The Stone Eye – T.G.R.

The Stone Eye – T.G.R.

The Stone Eye released their damn fine Fata Morgana album back in April through Electric Talon Records. Filled to the brim with fuzzy proggy sludge and funky stonerrock, they’ve now put out a new video for the fourth single of this album and the second track featured on that album called T.G.R. Quirky, crazy, weird and a bit insane indeed! Or perhaps, ‘very strange’…

Grab a beer, throw up your legs, and let out a sigh of relief. A new era is born; or at least, something like that. Philadelphia’s premier fuzz-filled rockers are ushering in 2023 with new music throughout the year, and have arrived at their second single, Not My Circus. Formed in 2014 by some buddies in High School with a shared love for music and endless amounts of ambition (sometimes to the point of absurdity), The Stone Eye is a band that prides itself in tackling multiple genres within one cohesive package; usually topped off with thunderous rhythm, loud guitars, and haunting vocals. It was not always this way though, and that's a part of the appeal. Throughout the band's long history, musical evolution and experimentation has been at the forefront of each member's mind. What happens if you cross pop-sensibilities with traditional metal? Or maybe throw some funk in there for the ladies? Perhaps this song needs a hand pan? Why not! With every new release, The Stone Eye is providing new perspectives on tried genres, and that's... well, cool. These upcoming releases are absolutely no exception to that now established mantra, so strap on in, grab that beer we were talking about earlier, and enjoy the ride. T.G.R. is the final single & music video for the band's latest twelve track album entitled Fata Morgana, which was released April 28th, 2023 release. Fata Morgana and the aforementioned single are available through Electric Talon Records on the CD, Cassette, and Digital mediums.

The Same River – Weight Of The World

The Same River – Weight Of The World
Electric Talon Records / Sliptrick Records - 2022
Rock, Stoner, Psych
Rated: *****

Ever since hearing Weight Of The World by Greek formation The Same River I felt the urgent need to sit down to write a few words of love and praise for the album. But as usual, time eluded me and it took weeks, nay, months to finally get to it. And all that even after Ioannis Valiakos, from the Desert Vulture site already wrote some fine words for the Doom Charts Peroration of May and The Ripple Effect’s Pat Whitaker on the May Doom Charts, where they were featured proudly on the Number 19 spot. But it felt wrong to keep postponing the sit down. Slowly the weight was growing bigger, and my shoulders started to buckle. And then when the news came All Them Witches had to cancel their Krach Am Bach festival gig in Germany, it needed to be done quickly. For The Same River would fit snugly in that spot. Sure, The Same River formed in 2019 is only just now starting out, but the sound, the tones and the voice will surely remind everyone of All Them Witches. And that is not a bad thing! Weight Of The World has some bluer touches, some more metal thunders and perhaps more pounding than All Them Witches ever had. I might even be hearing a few; much heavier Madrugada touches, but that might just be me. Overall, The Same River seems to embody heavy psychedelic rock to the very core. Lyrically the album covey’s the band's “philosophical concerns about the decadence of human society filtered through the fears of an unknown world after this pandemic ends. Heraclitus, Albert Camus, Sigmund Freud and many mythological aspects of our heritage (with a deeper meaning), such as Sisyphus and Prometheus, blend in a way and fulfills in rhymes what their vision for this world is about; solidarity, peace and understanding.” Which is perfect ground to produce an album that is worth to stand next to all that ancient knowledge. It calls for honesty and pure of heart; something the nine tracks seem to thrive on. There are no masks in The Same River. Recorded during the pandemic in three different studios, the album fits together perfectly and sounds like a grand piece of art. That moves and projects images and emotions on a blank canvas and for you to do with what you like. For me it becomes this huge and in-depth adventure into every universal aspect you might be able to think of. But whatever it turns out to be for the rest of the world, the fact remains that this is an amazingly strong, brilliant and awe-inspiring album…

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Weekend

Stoner HiVe’s Quick Fire Weekend

No no no, you can’t do that! It’s not Friday! You can’t just suddenly do a whole weekend of Quick Fire posts… Sure we can… And why the hell not? Weird those discussions that go on in one’s mind. Even weirder sharing them with the world. Better not share all them discussions or thoughts. I know some do. But that will never make the world a better place. Avoid twitter at all cost. Stick to your guns. Stick to music! Stick to all that good and heavy stuff! It’s what we love and what keeps us sane! So, in light of all that and in light of all those amazing bands, albums, singles and demos that are sent our way on a daily basis. We will do two massive posts. Filled with so much heavy goodness, even full albums. One today. One tomorrow. For the first ever Quick Fire Weekend! And we know, we know, the albums and bands deserve more than the few words we will jot down here. More attention and more of our time! But there is so much out there and we just simply cannot ever do it all justice. So here it is. The first ever Stoner HiVe Quick Fire Weekend! And it burns even hotter... Hot like molten lava!

Sheev – Mind Conductor

Don’t forget about Sheev! We haven’t! Mind Conductor is one hell of an album and had a rightful place at Number 12 of the Doom Charts of October. Will it have it's rightful place on your year end list? It’s prog, it’s stoner and that’s just awesome! The three from Berlin, Germany know how to carve out a groove as well as how to weave intricate rhythms into a wild tapestry! They will paint your sky and they will conduct your mind!

Temptations Wings – Marauders of The Killing Moon

Did you notice, we’re not just mentioning singles, demos or EP’s. Also awesome full-sized albums on this very first three day run of the Quick Fire Weekend round. Next up is the new album by North Carolina based foursome Temptations Wings. Marauders of The Killing Moon features eight stoner metal tracks that move just as easy towards classic metal, doom and power! Out on Electric Talon Records the album is damn well structured, executed and powerful! Something epic is lurking around the corner on every track! Thank you Davide Pulito and Metallist PR for bringing this to our attention!

Sloth Cult - Every Ism Ends In Cannibalism

Up for some droning noise anyone? If so, check out Sloth Cult and its Every Ism Ends In Cannibalism release. If not, check it out anyway, cause it will drown out all your excess baggage, thoughts and emotions. It feels like a cleansing ritual. And will make you hungry…

IAH – Omines

More full albums? Why not. IAH, has been spinning here since their debut in 2017. And Omines is already their fourth release, instrumental, mental post rock and stoner prog. The three from Córdoba, Argentina know exactly how to operate between the walls of the genre and do that so exceptionally well. No wonder they were already 24th on the October Doom Charts. Or as Frazer Jones says: “IAH mesmerise, brutalize and traumatize all in the space of one mind-blowing album.” Damn right Mr. Jones!

Bicycle Thief – A Man Like Me

As an avid biker I was not looking forward to mention this track, cause if there’s one thing that should never be stolen, it’s a bicycle. Hoho. Sorry. Anyway, this is Bicycle Thief, a one man project by Brisbane, Australia resident Jon Alpitsis. Not, The Bicycle Thief from the late nineties. Well anyway, his latest single A Man Like Me is a lo-fi, dreamy, light psych ballad that will surely make your drift off or cruise away.

Sound Animal – Epigenetic Roadtrip

One woman project Sound Animal has been putting out a highly diverse catalogue of music. This newest EP is ambient drone, psych noise and highly experimental art. It’s a winding road into the deep dark reaches of mankind’s DNA. Like a tribal ritual, a shamanic ayahuasca ceremony filled with earliest memories of things one cannot even know; you will not come out of this unscathed or whole. You will be changed, altered and something deep within will be unfurled. Or you will switch the EP off after about thirty seconds…
