Night Owl Cards

This post features the last of the cards that I received from Too Many Verlanders . I hate to drag it out through three posts, but there were so many distinct cards. And I want to address one of the many collecting conflicts that I go through. As you know, Dennis was offering a bunch of team sets for basically nothing. He just wanted to get them out of his house. I gladly accepted the Buffalo Bills so I could actually have some cards of my favorite team. Then, I grudgingly accepted the Dodgers, too. Why would I be grudging about the Dodgers? Well, this is the conflict, and I'm sure I've mentioned this before: I have a lot of Dodgers cards. And if someone offers up a big stack of Dodgers, chances are I'm going to have a lot of them already. This is why I'm usually a no-show in group breaks and contests these days. Let's do a little sick scoreboard faceoff, as that's all I have time for today: Sick scoreboard card #8: 2005 Topps Chrome Randy Winn Vs. Sick scoreboard #9: 1982 Fleer Rick Manning Pluses Chromey Winn 1. It's shiny 2. It's run-with-your-hair-on-fire action 3. It's horizontal 4. Randy's name is Winn and the Mariners appear to be winning. Get it? (At least I think that number is an "8" next to Seattle). Fleerish Manning 1. It's an '82 Fleer. Take pity on wonderful '82 Fleer 2. It's Rick Manning. I stood on a field 10 feet from Manning once 3. It's the Fenway Park scoreboard! 4. Manning is an outfielder positioned in the infield! 5. When I first saw this Score disc card (I'm not sure which year it is -- 1991 or 1992 it looks like), I had an instant flashback to the round cards that were sold with whiffle ball bats during the 1970s. Does anyone remember those? They were white and yellow and had a player's black-and-white head shot in the middle. My brother and I had a couple of those cards. Anyway, this card and a whole mess of other Dodgers came from reader Randall. He contacted me a couple of weeks ago and said he was a Dodger fan and had a bunch of extra cards he thought I'd like. It turns out that Randall is almost down the road from me. Just a few hours away. I love seeing Dodger fans on the east coast! I received the package on Monday, so it's about time I reveal the contents. Lots of good stuff in here from a very generous collector.
