on April 3, 2025, and will be released exclusively in digital format and on vinyl; in a limited edition of 300 copies in marbled yellow, which can already be pre-ordered at spindarecords.com.

Delco Detention – Come Get It!

Delco Detention – Come Get It!
Self released – 2023
Rock, Hard, Stoner
Rated: ***

Happy release day to Delco Detention! Happy 52nd birthday to the man behind the drums, and dad to the now 12-year-old guitar slinging maniac Tyler Pomerantz, Adam Pomerantz. Recorded in their basement once again, Come Get It! is the fourth album for their Delco Detention project. All songs written by the then 11-year-old Tyler and recorded by him, his dad and whatever big wig from the Heavy Underground they could persuade to sing, trade licks, or play bass. This time however one should pay extra attention to the fourth track, Digital Zombie with none other than George Loving providing some excellent bass lines. Cause George Loving, my dear friends, is the 11-year-old bandmate of the Let There Be Rock School band Tyler Pomerantz is also in. Besides that little dude you also get to hear Jessi Maule of Chokesetter, Jared Collins of Mississippi Bones, Mike Descoteaux, Kevin McNamara & Mike DiDonato, Justin Kerbel of Ransom Child, Dave Wessell of Ickarus Gin and Isaiah Mitchell of Earthless. And honoring the band that propelled this project to fame with a proper bang, they included a Clutch cover. And, that ninth track I Have The Body Of John Wilkes Booth, is done with definite love for the band, the original and with those gritty, gnarly vocals by Jessi Maule makes it all sound rock solid. Which you can easily say about the entire album, all nine tracks. One could state that the album misses that one banger, that From The Basement had with Joy Of Homeschooling. And perhaps the production seems a bit thinner in comparison to that first album. But hey, opening with a kick ass track like Domagoj Simek Told Me Quitters Never Smoke (feat. Jared Collins & Mike Descoteaux) and hearing Isaiah Mitchell of Earthless solo his way straight to the stars on Earthless Delco makes this album already worthwhile on its very own terms. So, I guess you just should go out and get it… Today… I mean, it will not only be a righteous rocking gift for yourself...

Freak Valley Festival

Freak Valley Festival

There and back again…

Between a few hills somewhere in a rural part of Germany, there lives a festival. Not a nasty, dirty, wet festival, where too many people are crammed on a piece of asphalt and the waiting lines for food and drink are so immense it deters you from going to the bar, nor an empty field where crickets can be heard between the songs of whatever local band is playing on stage: it was Freak Valley Festival, and that means good people, all of them weird friends and great impressive music…

It had red kites circling the camping area looking for an easy prey among the tents and campervans, a passed-out Freak perhaps still buzzing from last night’s set, but also too tired and too hot to move out of the sun and the birds’ crosshairs. Those spread wings did offer a moment of respite from the blistering sun, that miniscule momentary shadow giving you just another bit of energy to spend during whatever day you found yourself wondering the festival grounds. It had smiling security guards as you passed the entry gates and all sorts of food courts on those first meters towards the stage. A better setup than most festivals and with vendors who looked pleased to help you, meet you and remembered your name the following day. One stage where all the bands played in succession, never go pass their time limit, except the one of course. You know the amazing and wild The Great Machine has to do that. It’s in their DNA. Especially if the crowd is demanding they play there 1 minute thirty seconds long song BITCH. Which always turns into a freak’s paradise. And every set of every day started with the honorable Volker Fröhmer welcoming all his friends in front of the stage. Should we mention all the highlights? Which means we should probably just do a roll call of all the bands. But I was there first and foremost for Besvärjelsen, and they were indeed better than I could have hoped. An amazing set, with a fill-in bass player, that had the crowd going wild, and will live on in my memory forever. And will surely never pass up an opportunity to see them again. Thanks for the show! Same goes for King Buffalo, saw them many times now, but they always get me, almost have me teared up, always has me about to lift off during that end rise of Mammoth. And to have that one followed by Earthless, was indeed out of this earth and heavenly! The few freaks that we not on a different plane of existence after those two sets were surely still having fun on the campsite. And they will have to live with that fact forever… But I sincerely do hope they got their kicks somewhere else. For there were many more bands delivering their excellence.

Thanks to all the Freaks that came out and the organization who manages to put this wild and beautiful shindig on every year. Thanks to Linda from Scorched Oak for finding us in the crowd again, to Joe Hannes for pushing Tier back into my peripheral vision and to all the quick meets with everyone else. Especially the much too cool Roman and Alberto from Vinnum Sabbathi again, monsieur Damien Regnauld and Xavier Bataillon, the always shining JJ Koczan and to Paloma Heat for running the weirdest and probably the best PR campaign a band can do… And now, we’re back home, trying to make our way again through the less successful version of life. But luckily there will be another Freak Valley Festival next year. ‘Thank goodness!” I exclaim with a smile and a giddy heart full of freak love…
