Minis come to their rightful owner

As you know, there are quite a few Dodger collectors on the blogs (when I started there were two). They show all their Dodger card acquisitions, and I'm fine with that, except for the part of me that cries in the night, "those should be MIIIIIINNNNNE! " Also from time to time, I see someone boasting about something that they acquired that is right smack in the middle of my collecting interests. A Kellogg's 3-D card, or a '75 mini, or a shiny Kershaw insert. Those collectors have the right to those cards. But we all know where they really belong. Unfortunately, this is life and things never work out as they should. Not even in card collecting. There is no world peace. Coffee smells great and tastes like tires. Pee Wee's Playhouse hasn't been on my TV for years. But every once in awhile, the stars align, people of all races and creeds put aside their petty differences, and cards that have night owl written all over them do meet their destiny. Su...

What have you done for me lately?

There are certain collectors who will not click on this post because the first image featured is a card that is 38 years old. They want information only on the newest card offerings and don't have time for smelly old cardboard. That's fine. I do something similar. I often don't click on certain blogs because day after day it's about Panini or the latest rookie I've never heard of. I can't get into that. But the card blogs I find most interesting are the ones that operate in both worlds. They do the vintage thing  and they do the Janet Jackson "what have you done for me lately" thing ( this is wild, I swear ). And then you've got a dude like Drew, who combines vintage and new stuff on Drew's Cards . I find that tremendous because I believe he's 14. A 14-year-old interested in old-time cards and old-time players? Now that's my kind of fan. I think he'll always love this game. Drew recently sent me a mix of old and new card...

Sometimes I know what I'm doing

I am not terribly smart when it comes to collecting cards. I do stupid things. I buy blasters. I buy repack boxes. I spend too much on shipping. I'm sure there are other stupid things that I do that I'm not even aware of -- until you good people remind me. What are friends for if not to point out your failings? Joking. Maybe. Anyway, I stumbled across a rare moment of clarity recently. It had to do with the Topps 206 set that is out in stores now. I don't like this set. I mentioned that a little while ago . It killed retro for me. But aside from that, I plain don't like it just because I don't like the way it looks. Or in the language of the schoolyard, "I just don't like its FACE ." When sets like this come along, collecting gets difficult. As a team collector, I must have all my Dodgers. But I don't want to blow money on the other inconsequentials. When I pull Pirates or Rockies from a set that I dislike, I feel too stupid to live. ...
