The Doom Charts Peroration - June 2025

The Doom Charts Peroration

June 2025

“Big black shape with eyes of fire
Tellin’ people their desire
The Doom Charts are sittin’ there, they’re smilin’
Watches those flames get higher and higher”

~ probable misheard lyrics by Black Sabbath

It’s that time again, the Peroration post is here with 22 albums the Doom Charts crew couldn’t get enough of, and get a chance to shine regardless of rankings and votes! Dig in and find a new album or 20 to spin and fall in love with.

We do forget to post about the Doom Charts Peroration on our little old Stoner HiVe blog, but we will try to do better. Cause it's a valuable addition to the regular post. All albums featured are treasured immensely by one or more Contributors. I for one, will be listening to all 20 in a row, starting with that amazing new 1968 album, which also made the regular June 2025 Doom Charts, and rightfully so! Has your favorite album gotten the attention it deserves?

The following are professions of love and adoration by Doom Charts Contributors for albums they could not stop spinning. Each month, the Doom Charts critics submit their picks for the best new doom, sludge, metal, stoner, psychedelic and other sorts of heavy rock and metal albums. The results are compiled and tabulated into the chart which is published on the First Friday of the new month. However, sometimes a love is so great, but for whatever reason the album unfortunately did not make the published Doom Charts Edition or because there were so many contributors in love with that one album, that multiple blurbs were written, and only the one got published… Well, you can peruse that love here…

The June 2024 Doom Charts – 40 to 26

The June 2024 Doom Charts – 40 to 26

Stoner Hype

It took a bit longer than usual, but here we are again, collecting what we did on our little Facebook page right after the new regular edition of the Doom Charts goes online. We count down from 40 to 26 and try to type in a few words about that album or ep that makes sense to us. It’s not a review; but usually a miniscule blurb, a little sentence to entice, to hype. A Stoner Hype… Well, we collected them here to post for you in one nice little post on the blog… Because we like to keep things nice and tidy and it helps us spread the good word about them on Instagram as well…

OH HIROSHIMA – ALL THINGS SHINING

"All Things Shining by Oh Hiroshima, delivers glorious post rock, shoegazing moments and progressiveness. And turns your adventure through their landscape into a labyrinthian experience. And every time you wander pack into their wonderous terrain, things will be different...."

THE GHOST NEXT DOOR – CLASSIC SONGS OF DEATH AND DISMEMBERMENT

"Out on Ripple Music, the new The Ghost Next Door gives you Tool-like progressiveness, with overtones of nineties grunge and eighties metal. There is more grit and harshness though and this is exactly what sets Classic Songs Of Death and Dismemberment apart from all other progressive metal albums. Tasty!"

YOUNG ACID – MURDER AT MAPLE MOUNTAIN

"Out on Majestic Mountain Records, the glorious debut album Murder At Maple Mountain, by Young Acid! A veritable supergroup that is not more than the sum of its parts! It's an entirely different machine and its one of those albums that will slowly but surely seep into the very core of your being..."

BLACK ON HIGH – ECHOES THROUGH TIME

"Black On High's Echoes Through Time delivers doom tuned, down low and grunge toned stoner rock. Seven tracks that resound that early nineties vibe, while giving it a very own edge. It's delicious!"

WYTCH PYCKNYCK – WYTCH PYCKNYCK

"Wytch Pycknyck!!! Noisy, metal, garage and punk inspired ruckus, it's that skate vibe and that thrashy stoner touch that will surely make you fall in love with this four-piece from the UK... I know I am... And it's a freakin debut album! And and and... That last track... Frostbite... Now there's a change and a change within, starting with UK (the) street(s) rap, moving towards psych and space and punk, metal and then doom tones to set you off on whatever rampage you feel like... Wowzah!"

WHITE CANYON & THE 5TH DIMENSION – THE GOLDEN KEY TO THE KINGDOM OF NO RETURN

"Returning from our holiday in Spain we asked what album we should listen first. From multiple direction we were advised to immediately check out the new White Canyon & The 5th Dimension album The Golden Key To The Kingdom Of No Return . Which meant, we immediately did! The psych is wild here! Tribalistic, spacious and often trance inducing! "

DESERT TWELVE – THE LAST DARK WOOD

"The new The Last Dark Wood album by Desert Twelve definitely has its moments and a lot of inspiration coursing through its veins. It unfortunately also to seems to waver a bit in production and in delivery, but it's nonetheless a worthy successor to their debut from 2022! "

SUMAC – THE HEALER

"SUMAC's The Healer feels like an experimental simulacrum of sounds and shifts, which will leave some listeners bewildered and others in blissful ecstacy. An one hour and fiftee minute long trip... "

