Eyes Fly – Eyes Fly

Eyes Fly – Eyes Fly
Self released – 2020
Rock, Metal, Stoner
Rated: ***

We’ve been enjoying the self-titled Eyes Fly album for quite some weeks now. But as you know, we’ve been swamped with crap that pays the bills, so it took some time to actually find a few moments to write a few words about it. Words that will never do it justice ofcourse, cause this is one hell of a record. But that is not what we are about anyway, right? We just profess our love for what tickles our heavy fancy! After (the demise of?) Valfader, which we absolutely adored, two of the boys went on to form Eyes Fly somewhere around 2016 on a doom fest somewhere in Bristol. Since then they’ve been hard at work carving out their sound. Leading up to the four track The Long Return release last year and now to the full-sized self-titled effort. And as expected, the sound is immense once again. Going for huge by way of gigantic. A doom groove provided by intense crushing riffs and majestic basswork; on top of a foundation of killer drums. Vocals taking center stage when needed, being haunting, chased or guttural. The man seems to be able to do it all! And so do the other three! Dang boys, Eyes Fly is massive!

Insula – Unfulfilled

Insula is an alternative-metal band from Piacenza, Italy. With their first two track single Unfulfilled they storm out of the gates with a very modern view on metal. Using elements from stoner, prog and something extremely groovy and funky. Want to feel good and fulfilled? Check out Insula!

Synsophony – Rabbit Hole

The UK duo Synsophony are experts in creating a dystopian black drone, industrial doom and dark psychedelic ambient adventure that leave the listener confused and almost at the end of their tether. Their weaving waves of sound and noise disheartens and disorientates. So take heed and listen when you want to leave Kansas…

Valfader – Opening

The Whispers of Chaos album by English trio Valfader still spins regularly around the house and soon a new offering will be released. The single Opening goes on where their earlier release left off but with an even grander sound and wider arrangement. This one goes for the gusto in every way conceivable and with majestic gestures. We hereby pledge allegiance to Valfader…

Valfader – Whispers of Chaos

Valfader – Whispers of Chaos
Self released – 2013
Rock, Doom, Sludge, Psychedelic
Rated: *****

Somewhere on the other side of this mist and rubble one can make out silent words and quiet murmur. There is something there and there’s something that knows and it tries to hiss some form of truth into our ears. Luckily we have the English trio Valfader from Bath to translate that chaos into audible beauty. On their debut album Whispers of Chaos the three amigos show us how true love for the obscure and shadowy should sound like. For almost forty minutes they take us on a majestic trip through their very own and very impressive haze. With a massive doom groove, heavy truckin bass, dizzying riffs and wails that bring the giants of yore to memory the album enchants, moves and captivates. And with voices that move from witchy to growly to haunting and back you cannot escape being mesmerized. And then there’s the slightly lo-fi production, which only adds to their very own august, noble and mystic sound. Simply amazing!
