Number 11

Number 11

Well, we’re making a slightly bigger jump today, almost forty points to reach Number 11. Where we find an album that was released in May and was featured on the HiVe only two weeks ago. Indeed, who knows, that little mention might have caused more cats to vote for it? Probably not, cause this album was destined to receive a lot of love ever since it came out. For the eleven tracks, give you almost forty-five minutes of unadulterated riffs and riffs galore. And it all sounds so rough, gritty, raw, and errr… Primal! And those drums on the album, its crashes have the ability to lift the guitar parts above the ooze and sludge and give it this higher edge. Sharper, with a more cutting and slashing approach, the energy is more intense, crushing, and wild than that first release from 2017. Explosive might be another word applicable to the entire album. A super sophomore release, that almost sounds like the album you were always missing, and you will realize this, listening to wave after wave of riff highlights blast out of your speakers… On Number 11 we get crushed by!

Telekinetic Yeti – Primordial

Telekinetic Yeti – Primordial

Rock, Stoner, Metal, Doom, Sludge
Rated: *****

The Stoner HiVe Top 20 Countdown of 2022 will start on December 13th and since the announcement of the list request last Sunday, your votes have been pouring in. Yes, you are all already sending your lists to us in a massive amount. That show of love for the countdown and all those heavy albums released this year makes us feel all warm and giddy inside. And well, one album, that has been receiving quite a few votes already and we never got around to mentioning on the HiVe, is Primordial by Telekinetic Yeti. Released back in July it immediately reached the Number 5 position of the Doom Charts that month and was spinning over here quite a lot. It’s the sophomore release from the Telekinetic Yeti moniker from Dubuque, Iowa, USA and sludges forward with ravenous intent and like only a massive Telekinetic Yeti could do. Primordial holds eleven tracks, that give you almost forty-five minutes of unadulterated riffs and riffs galore. Courtesy of founder, guitarist and vocalist Alex Baumann, the riffs sound rough, gritty, raw, and yes, Primordial. New drummer, Rockwel Heim pounding away where needed, the man also gives even more light for the guitar to shine. Or is it still Oscar Johansson on drums we hear, for he apparently joined after Athony Dreyer left? And did Mr. Heim only join after completion of this record? Whatever the case, the drums, and its crashes have the ability to lift the guitar parts above the ooze and sludge and give it this higher edge. Sharper, with a more cutting and slashing approach, the energy is more intense, crushing, and wild than that first release from 2017. Explosive might be another word applicable to the entire Primordial album. A super sophomore release, that almost sounds like the album you were always missing, and you will realize this, listening to wave after wave of riff highlights blast out of your speakers…

And you might wanna scroll down a bit… Cause for the lucky few there might just be a code…

Thanks to Telekinetic Yeti

The Doom Chart For June 2017

Doom Chart

“Listen, are we helpless? Are we doomed to do it again and again and again? Have we no choice but to play the Phoenix in an unending sequence of rise and fall? Assyria, Babylon, Egypt, Greece, Carthage, Rome, the Empires of Charlemagne and the Turk: Ground to dust and plowed with salt. Spain, France, Britain, America—burned into the oblivion of the centuries. And again and again and again. Are we doomed to it, Lord, chained to the pendulum of our own mad clockwork, helpless to halt its swing? This time, it will swing us clean to oblivion.”

    – Walter M. Miller, Jr. (A Canticle for Leibowitz, 1959)

Welcome to the soundtrack to the apocalypse.  This is Doom Charts, a collaboration of bloggers and broadcasters who have their ears to the ground listening for the latest and the best in heavy music from the cursed earth.   While it is indeed July as I pen these words, this is a good time to remind you that The Doom Chart always looks back to the previous month of listening activity, giving you a window into the vibrant world of doom metal and stoner rock, with every imaginable variation.

Overall, we had a robust array of submissions from our panel of critics for the June chart — over 200 unique albums chosen among the lot of us.  Following is the consensus list of the critics’ picks, over half of which are making their Doom Charts debut.  At the same time, we say goodbye to long-time chart dominators Goya and The Obsessed.  Will Elder, Geezer, and Telekinetic Yeti hold their positions as tenaciously in the months ahead?   We shall see.

It is worth noting that for this go-round, we have our first “tie” since the Doom Charts inception, with Pyreship and Medusa1975 vying for the 25th spot to begin the countdown.  Also, we welcome the return of Demon Head after taking a month off from the charts.  Now, grab a good spot to watch the world burn, as we bring you the June edition of Doom Charts!
