Number 11

Number 11

On Number 12 we found Year Of The Cobra and from that great album we jump almost twenty points to arrive at Number 11. Released in June through Aqualamb Records the album comes from a band that has made the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown multiple times. Reaching Number 9 in our very first year, making it to Number 3 in 2011 and Number 16 in 2014. They just have that unique sound that worms itself into your blood, bones and heart immediately! And guess what, they’ve done it again! This album seems to have even more catchiness and melody to it than their earlier albums. If that was even possible? It retains all of its heaviness, it has a high degree of dynamics and pushes for a mighty groove every time again. And all that with so much dirty nuance and gritty chugging, simply colossal! It’s hard rock, it’s desert rock, it’s stoner and it’s soulful! And it’s on Number 11 !

Lo-Pan – Subtle

Lo-Pan – Subtle
Aqualamb Records – 2019
Rock, Hard, Stoner, Desert
Rated: *****

Lo-Pan has always been a definite fixture on the HiVe. They’ve made it to the Top 20 Countdown at the end of the year with almost every release the past ten years. Sasquanaut back in 2009. Salvador two years later and Colossus in 2014. They just have that unique sound that worms itself into your blood, bones and heart immediately! And guess what, they’ve done it again! Produced by James Brown (Not the Godfather of Soul obviously!) (NIN, Foo Fighters, Ghost) and mastered by Ted Jensen (Mastodon, Deftones, Alice in Chains, GNR), Subtle, Lo-Pan’s newest releases has even more catchiness and melody to it than their earlier albums. And only logical that they are on Seventh position on the Doom Charts this month… But how high on the Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown at the end of they year will be up to you freaks… How high indeed?!

Stoner HiVe’s Top 5 artists listened to last week…

Stoner HiVe’s
Top 5 artists listened to last week…

The last few days of silence were due to the fact that my father in law got decorated by the King. So, there was much to prepare for the secret festivities. And ofcourse during those days we did not listen to anything new. But before we went off, clad in Orange and bearing gifts abundant, we had quite a spell of great albums, soon to be released, released recently and released a bit earlier. We had Little Steven’s new album Summer of Sorcery on repeat due to an interview. Which is good, great blues married to rock and soul and funk and a whole lot more! Excellent tunes for the approaching summer! Pristine’s album Road Back To Ruin out on Nuclear Blast has been on heavy rotation. Steamy classic hardrock injected with the blues and the spirit of the golden age. Subtle, the new Lo-Pan, soon to be released on Aqualamb Records has been on heavy rotation for a while. Which is only logical for Lo-Pan are the only cats that can really marry those easy to the ear melodies from hardrock with stoner trucking and a spacious groove. Subtle is definitely subtle and all the intricate layers give their new release something gigantic. Amazing record! Tempel is the new Kvelertak-drummer vehicle and seems to continue on where the other band signs off. The melody that suddenly appears when you get used to the hardcore sound is beautiful. Tempel by Tempel, out on PIAS. And Brutus we already mentioned, Nest (out on Hassle Records) will bash and grate and whip you into a frenzy! So, check it out! Check’m all out!
