I think I'm the beneficiary of a purge

I received an email a little while ago from Scott of Sports Cards Ate My Brain . He said he had a bunch of 2015 Stadium Club off my wants that he was going to send. "Cool," I said. I like that set a lot. It's about time I got close to finishing it. Scott didn't lie. He did have a lot of Stadium Club off my wants. Here they are: Still very cool. But, wait, that's not all of it. OK, there we go. Thanks to that, I'm less than 10 cards away from the complete set. Time to stop buying SC packs for the one card I need and get the rest online. But Scott didn't stop with the Stadium Club. He also sent a bunch of 2015 Series 2 needs: And a bunch of 2015 Update needs: This is how I was able to complete the Series 2 set at the card show the other day, and how I was able to come within one of completing the Update set. But that wasn't even half of what Scott sent. In a totally unexpected development, I saw oodles of other want...

Hungry for a repack

I did a little slacking on the diet over the last few months, and while that's pretty average behavior for most people and results in just another New Year's resolution, it's a little more critical to me because of advancing age and health concerns. So I'm back in health-nut mode, and, god, am I hungry. I've gotten to the point where the hunger doesn't bother me; I'll survive. But I need to transfer that lack of food accumulation into some other kind of accumulation. In this case, it's cards. In the last few weeks of returning to the wagon, it's become clear as one of those plastic containers carrying meatballs (I'm not thinking of food, really), that I haven't purchased a repack in ages. This would have to be fixed. The problem is that the Fairfield repacks that I like to buy -- those hanging rack packs for 5 bucks -- haven't been available anywhere around here for months. The repack choices are so undesirable that I haven...

Time

Yesterday demonstrated perhaps the most concrete example of how little time I have to blog. If you were paying attention, for about three hours last night, I featured, for the first time, an incomplete post on Night Owl Cards. The post ended with about only 40 percent of it complete. Thank goodness it didn't end in mid-sentence, but if you were reading to the end, you probably knew something wasn't right. I had actually finished writing the entire post. But in the process of writing, my daughter signed me out of Blogger in order to do a school assignment and didn't alert me. While trying to edit and save the story, eat dinner, and get it all done before I returned to work, I didn't notice that the version I published was only the part that was written before I was logged out. And, so, because I was at work and way too busy to check the blog, a half-written post appeared and remained there until I could remove it. That looked bad because I was attempting to than...

Think I'm being tested

I went back out yesterday and got that light bulb. And I stopped by the card aisle and grabbed what I thought were more sensible purchases for my 2015 set-collecting needs. So I bought the bulb, a hanger box of Series 2, a hanger of Stadium Club and one pack of Update. And when I got through opening them, I had the distinct feeling that my card knowledge was being tested. First the highlights of the Stadium Club pack. Nothing really notable, just the presentation of every base card as an EVENT, which I will always applaud. (Sorry, Edwin, I was rooting for the Royals). The pack helped me cross a few more cards off the want list. I think this set will disappear off store shelves before I come close to completing it because it's so darn pricey. I'll have to reapply myself and hunt for cards online. Next, the Update pack. It was just as useful, presenting me with one more Dodger who probably won't be with the team next year. And just so the card gods can...
