I must be in the front row

Once, I used to get envious of collectors and their card shows, one popping up every month or sometimes nearly every week. "Oh, ho, hum, it's time to go to another card show." I guess I'm still a tiny bit envious, but I channel it a little better because I know that when certain collectors have so many card shows to go to, sometimes that means more cards for me! This happens time-and-again with bloggers situated in card show heaven. Folks like Dime Box Nick and Commish Bob. And there's another one who keeps blessing me with card show goodies -- Johnny from Johnny's Trading Spot . He plopped several stacks of cards on me recently and then sent a PWE, too, and then, today, another PWE showed up. Hokey smokes, Bullwinkle. I've finally sifted through the cards, what I need and what I don't and have some needed items for you to see now. Johnny even completed a set for me, but I'll get to that in a minute. Right now I want to get to thi...

Weird times to be a Dodgers fan

So far, Major League Baseball has gotten rid of the last two managers to defeat the Dodgers in the World Series. We're waiting for the other shoe to fall on the alleged sign-stealing mastermind, the guy who pointed out that Yu Darvish was tipping his pitches in Game 7 of the 2017 World Series, Carlos Beltran. As a Dodger fan, I can say one thing about the demise of A.J. Hinch, Alex Cora and, hopefully, Carlos Beltran: Good. But my reaction and opinion on the issue is quite a bit more complex than that. These are weird times to be a Dodger fan. I'm seeing all different kinds of reactions from L.A. fans over this. Honestly, we don't know how to react to the news that the teams that beat us in the World Series were a bit corrupt. Some are demanding reparations, you know, that goofy NCAA thing where they take wins and titles away and pretend they never happened. The NCAA deals a lot in fantasy and wishes but that doesn't fly in the real world and you can't ...

Partial sets and more 1975-related over analysis

I showed this 2019 Archives Aaron Judge card during the recent end-of-the-year spectacular to note that I had completed the 1975-themed portion of the Archives set. I consider these Archives "partial sets" as sets unto themselves and I'm spending the next couple of days dedicating a small binder to them. I'm also reserving a binder for another small set. I received two of the final three cards that I need for that set from Jeffrey of Cardboard Catastrophes . Just need the Christian Yelich from wonderfully over-the-top 2019 Holiday to complete it. Anyone have it? But anyway, back to the Archives partial sets. Three years ago, I completed my first Archives partial set when I collected all of the 1979-themed cards from 2016 Archives. I am going to place those in a binder in which they'll share space with the 1975-themed Archives cards. I gathered the cards together for paging and I noticed one interesting thing right away: My first ...
