Why you should root for the Dodgers tonight

I'm pretty certain that by this point in the postseason, every baseball fan has settled on "their team" for the playoffs, whether or not "their team" has been eliminated already. But on some off chance that someone turns on the TV tonight and has no earthly idea who to root for in Game 6 of the NLCS or the rest of the postseason, I am here to help with my own biased brand of baseball card illustration. I think you should root for the Dodgers. It's rather clear cut. To help me underline my point, I am using some cards that I received from Baseball Dad and one of his sons (I guess that would make him Baseball Son?). I sent my curled up 2010 Topps Chrome collection to son of Baseball Dad and I received some great cards as thanks. So here you go. This is why you should be rooting for a Game 7: 1. Let's start with tonight's starter, Clayton Kershaw. Not only is he almost the consensus best starter in baseball, but he might be the best h...

Team colors: Blue Jays

About seven or eight years ago, the Blue Jays made one of my least favorite uniform changes of all-time. For a reason that may be only known at team headquarters or maybe Toronto proper, the Blue Jays -- let me stress, the BLUE Jays -- decided that their primary colors would be black and gray. I know their official team colors as of 2004 still list blue, along with black, white and "silver," but tell me where is the blue in the uniform that Brandon Morrow is wearing? Mostly what I see is black and gray, with a touch of red, which may or may not be on one of those patriotic caps that teams wear on Memorial Day and Independence Day. This is probably a better example. This is pretty much how it's been for the last eight years. Black helmet, black jersey, gray pants, and tiny touch of blue that makes it seem as if the BLUE Jays are embarrassed about the color. It is a depressing look. And as far as I was concerned, the team lost their identity when they made tha...

Big box o' fun, part 2

These are some of the Dodgers that David of Tribe Cards sent me as part of his "everything must go" giveaway. Like I said in Part 1 , he sent a monstrous box of hundreds of cards. Among them were between 300 and 400 Dodgers. There were very few doubles. The nine 1994 Topps Pedro Martinez cards had me going for a second. I thought Dave might bury me in Pedros like he did dayf with Alomars , but the nine Pedros were the most of one card in the box. The rest were cool cards like the Gary Carter Stadium Club up top (Carter looks intense ). And extremely cool cards like this one, which I think is from the 1971 Fleer World Series sticker set. The only version of this card I had was from the sticker inserts that Fleer put in cards during the early 1980s. This card features all the glorious details of the Dodgers' spanking of the Yankees in the '63 Series. Wish I was around for that one. This card also reminds me that I would like to change my banner one day and ad...
