The return of COMC and a ridiculous collecting quest

For the first time in exactly a year, I received a shipment of cards from COMC last week. I wouldn't say COMC is truly back back. I did pay extra for the express shipping so I wouldn't have to wait however long we're waiting for COMC shipments these days. But the cards arrived in short fashion and it was nice to see something in the mailbox from my preferred online card site for over a decade until last year. I had waited a year to order what was in my cart. I didn't want to be one of those people who paid and then waited nine months for shipment. I mean, what if I ordered them and COMC went under? Those were the kind of questions that were floating in my head last year.   That meant that I did lose a couple of items out of my cart, but no big deal. Nothing in there was anything highly sought-after and I merely replaced whatever I lost with a new version or something else I liked. Many of my collecting interests are not high on anyone's radar, especially 2020 fli...

Losing a personality

I have a couple of blog updates, mostly only of interest to me, before I get to tonight's topic. So, skip to where the sign says "start reading now" if you aren't interested in personal blog business.   1. I finally figured out how to make sure a thumbnail photo appears with my latest blog post on everyone's blog roll, and I also figured out how to make sure the right photo appears in the thumbnail.   I was raging about my frustration with this a few posts ago and I got the impression that no one knew what I was talking about (or no one cared). But after seeing blog post after blog post -- and also a lot of other people's blog posts -- showing up on blog rolls without thumbnail photos, I knew it was more than just me dealing with this issue.   The way to ensure that a thumbnail photo appears with your updated post on everyone's blog rolls is to make sure that you size at least one of the images in your post "original size". If you want the fir...

The top 10 cards of 2020 for the World Series champeens

I have not bought any 2020 World Series commemorative cards in the two months since the Dodgers have won the Series.   I'm not above doing that. I still might do so. But I'm accustomed to waiting until the following year for recognition of the previous year's World Series and I haven't lost my patience. I can wait if I want. Heck, I'm still waiting for Topps to recognize the Dodgers' title in 1981.   So you won't see any of those commemorative cards on this list of the top 10 Dodgers cards of 2020.   You also won't see many special cards, no autographs, no relics. I acquired very few of those this year. In fact, as I mentioned in a previous post, I've accumulated fewer 2020 Dodgers cards than I have for any previous year since I've been writing the blog.   That doesn't mean there wasn't Dodgers greatness on cardboard this year. There was.   Some of it was even interesting. As an example, this card: The first thing I noticed about this c...

I must be in the front row

Once, I used to get envious of collectors and their card shows, one popping up every month or sometimes nearly every week. "Oh, ho, hum, it's time to go to another card show." I guess I'm still a tiny bit envious, but I channel it a little better because I know that when certain collectors have so many card shows to go to, sometimes that means more cards for me! This happens time-and-again with bloggers situated in card show heaven. Folks like Dime Box Nick and Commish Bob. And there's another one who keeps blessing me with card show goodies -- Johnny from Johnny's Trading Spot . He plopped several stacks of cards on me recently and then sent a PWE, too, and then, today, another PWE showed up. Hokey smokes, Bullwinkle. I've finally sifted through the cards, what I need and what I don't and have some needed items for you to see now. Johnny even completed a set for me, but I'll get to that in a minute. Right now I want to get to thi...
