All-Star Week: one of these things is not like the other

Well, All-Star Week has come to an end. I hope you enjoyed. I liked it because I got to do some research and find out a few things that I've wondered all the years. In the process, I kind of neglected the cards that have been sent to me over the last couple of weeks, as well as the cards that I'm trying to send out to people. That's the downside of research. But I'm getting back to the routine, starting tonight. I'm working on some packages for Zippy Zappy, Mark Hoyle, Ryan's Pitch, Fantastic Catch, Johnny's Trading Spot, SpastikMooss, Cards On Cards, and a couple of Twitter people. Once those are out the door, I can focus on some other fellow bloggers who have recently sent me cards. I've just got to clear off this desk. To help in that venture, I've got a quick-and-easy card package from Cards On Cards . I'm not going to say a lot about these cards, but I will say that all of the players on these cards, except for one, have something i...

All-Star Week: Night Owl's all-time Topps set countdown (24-21)

I'm sure you have heard about the blind screech owl, Zeus, whose sparkling eyes that look like stars captivated animal lovers earlier this year when he was discovered in California. Or maybe I'm confusing you with Facebook friends. Anyway, I figured Zeus was appropriate for the All-Star Week edition of the all-time Topps set countdown. Also, just to keep the All-Star theme alive for another day, I am going to feature an All-Star card for each of the next four sets in the countdown. I got lucky and each of these sets has some sort of All-Star subset. By the time we're done with this episode, we will have reached the top 20. So you know that means I am pretty fond of the next four sets, as well as any other set that comes after them. So let's all enjoy what's to come. Topps is finally getting it right: 24. 1992 Topps I know for a fact that a fair amount of collectors hold a grudge against 1992 Topps. For them, this is when everything went south for...

All-Star Week: birthday edition

It's my birthday today. I hadn't planned any special post for today and I'm starting to tire of the All-Star festivities (although I lasted a longer than many others apparently ). But there is something I always wanted to do that relates to the All-Star Game. And since it's my birthday and my blog I can do that thing right now. This is something that I think would interest the fan of any team, and anyone can do it. It's simply compiling your team's all-time All-Star team. By all-time All-Star team, I mean the players from your team who performed the best during the All-Star Game. No favorites here. Pedro Guerrero is one of my all-time favorites and would easily make the team if I was playing favorites. But he was 0-for-Four All-Star Games (he didn't play in the 1985 game). So, he's not on the team. One other rule here: the player must have a card that mentions he was an All-Star prominently on the card. This is a difficult rule, because it keeps...
