A want list update

My want list site on the blog crashed more than two years ago and I've been attempting to reconstruct it ever since. I haven't spent the full two-plus years on it. I go months and months and months without even touching it. But lately I've been making a little more of an effort. The site was redesigned to be listed by year, instead of by card manufacturer. Within each of the years, I then list Topps first and the others alphabetically afterward. I've pretty much got the years 2009-19 updated completely and I have most of the Topps sets done for all years. I'm currently finishing up 2008 for other brands and I'll continue to go back in time from there. But meanwhile I skip around and add stuff from the 1960s -- I just added the Dodgers needs for Post and Jello -- or some stray set from the '90s that suddenly intrigued me. In short, the list will never be finished. Although I like the way my want list is constructed these days (it's also got ...

Exercising my right to acquire free cards

Before I get to the festivities, I want to mention something: I voted. OK? Now ... ... SHUT UP!!!!!!!!! The only thing worse than political election garbage is how we become a nation of nagging mothers on this day. Commence cards. My tremendous 2012 Bowman Chrome Clayton Kershaw gold refractor arrived in the mail today. Although I prefer pretty colors like blue and red, I won't turn down gold, especially when it's numbered to /50. Oooh. I sure do love this card so. The best thing about it, of course, is that I obtained it for free. It's a card from the Listia website and probably the most exclusive card I've obtained from the site yet. It "cost" me the most credits that I've ever laid down so far on the site. I got it for 2,479 credits. Like ebay, bidding on Listia is a little time-consuming, and I was engaged in a battle for this card on Halloween night, as the trick-or-treaters were coming to the door in waves. They had no ide...

Awesome night card, pt. 102

It feels great to return to the Awesome Night Card segment. The polls were fun, but we need to look at something fresh! Roll out the new night cards! This is a great one of Marty Cordova from 1996 Fleer Ultra. It was sent to me by Michael, who is an avid Dodger collector and a great trader. This card was supposed to kick off a post about rookie sensations who after one or two big seasons slowly fade away. It was supposed to address how I knew all about the sad stories of Mark Fidrych and Joe Charbonneau, but when it came to the 1990s, those rookie stories became more elusive. It was supposed to be how I heard about Marty Cordova winning the A.L. Rookie of the Year award in 1995 and enjoying an even better 1996, and then, as far as I was concerned, dropping off the face of the earth. I didn't pay a lot of attention to baseball in the late 1990s and I had no idea that Cordova suffered through back injuries that cut into his playing time, eventually ended up with the Blue Jay...

Keeping myself busy

So, apparently Topps 2009 has made an unexpected but welcome appearance at certain Target locations. That should make a lot of bloggers' weekends a lot happier. I'll be missing out on the party. I'm flat broke this weekend, and the mortage payment is due, so I won't be performing any budget magic in order to free up a few dollars. To top it off, it's a very busy weekend at work (Super Bowl and all, you know), so I probably won't even get near a Target until next week. So, I'll just have to live vicariously through y'all. You better come through! I want to see EVERY card in the pack. Don't even skip over the Washington Nationals. Because even when I do get to a Target, who knows if they'll even have the cards. The card-mobile will probably get stuck in one of our six-foot snow drifts on the way to the store. All of this means I'm looking for ways to keep myself entertained. Fortunately dayf came through with a post yesterday on American Herit...