EL JEFAZO – COLISIÓN BRUTAL

"El Jefazo! Brutal and so delicious! stoner metal, doom, sludge and a hefty dose of pure head on colissions! Colisión Brutal, is the perfect name for this amazing release! "

AMON ACID – SUBMERGING

"We've been digging Amon Acid since we ever came across them... But the new Submerging is something else! And I guess Desert Psychlist's Frazer Jones hit the spot with this words: "Excellent grooves of spacious and heavy doom tinted with elements of Bauhaus like goth." Loving it! "

PIJN – FROM LOW BEAMS OF HOPE

"I assumed Pijn hailed from the Netherlands, but they're from Manchester, UK and their post-metal on FROM LOW BEAMS OF HOPE is riddled with audio samples and a truly breathing entity that envelops and embraces as you descend with them into an emotional torrent... "

BLACK SPELL – INTO DARKNESS

"𝕭𝖑𝖆𝖈𝖐 𝕾𝖕𝖊𝖑𝖑 Band 's Into Darkness indeed sees the darkness doubling, and with it you descent into the murky depths of the scuzzy, lo-fi, acid doom. Proto by default, this preaches that ancient lust for blood... "

YAJAIRA – EPOPEYA

"Yajaira rock is one of those bands that will make you want to move to Chile! EPOPEYA is a huge album, delivering epic scaled stoner metal and monumental doom! Once played, it will be played some more... And more... "

NEBULA / BLACK RAINBOWS – IN SEARCH OF THE COSMIC TALE: CROSSING THE GALACTIC PORTAL

"It's not been easy listening to the Nebula / BLACK RAINBOWS split In Search Of The Cosmic Tale: Crossing The Galactic Portal knowing what happened to the lovely bassist Ranch Sironi. The three songs being studio debut with the band its hard to listen to. Wild songs, wild energy and a Nebula that seemed destined to surf the galactic waves once again... This HEAVY PSYCH SOUNDS split has 6 mythical songs that will surely become even more legendary over time... "

ATOMIC VULTURE – PILGRIMS OF THE SUN

"Atomic Vulture has been an absolute favorite band over here, their instrumental albums always an amazing go to for stonerized psych and space rock. The new Pilgrims Of The Sun is no different, a bit darker, a bit more energy and a wild current running through the tracks... 41 minutes of pure instrumental bliss!"

Tune in next month when we do this Stoner Hype again for the number 40 to 26 of the July Doom Charts... Live during the weekend on our little Facebook Page or afterwards when we collect them here... But for now... Go listen to all of the 40 of June if you haven't already!

The Doom Charts for June 2024

DOOM CHARTS

JUNE 2024

“What the Doom Charts know is a drop, what we don’t know is an ocean…”

~ Isaac Newton (probably misheard quote)

As we enter July we look back at the months passed and publish the Doom Charts, June 2024 edition. Voted for by many of the bloggers, journalists, radio, podcasters and reviewers braving the Heavy Underground. As you peruse the list you will notice that there are a lot of self-released albums on the list this month. Cause in this glorious age of independent music this is entirely possible and much easier than during the ages before. A plus for labels perhaps? Cause with one album out already gathering attention, a newly signed band will hit the ground running. It might also allude to the fact there is a lot of talent out there, constantly bopping to the surface for us to discover. No less than 207 albums received votes this month. And apparently the Contributors weren’t done yet with one from the month before, cause one album carried over from May. Which happens less and less, due to the sheer amount of great music released daily. One Contributor’s statement after submitting his list might also serve as proof for that fact: “Aaaaaaaaah, I forgot to put GREENLEAF on my list…”

Well, we already posted a post about the June Doom Charts on the Stoner HiVe Facebookpage yesterday. Cause the Doom Charts Facebook page has been temporarily blocked by FB for no apparent reason. No warning and no reason given at all. Hopefully it will be open again soon. But as you know, we like to keep things need and tidy, so we had to post on the little old blog as well! It’s hard coming back from the three weeks of holiday, but after another grueling week next week, I will surely be back again in full force. Did not vote for many, for the holiday took me away from my listening habits, but still managed to vote for a few on the list... Greenleaf, Fu Manchu, Sons of Arrakis, Horseburner, Void Commander, Stonekind, WyndRider, BIRDSTONE, Atomic Vulture and Young Acid... And if I had been around the past month, I could have, should have and probably would have voted for all the others as well! Check'm out!

And due to the heavy weekend filled with obligations in front of us... We might not be able to do the Stoner Hype, quick blurbs about the 40 to 26 for the June Doom Charts this time... But we will try to do that in that case, throughout the week...
