Another season gone by

I'm posting right now because I just don't care. I know I'm supposed to be "night owl" and everything and post only at night, but nobody is letting me do that. I didn't post yesterday because a 12-hour workday. And I'm up right now because a day off (and let's get on with it!) And I'm not advance publishing for a more suitable night owl-type time because blogger is an obstinate pain in the ass these days and doesn't do anything that you say anymore. See? Just right now blogger told me an error occurred while trying to publish my post. I'M NOT TRYING TO PUBLISH A POST. There it goes again. Screw this, I'm logging off. Yes, I know. "I have unsaved changes." I'll take my chances. ... OK, I'm back. And guess what? Everything is here. I didn't lose any of my type. Blogger with its ideal threats ... Oh for the love of ... another error occurred. Shut up, blogger. I SAID SHUT UP! OK, the message dis...

The "once proud" franchise heads into the offseason

Well, it's the offseason finally. The "once-proud" franchise won its final game of the year. The National League Cy Young Award winner will likely be a player from the "once-proud" franchise, and the N.L. MVP -- if people are thinking clearly -- will also go to a player from the "once-proud" franchise. The "once-proud" team seems to have found a legitimate closer, a reliable starting staff, a shortstop for the future, and some decent role players (and, no, I'm not talking about Eugenio Velez). "Once-proud," my team managed to finish above .500 and in third place -- nothing more, but nothing less than what I expected at the start of the season. For all of the June doom-and-gloom, I think the "once-proud" team produced some truly exciting moments, and two of the best individual performances that I have seen from my "once-proud" favorite club since I started following baseball 35 years ago. I'm pret...

Now let's never speak of this season again

The Dodgers' unfortunate 2010 season is done. I will now spend the remainder of the baseball year rooting for certain teams to lose rather than rooting for a certain team to win. I'm not going to dissect the Dodgers' season. Everyone who cares knows what happened. I get bored writing about that anyway. Instead, here is the rundown of the Player of the Game that I kept all season: 1. Andre Ethier - 12 2. Clayton Kershaw - 10 3. Casey Blake - 7 4. Chad Billingsley - 6 5. Hideki Kuroda - 6 6. John Ely - 5 7. Matt Kemp - 5 8. Rafael Furcal - 4 9. Ted Lilly - 4 10. James Loney - 4 11. Manny Ramirez - 4 12. Vicente Padilla - 3 13. A.J. Ellis - 2 14. Rod Barajas - 1 15. Rafael Belliard - 1 16. Jamey Carroll - 1 17. Blake DeWitt - 1 18. Jay Gibbons - 1 19. Russell Martin - 1 20. Scott Podsednik - 1 21. Travis Schlicting - 1 Last year, Matt Kemp had the most selections with 12. He dropped down to 5 this season. I have no doubt he'll be back at the top...

So, how about those Dodgers?

It's taken me awhile to put a bow on the Dodgers' 2009 season. That's mostly because I don't like writing about my team after they have been eliminated from contention. It bums me out. But I have that "Dodger Player of the Game" listing on the sidebar that I need to eliminate now that the year's over. And I can't eliminate it without acknowledging the totals. I mean, I did pick out a most valuable Dodger after every single Dodger win this year. And I can't acknowledge the totals without writing some sort of conclusion, right? So, for those who care, here are the complete totals for the Dodger Player of the Game, and then the list will disappear from the sidebar, only to reappear in 2010 -- if I decide to do it again: 1. Matt Kemp - 12 2. Andre Ethier -11 3. Randy Wolf - 11 4. Clayton Kershaw - 8 5. Russell Martin - 6 6. Rafael Furcal - 5 7. Chad Billingsley - 4 8. Casey Blake - 4 9. Hiroki Kuroda - 4 10. Vicente Padilla - 4 11...
